Is This A Better Way To Remove Snow Stones From Your Yard? Trying Sweepster Broom To Remove Rocks
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 апр 2021
- I try to remove all the rocks in my yard with an old Sweepster Broom attached to my John Deere 318 garden tractor. I thought this would be an easier way to get the stones out of my grass but the day was faced with many challenges that left me questioning my decision to get the old Sweepster out of the barn. I also use my Stihl Power Broom attachment to help with getting stones out of the grass left behind by the county snow plow.
I’m still trying to figure out how you went from camera to drone in the opening act.
It took a few tries to get that right Jeremy!
@@digdrivediy your camera work, set up, and placement is top notch. Small channels like us really appreciate your creativity and effort. Great stuff buddy.
Thanks! You've got a great channel and I can tell you put in a lot of work yourself. Thanks for turning in!
@@CairnCreek I will go check out your channel, but Neil is the best I've seen. I can't make myself spend that much time on the camera work. Over the weekend I was making a video and was like, "crap, I was going to do that thing Neil Koch does." I finish a project and realize I forgot to even bring the camera!
9ooo[ooooo[[9
I watch until the end for the bloopers Neil! Another great video.
Jeepers that transition from gimbal to drone and back was tight!
Mr. Wes! Hey, thanks so much. That took a few tries but was fun to create. I really enjoy your channel so I'm really tickled to see your name pop up here. Thanks for stopping by!
I still love that backow attetsment for the forks.
look forward to what you will do with the frond brush .
thanks for the video Neil
Thanks Hollandduck! Be interesting to figure out what to do with it.
My one Garden Tractor had that same issue. It's the one I use to mow lawn so everytime I got into tall thick grass it would kill the engine. I broke down an rebuilt it over the winter and now it's like a new tractor. I'm happy you won't need to deal with that crap anymore now that you have Burno!!!!
Yep, I always watch all the way to the end! Great video Neil. I used to rake all the stone from my frontage each spring but now I just wait until a nice rain, get out the lawn roller and press them into the ground. I've found that to be the simplest, easiest way to take care of the stone from the County chip & seal on my 300 yards of frontage. Happy Easter to you and your family!
I appreciate it so much Rick. I have used the roller trick on certain years too! Always works great to roll in the extras too even when I use the broom. Happy Easter to you and yours as well!
Excellent video Neil. You certainly have the gift for making quality productions. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much. I'm still learning at it. I just want to make stuff that people enjoy watching. Appreciate you watching!
I always watch to the end because my favorite part is the editing and camera work. I finish a project and think, "Dang - I forgot to record it!" I was trying to channel my inner Neil Koch over the weekend and do a better job on the filming. Keep up the good work, we appreciate it!
I appreciate it so much KOL. I'll need to see this video now that was inspired by DDD! Thanks for watching.
I really loved the transition in the top of your barn. That was awesome! Keep up the great work.
Thanks a lot Clay. That one was fun to do!
I don't love it. Please whip up an elevator for your barn. That was half the video just to get the damn broom down.
Just recently found your channel, thanks to Bruno, and I think you could revisit this experiment, but it would be cool if you made some drums, like on your sweeper thing with the flappy-beater bars, for your sweeper attachment. Those bristles are great for hard surfaces, but like you said, it's easy to tear up the lawn with them. Keep up the great work with the videos, being a great Dad, helping your community, and just being an all-around good guy. God bless you & yours.
Neil you are a man who knows to do stuff. My husband sits on the couch.
Maybe he needs a tractor? 😉
I have a winter project idea for you. Adapt the sweepster to fit on the quick-tatch of your 755 loader. I bet you would use it MUCH more.
I am glad you demonstrated the big sweepster. Would be a good series to see Bill get full maintenance and repair/rebuild (paint?) as needed. It is possible the air cleaner, carb, fuel delivery, throttle is half your problem. For small jobs the hand broom may be best, but to do your yard, the neighbors and the church you need more power. If some fixed casters can be welded to the sweeper then you have another vid to share.
I hope to have some more videos on Bill very soon. Thanks for watching!
Nooooo, don't paint Bill!! The patina gives him character. Fix everything else but no paint!
Adjustable caster wheels on the sweepster would help. The Stihl power broom is very effective, but is a workout !
You are certainly right on all points there John!
Drop a bigger motor in bill more power arrrh arrrh
Agreed. Some big casters would work amazing. I built some for my old bosses. His was hooked to a skid steer.
Guage wheels on the broom and a V-twin OHV re-power for Bill! That would be an awesome video!
I'm with ya Jimmy! I'd love to do an engine project for Bill.
I just watched another video about installing a genuine Deere broom with a quick hitch and as far as I can tell, he worked just as hard installing that one. I guess with most of these attachments, you're simply trading one form of work for another. I love working with these tractors. Except for installing attachments. I guess that's why so many of us have multiple machines.
Good enough reason for me 😂
Neil... I never miss a minute. You have some of the best shot and produced videos on this platform!
Poor Bill! Looks like it’s time to put him out to pasture! (Here in the Ozarks that means park him under an old oak in the back yard, with a tarp over him. Once the tarp rots, remove all the downed tree limbs and toss him on your neighbors scrap trailer while saying, “So long old friend.”)
Now about those brooms. The county paved my road and don’t see fit to plow it, when it snows. So, I traded my combi-broom for a power scythe attachment. But, that’s a story for another day.
Back to brooms... years ago, all of our brooms were made of corn. Then came the O Cedar, Big Angler. It was a game changer. The poly fiber bristles were straight across the bottom. They were cut at a convenient angle and had stiffer bristles at the flared end.
It totally changed the way I swept. Instead of just poking the brittle corn bristles into a corner and digging out the dirt... I could deftly pull the stiff end along one wall... swivel the head and neatly sweep it clean in just one stroke. It was pure clean-up bliss.
Over the years, it became second nature and my corn brooms have all disappeared. I didn’t really think about it much until a few years ago when my grandson came over to help sweep out the garage.
As I pulled out the trash bin to wheel it to the curb, I told the six year old to grab the broom and clean out its corner. When I returned, he was still working on it.
I watched as he kept jabbing it at the dust that had accumulated in the corner. For him, the struggle was real. He looked up and said, “PawPaw, this broom doesn’t work.”
So, we had a little lesson in how to use an O Cedar Big Angler. First of all, you turn it around so that the long bristles are in the corner.... Second....
Neil, seeing the lights go on and the immediate victory he achieved was pure joy for me. It was far and away more satisfying than the spic&span floor I got out of it.
So yeah, having a power broom that you can operate from atop old Bill is cool... On the other hand, sometimes the satisfaction of brooming by hand can be irreplaceable! Especially when that hand is pint sized!
If my daughter approves it, I’ll be able to post a video with my grandsons this week.
Have a blessed and enjoyable Easter.
Thanks so much. I hadn't thought about broom evolution until now. So very true how much better a new broom works over those old corn bristle brooms. I still have one of those little corn bristled hand brooms riding around in the backhoe somewhere. I put it in there to keep the floor swept out but mainly it just adds to the clutter riding around on the floor!
Such a great feeling when you can explain something like that to a little one and watch them light up when they "get it". It's like seeing a new machine come online after years of prep and planning. Now that I think about, the act of sweeping a floor is an acquired skill that is better taught than learned as most kids seem to do it all wrong until shown otherwise. Your grandkids are lucky to have paw paw as their teacher.
Looking forward to that grandson video pending the mama approval.
Thanks for always watching until the end. I'm always curious who is hanging out to catch some bloopers if I put them in. I've had people tell me they like seeing the screwups so I'll keep doing it as long as I have bloopers to put in there. Really no risk of ever losing material for that I don't think.
@@digdrivediy LOL... it’s those tiny things that make grand-parenting so rewarding! I got the approval. It will post in the morning.... kid friendly... comments are turned off.
This was always a pain in the rear when our driveway was limestone. It wasn't very long, but never was enjoyable. If we had one of those paddle brooms for our trimmer, it'd have cut the time down in my view. Looks like you did a good dethatching job on the grass though. It's a good thing they now come with wheels to avoid killing the grass.
Very true Robert. I think the more modern version of these sweepsters are a better working setup. I need to modify mine. I used to rake that entire road front before I had my power broom. It was a chore!!!
Man John Deere has certainly improved how quick an easy it is to take the decks off & mount front implements. My x758 was a breeze.
You've got that right! These old ones are kind of a pain by today's standards. Plus I edited out half the connecting process! I've never even sat on an x model. I bet they're super nice. Thanks for watching!
Your production is excellent as always.
Thanks Mark! Means a lot to me.
You have a very nice looking place. It does take some hard work to keep neat and tidy but well worth it
Appreciate it Bob! My wife works harder at it than I do even.
Good video! I was stuck with the old fashioned rake. Never saw a power broom before. Now that's handy
Thanks so much! The power broom is terrific for this kinda stuff.
Poor Bill, hes tired but gotta love those 318s.
For sure. Gonna breathe some new life in soon.
Fantastic video as always! You have an amazing setup at your house! I’m jealous I wish I had room for a big shop at my house. That sweeper worked great on those rocks. Look forward to the next one
Thanks Brandon. Having the shop has certainly been a blessing and I don't know what I would do without it. Thanks for watching sir.
Always cool content, like the intros of grabbing supplies needed. Always find interesting how u start your jobs off. 👍👍
Thanks so much!
Install the power broom upside down and use it while pulling toward yourself. That way it works under its own weight and takes almost all the hard work out of it! 👍
I've used it upside down quite a bit too Jamie. Works in some cases and I usually mix it up a bit. But, it does throw all the stones at your legs and feet and for me it doesn't always work quite as well. Nice to have options though. Thanks for the suggestion and appreciate you watching!
Thanks Neil! Found you on TTWT episode. Bill seems like he could use a new short block or bore, valve & rebuild job, would last a long time.
Appreciate it John. Thanks for coming over to check it out. I may go with a rebuild. Not sure what to do yet.
I know the feeling, Brother! I am in the process of rebuilding an old TurfBlazer 727 and see if it will have the power to run a sweepster. Good Luck and Blessings to You!
Thanks so much Ron. Good luck with your project too!
Its funny, watching him trying to hook the forks up to the tractor and I immediately thought of the Austin Powers scene, and then its part of the video! I definitely had a good laugh.
Haha! I'm glad someone else thinks the way I do! 😃
I have two friends that have the brooms on different sized Kubota small tractors. They have all the customers they can handle with them. We use them, because the environment is too cold in the winter to use just salt. The city uses sand, with just enough salt to keep the sand flowing, (salt absorbs the moisture down to -17°C, sand has to be conditioned, before temps get that low, also this is all prepared in the fall, you wont be able to prepare the sand in the dead of winter).😁
Best wishes from the far North.
Great to hear from you Carl! That sounds like quite the challenge! Yeah, I could stay busy with this broom. I used to travel around with it quite often when I used it more frequently a decade ago. I was happy to let people forget I had it but I just realized this video may be a reminder now 😬
I love the videos Neil, I always stay till the end for your BTS footage.
Nice footage at the end. I’ve done that a few times with my drone as well. Great content as always Neil!
Thanks so much Chris!
So jealous of the broom!!!!
I know the difficulty with the 318, afterall I have a 89' 318 but she's reliable, hardworking machine.
Just bought a 44 loader for mine at repowered at 25hp.
I too have the Kombi setup, works good but very tiring
I agree on that Kombi. I was in my mid 30's the last time I used that Sweepster broom. For the last 10 years I've been fine running the Kombi. This year my back said to try the Sweepster again, but the 318 just didn't agree. Maybe we'll all be on the same page for next year if I can get a heart transplant scheduled for Bill! That's awesome to hear you picked up a 44 loader. The little tractors can still do a lot of work for sure!
Amen , I use the stihl yard boss with sweep attachment for 140 foot driveway works great,
Great tools! Thanks Jozo!
Love those old JD garden tractors. I got a 322 w/ a liquid cooled gas powered yanmar engine (all original) . They are work horses, but that's a big broom for that tractor 🤣 great video as always! Really cool how you did the camera in the beginning!
Thanks Christopher! I've had at least one 322 before. Very nice tractors. Sometimes wish I had kept it.
I always watch till the very end. I like the topics you choose to video. Your channel is more in tune with what I have done in past and present. I have considered in the past to own a sweepster (older stuff like yours), I think after this video I probably will not ever get one. The old fashion method of a rake and muscle is what I use, it is very tiring. As I watched I thought you put a lot of effort just to hook it up. After all was done, I wondered was the sweepster option better? The power rake you used, seemed to be the a very good method (I will consider one of those in the future). Thank you for the posting!
Thanks Richard! I agree that this older version is by no means perfect. Newer version on newer tractor probably works easier. The broom works pretty good if you have patience. It it really all depends on how much you have to get done. Thanks for the kind words and for the comments.
The plow guy must have been doing 60 mph when he came by your house as far as the gravel was thrown up into your yard. Lol. I agree with you, I believe it's time to rebuild the old 318. I like the 318 set up though. My friend has one of those and it has 100 different uses. Great vid, stay safe.
Thanks Blackdog! Yeah, he was buzzing past pretty quick. I thought having the road chip and sealed would solve our problem of stones in the yard, but just as bad as ever. I think I'll try for a new power plant for Bill this coming year.
You have the right idea just need better equipment. Get a broom for the 3pth on the 755 and you'll be happy. I did the power broom trick and would spend hours over a couple of days removing rock and gravel which would lead to removing the thatch. It was killing my old back injury. So I bought a 3pth 6' Sweepster and put poly brushes on it. I also changed the gear box to a 2:1 to slow the broom down. Now I spend minutes doing the rock and can dethatch the entire lawn in an hour or less. It is a small learning curve but the results are soooo much better for the lawn and my back. The brooms are reversible by flipping the gear box over if you want to do a pull behind setup. Great video on a real problem for folks!
Great thoughts and advice there Stephen. Been dealing with subpar equipment all my life it seems. I've been trying to transition more attachments to the 755s just because the seem easier to connect and just a better tractor platform if you can accommodate the larger size. I really prefer the foot pedal hydro setup. I'm with you on the killing of the back. I have gotten along fine with the hand power broom for a long time but now in my mid 40's I'm starting to take longer to recover from it. Plus, it's really just an opportunity to acquire new toys!
My tractor broom has gauge wheels on it and it does a very good job of taming lawn stones!! It also has springs on it to help transfer some of the weight of the broom onto the tractor. If I did not mow the other side of the road I might sweep loose stone to the other side in the fall.
I think I''m gonna look into some gauge wheels if I decide to try this broom ever again. Maybe I should just get rid of all the loose stones on the road! I mow the other side too but I can quit :)
Your property is gorgeous!
Thanks!
Defective seat switch just like mine.. My 318 has dual hyd outlets and they are in the way when mounting. Kind of like stuffing 5 lbs of "S....T" in a four lb bucket. I made a couple of adjustable storage stands out of ready rod and that allows me to change up and down angles while installing. My Sweepster is a C-48. An oldie. I do not have an angle feature. Permanently angled to the right and it uses a one way cylinder. Gravity drop. I don't run out of power but because it has all new bristles it gouges in unevan and soft ground. My ditch banks are steeper than yours and that gets interesting when the ground is wet. The new ones have adjustable skids and that keeps the sweeper from gouging. The guy that plows my road travels at high speeds and the gravel migrates as far as 25 feet from the shoulder's edge. The fun part is when an old lady driving by calls the cops because a little gravel is flicked up on the blacktop. Have a good one. Arnie
My seat switch is non-functional already so that wasn't it. It was just running out of power unfortunately. I love the storage stand idea! That's great thinking! Sounds like you have it worse than me Arnie! I appreciate you watching and for the great comment!
The bloopers at the end are awesome!!
I love my power broom. Mines a Shindaiwa. I bet a pull behind lawn sweeper would also work to pick up those stones.
The power broom is just awesome for this. Wish I could make that sweepster work just as well and save my back. I've tried the pull sweeper back in the day and they work a little bit. They are quick to get too heavy if I remember right.
Great video and editing, so nice to find new (to me) great channels! Subscribed and got inspired!
Thanks so much Nils! I really love reading comments like this. I'm glad you found the video entertaining and I hearing that it was inspiring is one of the best things to read. Good luck and thanks for the watch and sub.
Sweet set up, yard, tractors etc...
Thanks! We like it even though it's like a job to keep it up.
Great video again, and yeah I always watch till the end
I really appreciate it Ed. Glad to have you watching!
Bummer Neil, You got a lot more patience than me any way good video.
Thanks Ron!
“This things a turd” hahaha don’t know why that was so funny but it was! Thanks for the video. Maybe a motor swap tutorial?!
Ha! I've never used this tractor for any heavy work other than spreading and rolling so was surprised it had so much trouble. I like the motor swap idea. I still need this tractor around.
I would get a Sweeper Wheels Kit for that power broom! Makes it a lot easier!
Two things they need to do in the winter. One freeze in the road by mixing the snow and gravel during the first snow. Second no smooth blade should ever touch a gravel road in the winter
I agree.
Great content! Love this channel!
With only a $100 in ole Bill it might be worth checking local classifieds or auctions for a repower. I like the forklift set up for the rear bucket on the backhoe. Could you show more details on that sometime? Your place looks great. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Lucas! I'm shopping for some possible repower options. Not sure what path to take just yet. I hate to just give up on him cause the hydro and everything else works pretty good still.
Oh, and I made a video when I built the backhoe forklift. I also feature it in another video where I mounted a high rise deer blind. The build video is here: ruclips.net/video/HaoMw5Dt0c4/видео.html
Nice drum set, dude!
Rock on!
You have a lot of area, I use a shop vac! Rebuild Bill, he deserves it!
I think he may get a transplant. Thanks for watching!
There is probably a shoulder strap somewhere in the barn that came with that Stihl motor. That would take some strain off the arms.
It's probably at the original owners house as I got it second hand. That would be pretty helpful though. I may look into that idea!
lol on Austin Powers meme. That old JD 318 is cool. I now see where Steiner and Ventrac got the ideas for the front PTO and easy on/off attachments.
Haha! Hoping a few people liked that! Thanks!
yup adjustable caster wheel height kit/mod and you're good ta go although i wonder whether the flapper paddles do a better job vs the weedwhip strings er bristles
I might just look into those wheels someday if I ever need this thing again. I definitely prefer the flapper over the bristles.
i think its time to but old bill out to pasture...great videos...thanks for sharing
Getting really close. He's gonna need some attention before I do much more with him. He can still pull the fertilizer spreader so I haven't kicked him out just yet.
This is about the 10th time I've watched this video lol today I'm watching it with my little boy because he saw me watching today's upload and requested more "digger" videos lol you know it would be really neat if you could rig that broom up to run off the 755. However now that you have Bruno I'd say you probably don't have to worry about that
Love it!
Fab a axle on back like your scraper box with casters running forward with a cylinder in center in center and hook to the 2 ports not in use on front then you can adjust for any depth from seat. Just a thought
I like where your head is at. I've been thinking about a possible solution and you and I have similar thoughts. Thanks for watching!
Yes, I always watch your videos to the end. Your videos consistently have top shelf editing and more camera perspectives than the typical youtuber.
P.S. Bill kept stalling to give you the message to add a wheel kit to the broom. I really don't see that attachment being functional without some sort of float/height wheels.
Thanks Archie. Very kind of you to say. I'd like to try a wheel kit for sure. The last time I used this broom I had it on a different tractor and it had enough power that it would just dig into the ground and ruin the grass rather than stall out. I think a perfect combo would be more power and a wheel kit!
Appreciate you watching until the end and for the great comments.
Neil I was laughing so hard seeing you trying so hard to get your 700 into position for the forks… but then that clip from the movie just made it worst… Thankyou for the laughs.
Ha! Glad you got a kick out of that clip. I thought it was fitting :)
You hook up the belt. Then hook up hydraulic lines. Finally you use the hydraulics to set the pins. Assuming that's like the one we have. Ours is almost 40years old now.
I think this one is probably 30 years old at least. Hopefully I remember your trick for next time! Thanks Robert!
This is the kinda stuff I'd love doing.. If I had a garden..
Appreciate you watching!
Ha ha the old stihl saves the day. Great video. 👍
Can always count on that Stihl as long as I'm healthy enough to run it!
Same setup as the 2 stage blower I have for my 318 need to put the belt on before you attack it all the way it is a pain
A little late on the uptake, Neil, but yes, I watched it to the end. Always do. Sometimes you guys give a sneak peak at the end with a little bonus Easter Egg.
yep.....watch 'til the very end...thumbs up too !
Thanks Jake!
You should make a set of shoes the brush for the lawn application, to keep if from going too deep. Is there any opportunity to change the gearing? i.e. a different pully
Shoes aren't a bad idea. I had thought of that and I was thinking maybe even something like an inline skate to keep it from tearing the grass. Not sure about gearing. I"d have to look I suppose. It could slow down a bit.
Well, when you get the other tractor rebuilt/done then you will have the power to run the big sweeper (after you put on some wheels to make it float better, as you said). The smaller or broom sweeper was good, but you have to hold and control it all the time which makes it more of a body issue. You have your problems in life.
Sounds like old Bill has a fuel delivery or perhaps an ignition issues. I wouldn't give up on him yet. And gauge wheels like you said might be the ticket.
I wish that were the case but I'm afraid he is also low on compression.
Yep I watch til the end. You must have picked up some of Captain Kleeman's habits on viewer abuse things kinda getting a little wild there at the end. Nice video as always Neil.
Haha! I don't even remember the ending on this one but I believe you :) Thanks for begin a "till the ender" Jeffery!
Can you convert the broom to a hydraulic motor and a quick hitch for a bigger tractor? Will it sweep leaves?
Might be able to do that but might be easier to just buy the right setup I guess. Would be a fun project though. No, it doesn't work well with leaves. They tend to just go round and round and really don't windrow very well. Plus when it gets too deep it struggles as well. Thanks for watching Tim!
Ever thought of making a bracket to mount the brush on the front loader on the bigger JD? You’d have all the power you need
That would be awesome if I could adapt a way to run the broom with the PTO of the tractor. Not a bad idea. Need to do some head scratching on that one. Thanks Douglas!
Saw your video with Tractor time with Tim... you've hit the big time now . Way to go. Do you sell merch?
Haha! Thanks a bunch Johnny! No, haven't sold any merch yet. Maybe some day if enough people are ever interested. Thanks for watching!
might be time for either a rebuild of the Onan thats in the 318, or a repower with a predator 670, still, good old tractor, and interesting video
Thanks a bunch Fox!
Makes me want to try a broom on my 2025R or X738. I already have the front pto on the 738. The Stihl is just too much work.
You're right about that! The older I get, the more work it seems to be too!
Looks like a great dethatcher
It does work well for that!
Could Bill get a transformation? sounds like a project to me. MORE POWER!!!!
Maybe. Or a respectable memorial service. Not sure which just yet. 😉
the kubota diesel engines has strong power
MRBEEF would love to hear the story about $100 Bill. Scored a near mint condition 318 with 50inch deck, blade and new tires $500. The church selling refused to take more than that. On a side note: the 318 is still John Deere's most popular garden tractor sold.
@@2naturesownplace Acquiring Bill was a good story. All too common unfortunately. The owner had a 322 for sale that my cousin wanted. I went along to help load it up as it didn't run. Sitting next to the shed that contained the 322 was a 318 all grown up in weeds. I asked about it and the owner said it quit running and he parked it there about 10+ years ago and replaced it with the 322. "Gimme a $100 bill and get it outta here" he said. Aired the tires and got 'ole Bill loaded up and when I got him home I found a commonly blown fuse. Little fresh gas and had him running the same day. I haven't washed it once since I brought it home 4 years ago!
@@digdrivediy A SBC (Small Block Chevy) should be sufficient power. Sweep the rocks across the road.
1. I know of a guy who rebuilds those Onans. He'll swap you for your old one and some $.
2. No PTO on the 316?
3. I'll give you $100 for Bill today 😁.
4. If you hook up the hydraulic lines first, can you use the cylinder to push the broom down and lock in the front pins? Works with my blade and snow blower, but not sure how that broom works. Beats manhandling it into position.
5. I just noticed you have your logo on your hat 👍. Awesome.
I'd be interested to know what he gets for the swap out Tony. I've got two if them that are tired. I've repowered a third one with a Robin engine.
That's a great idea to use the hydraulics to push it up. Haven't tried it so worth a shot.
Bill doesn't look like much but there's a bit of time in the ole boy to get him where he is today. He has a couple features that are a little hard to come by, like the rear PTO. I'd be willing to give him new life with a repower. I like having a worker around that I don't worry about waxing 😂
Dan from Cedar Springs Michigan rebuilds Onans for $1200 and your old engine. Is there a way to direct message through RUclips? I also know a local guy that can rebuild it, near Farmer, OH. He also swapped out my FIL's onan for a Kohler. He's rebuilding my YANMAR right now.
@@tonycasterline8936 That's not too bad of a price. I might be interested. Wonder what the guy in Farmer charges? You can just email me as I don't know if a way to direct message on here. nkoch1976@gmail.com
"I call it bill because it cost me a 100 dollar bill"
"This things a turd"
Honestly I think the sweepsterbroom did a better job, but it is under powered. I think next winter, maybe since the snow blower is almost done. You should but a new motor in Bob and throw some casters on that sweeper. I love your videos. And your property is beautiful!
Thanks a lot Joshua! I've got some ideas for Bill. May get a heart transplant even this summer yet. Thanks for the kind words and appreciate you watching.
You get a good thatch job as well
You can always vanguard swap these old beasts! They are great!
That's a good option!
I just wait for the spring thaw and run them in with the pickup tires lol👍👍👍
I've rolled them in before too, but there were too many this year!
@@digdrivediy I understand
As an alternative, you could just use all those stones to rapidly dull your mower blades.
Ha! You're right about that!
Weld some adjustable gauge wheels on the sides of the sweeper to keep the height consistent so it doesn't dig in and stall the motor.
Thats a nice video editing youve done!
Appreciate that ve much!
Nice camera switches and i like the new hand held gimbal rig! What do you charge to clean up my stones?
Thanks John! I usually charge all I can get 😋
I know this is 2 years old, and I have no idea if you still have the Sweepster, and if you still lack a powerful enough tractor (I think you have a more powerful one now, not sure). If you'd still have this issue, maybe it's an option to split the broom and take one half off. Sure, it'd mean more passes, but a few extra passes is less bothersome than constantly being forced to stop and restart.
I have a better tractor now 💪
@@digdrivediyBrutus!
I don't mean to patronize, I'm just talking- have you tried to tune the JD, or just drop the bowl and spray it out? I had an onan generator that had sat, it was also a dog until I got the carb cleaned out right, but usually when they run good under light load and then dog when the throttle opens thats a sign of leaning out, weather it be a partial clog or the high speed needle is set a bit too far in. That engine should have belt-snapping torque, but things have to be right when the governor asks for heavy power for the first time in a long time. Good luck! I also was thinking the same thing you were with the caster kit, as it would allow the broom to follow the ground contour independently and might really help with keeping the stones from being thrown back downhill.
I've tried to tune it up. It's just wore out unfortunately. The caster wheels would be great though!
Well that works. 👌
Oh yeah!
Always watch til the end. Nice Sweepster - that would be handy for a newer tractor, wonder if it can be adapted over to one of your diesels?
I wish it could be. I really have become partial to using the bigger tractors. Thanks for being a "till the ender" Eric!
I have a beautiful JD 330 Diesel tractor. I love it. It has a 16 horsepower Yanmar in it.
Tell me about the attachment for backhoe please!!! Home made or store bought. I could imagine that is very handy!!
Never mind I found it!
Hope that is helpful John! Thanks for watching.
Since I think the mower decks are interchangeable between the 318 and the 140's I wonder what would happen if you put it on one of those? I guess the rubber wheels prevent those from digging in to the soild too easily. What would Vernie do? LOL!
This broom would go on a 140 but it would be hard to steer as they don't have power steering is all. Be interesting to know what Vernie would do for sure!
so much for saving your back
Haha! Good point! I didn't gain much!
I watch your videos daily. I am wondering if you have ever considered selling the sweepster for the 318.
Hey thanks so much Ray!
I have thought about it but always fearful that once I sell it I will need it for something. I'll probably just keep it around for that one off chance I may need it as long as I have a tractor around that will run it. Thanks so much for supporting the channel!
Hey, came across your video through YT suggestion algorithm. I saw you were having the back pains, and suggest the Darwin Grip.
Never heard of it but I'll look into it.
When i fist read the Title i thought Snow stones hey. We call that Hail, then i watched and feel stupid lol
Ha! No reason to feel bad. I called them that but probably isn't a normal word. Thanks for watching!
Get rid of the backache with the power broom and buy the wheel assembly for the power broom
The older I get the more wheels I seem to buy! 😂
Reason #317 to live South of the snow zones...lol.
Beautiful farm!
I hear ya Jarrett! My heart goes further south each winter!
