Completely sums up the town and it's downwards spiral. I went away for a decade then moved back and I just feel dispair when I look around. Idiots on mopeds, scooters and boy racers in cars screaming up the street. Police chases, stolen cars dumped round the back alley of my house. Next door got broken into a couple of weeks ago. It's awful, not to mention the shops shutting down only to open as ANOTHER takeaway! We need to get off the back bench that Rochdale Council has put is on. We need to have our own council again like in the old days.
100% agree. It's honestly just sad. I worked on this project with Ben, we both went out recording and to this day my heart goes out to Heywood. My hometown is Rochdale and it's even more upsetting knowing Rochdale Council can't provide any help towards Heywood. The council don't even care anymore, as Rochdale is now becoming the same dump.
Such a shame what happened to this little town. I grew up here and man the signs started to show back then around the worse off areas like Darnhill and Heady Hill. This was about 10 years ago. I go there now and even the mood is so sad. All I see is 15, 16, and 17 year olds etc on mopeds and electric scooters and it’s so sad to me because this in my heart will always be my hometown. Pubs that used to be thriving when I lived there are closed down now like The Crown Inn and the one at the bottom of pilsworth road. Not just that, everywhere has been replaced by takeaways or they’ve gone to an even worse fate. I really hope Rochdale council can spare a slight bit of money for Heywood to thrive again. It’s acc a huge shame just chavy teenagers and crackheads are there now
I remember as a kid my mum telling me that Heywood was a husk of what it once was. That was almost 50 years ago, and my kids could say the same to my grandchildren and it would still hold true.
Used to live in Heywood in the 90's and it was fucking rough then. Does anyone remember the austrian/german woman that used to work at thompsons chippy? ... she was always really nice to me as a kid
Ben your photography is outstanding. Most of my original footage is done from Heywood, my home town. Although many of the objects of my desire and lens focus are purportedly millions of miles away 👆☄️🌠🌈☀️🌔 I have the perfect location (Between the StarKey and Portal Bridge) Much Love and Many Blessings
What used to be Harwoods stationary and card shop with always the best Christmas window display in town is a Bargain Booze shit hole. Yeah, Heywood needs its own council back. We need our own independence referendum. A brexit for Heywood.
