No, taking the mats away and the top rope thing was smart. The mats was to stop the dozen times during every match going outside the ring for the stupid guardrail spots, and the top rope thing was to give heels another way to cheat, so that when the face finally had enough and did a top rope move, it meant something.

I think it's more that Bill Watts has been a boss for so long he can't be a subordinate. Even though he was the head of WCW, he still had to answer to people over him in Turner. I've seen that in other walks of life myself.
I get so sick of hearing Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff and Kevin Nash and Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, etc. go on and on and on about the death of WCW. Bill Watts pretty much confirms what Jim Cornette has said all along: which is that the end of WCW was in the making before the ink was even dry on the contracts signed between the Crocketts and Turner. The one thing that made Bill Watts' tenure in WCW fail was just because the stupid rules that he made, for example the "10 Commandments" remember that? where one of them is, if you're injured or your car broke down, thats a breach of contract, the top rope rule which was one of the dumbest rules implemented, etc. He just didn't understand that it was television not house shows.
Ive never heard 1 wrestler or talent that worked for watts say anything good about him and they all say he was a bully and even physically abuse the wrestlers and even tell them to get on all fours so he could show them how to takeca working kick to the gut and instead kick them for real in the ribs on purpose.
I can name plenty of wrestlers who loved working for the guy. Hell, there's a bunch of shoots on RUclips from various wrestlers that pretty much tell you that even though he was a dick, they were better off because of him.
Im surprised you cut off the part where he talks of the frustrations of not having TBS actually help promote the wrestling product. I believe he had mentioned how there would be big time names at Braves games and not one camera would be on them at any point during the game.
*The worshipping of Watts is as absurd as it is vomit-inducing. Watts is the typical failed wrestling promoter- nothing was his fault and then reason he failed dismally post-UWF was because he was handcuffed. In reality, everything he did post-UWF failed and the reason for it was because he was cluelessly out-of-touch and thought he knew everything resulting in a ludicrous stubbornness.*

Good to know Bill Watts is still with us.
Yes 💯 %
Not really he is a punk ass racist
85 years old. I guess steaks and pot is the secret to his longevity.
He's still alive but this interview is over 20 years old
Thank you Mr. Watts for making the best wrestling show (Mid-South) in the history of wrestling for a 7 year old kid.
I really like listening to straight-shooters like Mr. Watts.
Could watch Bill all day

Bill is describing NBA contracts of today. But, taken mats out , and top rope rule was kind of stupid.

The Bill Watts interviews are good.
When great wrestlers, great promoters, and great minds are mentioned, Bill Watts in my opinion, has to be at the top of the least.
I prefer straight talkers
