nirvana in fire is one of the most highly acclaimed, legendary chinese dramas, so imagine my surprise seeing it in a manga haul lol. it’s a very dense story for sure, and initially confusing even for those familiar with chinese names and the palace setting. i’m honestly very interested to see how it does in this kind of comic format and in the manga reading community. this is just to clear some confusion for anyone who cares because it’s definitely needed. lin shu grew up in the royal army was poisoned years ago in a battle where he and his father were framed as traitors. he is now returning to the palace as mei changsu, the chief the jiangzuo alliance. basically he’s now known as a brilliant mastermind and on the surface he comes to assist in the fight between the crown prince and prince yu for the throne, but his actual goal is to support prince jing, who was his childhood best friend. the reason nobody recognizes him is because he has a new appearance as a result of the poison. he is intentionally hiding his identity because he doesn’t want it to get in the way of anything, and he is still considered a traitor. the story follows his schemes, revealing truths about the past and exploring character relationships. it’s truly one of the best dramas i’ve ever watched, but at the same time i hesitate to recommend it because of how complicated and demanding it can be. the first time i watched it i dropped it after a few episodes. obviously i came back to it and now i constantly rewatch it because it’s truly THAT good. i don’t know if cdramas are up your alley, but just putting it out there lol. i’ll be happy to answer any questions, i know firsthand how confusing the story can be when you’e just suddenly thrust into it haha
omg thanks so much for the detailed explanation and clearing up the general story and plot! 😊 looks like i got a few things twisted on how i understood the vol 1 manhua. you've made it make sense for me haha. the whole beginning where they show the battle is super brief in the first vol and doesn't touch upon much and definitely no mention about a poison or anything about a new appearance (that i can recall). although idk if a new appearance is just implied maybe by how he's drawn? although the difference in appearance was like a change of clothes (armor vs not) to me so i didn't think deeply into it. i did pick up on the tension for the throne but i don't even think i realized he was seen as a traitor since everyone was so amicable and welcoming to him. not sure if these are all things i missed in the manhua and will be revealed/made clearer later. ohh i'm not opposed to watching cdramas! i haven't watched any but the reason why i was curious about reading Nirvana in Fire was bc i had heard great things about the cdrama :) i'll def have to come back if i think of any other details that confused me XD
@@cadence_la npnp i’m always happy to talk about this series! everyone’s treating him amicably since his current identity is as a chief/master of the pugilist word, kinda hard to describe but it’s basically a very respectable position, he was brought into the palace for his intellect. only a few of his subordinates know his true identity but ofc eventually more people find out. i haven’t read the manhua nor the original novel so idk if things are structured differently between the different formats 😅
I'm glad you decided to give Akasaka a chance because it's a genuinely nice series that takes full advantage of its premise in later vols. Also it gave us a biblically accurate love triangle, which amused me despite not liking the love triangle subplots generally.
yess ok i'm glad i decided to give it a try and i'm really looking forward to the drama that may result of the industry they're in. like as much as i enjoy romance stories, i love it even more when the conflict involves something outside of "do they like me, do they not like me" etc. or at least contributes to that issue. love triangles can be rough for me bc sometimes i tend to like the other person more hahah. idk if that happens to you. the second lead syndrome 😅 but ofc if it's done well, i don't mind at all
