Fuckin’ Ricky. Soooo miss him. His passion, his soul….. everything he put into his music. He lives on in my memory. The best of the best….. RIP Rick. Your contribution to music is priceless,…..
Somehow I ended up here not being able to sleep and surfing the Internet RUclips years ago,Rick Danko changed my life and here I am now realizing that tomorrow is the anniversary of his death. He certainly was given the biscuit by Robbie Robinson. Very unfair that he got cut out of all the royalties that would’ve probably saved his life from dying so young. A fellow named Neil Mercer Turned me onto the band in 1971 at Tinker Air Force Base Oklahoma.
I love The Band possible Rick is my favorite. However, to be fair he did not get cut out of royalties, he agreed to sell them. In the early seventies they all made $400.000, Rick himself said in an interview "Did you ever make a million $ fast? It can ruin your life. You can't blame someone else for their addiction.
I have feeling that if he'd not been hobbled by his addictions that he could have had a better. life towards the end. He might even be alive today. It's really sad.
Great choice of upload Jacqui ... you have exquisite taste girl .... I love to come and have a squizz at your channel every now and then.... Oh and I've sat down with Richie havens myself .... but it was a case of who talked the most shit cos the "nepalese temple ball" was much more potent than either of us imagined it might be ......all the best Kev
I think Danko and the others really struggled emotionally after Robertson left The Band, though they continued it was never the same. Though I don't have anything that negative to say about Robbie Robertson I do think he did his band members the dirty, making sure that he benefited far far more than the others. He may have been the song writer, but apparently Garth Hudson did a lot of the musical arranging. The Band is not The Band without equally acknowledging Richard, Garth,Levon and sweet Rick - in his hunt for glory and fame I think Robbie lost sight of this, or never had it in him to be egalitarian in the first place. He did the rest of the guys dirty IMO...
There area different accounts of what happened. According to Barney Hopkyns biography of The Band, they all made a lot of money. Lots were used on drug etc, bad money management. According to "The Story of The Band by brothers Harvey and Kenneth Kubernik, Rick in an interview said he wanted to move on from The Band. Robbie said when the drug use and umpteen car crashes got out of control, he perhaps was a little more scared than the others, save Garth, who was not as heavy into drugs as Richard, Levon and RIck, and wanted to get out before something really bad happened. Robbie grew up with a stepfather that became very physically abusive to both Robbie and his mother when he had been drinking. When Robbie was a teenager his mother and stepfather got divorced, by then Robbie was seeking solace in music. You can't blame Robbie for the others addictions, although Robbie did drugs as well, he kept it under control, music always came first with him. They didn't take a vow "to death do us part". Rick played with Ringo, did some solostuf, and also played with Garth, Richard and Levon. Levon wrote a book, acted in several well known movies and made music, he must have made some money. Having said all that I love all The Band members, and none more than Rick Danko.❤❤
Such a soulful voice! Irreplaceable! !!
A voice that takes you other places. He and Richard had more emotion in their voices than any 10 superstars.
Amen to that I agree 100%

The Band members so great and so sad. It's like losing friends.

NICE
Even though Tim Drummond wrote this one, Rick's version is my favorite.

Hi torkgirl
Hi. :)
How are you doing
Just don't spill it...
Is your name Piper Reynolds?
I saw the reunited band no Robbie in summer 83 in hamilton then in spring 84 in Florida
I'm going to lose my membership in the "I totally love Rick Danko club" if I say this, but here goes--I don't really like this song all that much.
What's the cause of you not liking?
Just doesn't do it for me. He's done a lot of stuff I really love, especially with the band, I just don't like this one
@FightsatJim’splace Funny!
It is possible to be a fan of someone and not like everything they do.@@martykate6836
I'm a huge fan of The Band and of Rick, does not mean I like everything they did, or he did.
is that Blondie Chaplin playing with Rick at 1.45?
It is.
