This cd is regularly played in my home from Thanksgiving night to just before New Years. If a heavy snow is falling I turn off the table and pole lamps, so only the tree lights and candle lights are on, and the snow outside is illuminated by the streetlight lights about half a block away.
My favorite also. I saw him many, many time over 40 years and finally met him in Charlotte 2 years ago. I play this because it makes me feel sad. i want to feel that. It's makes us feel alive.
December is a masterpiece. Your signature album in my mind. Few other albums stir my soul like this one. The skill and timing are amazing and the result is a wonder that stops me in my tracks. Thank you, ty, ty George Winston. The gift you share with us has meant so much to mean, and I hope you have a warm heart knowing just an ounce of your listeners appreciation!
OMG. I could not agree more. I just listened to The Holly and the Ivy on full volume. I am overcome with emotion, as I am every time I hear it. The whole album is, as you said, a masterpiece, but this song is my favourite instrumental of all time, bar none.
Here in remembrance of one of the greatest musicians of my lifetime. Thank you for all the inspiration. Your music is remarkable, and I was lucky enough to see you live with my wife in Munhall a few years ago. I'm truly saddened by you moving on, but will cherish your music for the rest of my life. 😞😊
Been listening to this for about 32 years, and I still love it. Saw him in St Pete, FL a few years ago, and when he first started playing it brought tears to my eyes. Not just that it was beautiful, but so many years of memories associated with how long I've been listening to this particular album. I love it. Thanks George.
This is one of many holiday songs that saved my life 20 years ago when I went into deep depression after suffering many crises , hardships and a death in the family. And when I had no support from anyone,my morale fell to an all time low, to the point where I felt life wasn't worth living anymore. But when I began listening to this song, among others, I felt spiritually lifted, and things slowly began turning around for me. For that I am eternally grateful to all those who wrote and recorded such wonderful music like George Winston. Rest well sir! 🙏🎄🎶🌹🥂🥂
Merry Christmas all. A family tradition that started in our familyb4 decades ago whils t my dad was still alive. It still inspires me to focus my spirit on the bright joys of the Spirit of the saeson.
Creo que muchos lo extrañamos. Me tocó verlo en vivo una vez en la ciudad de México, hace muchos años, entrando a la sala sin zapatos, sólo en cancetines, y se sentó al piano a tocar. Descanse en paz, George!
I first bought "December" in the 1980's, on vinyl. I still own the vinyl, plus two cd's, but of course I listen to it digitally now. And I still love every note!
I went to Chastain Jr High school with George. He was an outstanding basketball player! I also enjoyed the back stage visits when he returned "home" to perform in MS... Thanks for the memories George, may your music live forever.
I have always loved this album. Holly and Ivy my favorite! I was born in December and Holly was supposed to be my name. I wish I could play even half as good as this. The snowflakes dance to this tune!
I finally realised this is what I was finding hidden in Redemption Songs when I play it on the piano. Been an amazed admire for 30 years. So much love and thanks
It’s September 3rd, 2023 & found myself down a rabbit hole tonight. The greatest Christmas carol from an incredible pianist. This will be our 1st Christmas without the great Mr. Winston. Rest well, sir. Your musical talent will live on for a long, long time. ❤️🙏🏻
This song stays treasured in my heart. It makes me think of a hungry young substitute teacher playing his heart out while kids outside his classroom are waiting for their school bus on the last day of school before Christmas vacation.
It’s January and I still can’t get enough of this classic. The transition at 2:01 is quite possibly my favorite few bars of music in any genre. I own a beautiful copy of December on vinyl. George, come back to Pittsburgh!
Saw him back in the 70's at the Concord Pavilion. He was headlining for Arthur Fiedler guest conducting The San Francisco Symphony! I was hooked then. Thank you George, Your music lives on in my home especially December!
I firt bought this album in '87. I was a young, single, professional woman who travelled a lot. On Fridays when I got to my place, I would light the fire and listen to this, and relax. I felt I was on top of the world, happy, content. Now, so much later, I have refound this wonderful album and it brings me back to this wonderful 'I am enough, capable and powerful' feeling. Thank you!!!!
This is such an emotion-filled recording for me... so inspiring and beautiful. I think it is my favourite album of George's. Masterpiece of feelings and sensitivity.
I remember visiting an apartment shared by three of my female friends and they were decorating their tree with this on the stereo. Such a wonderful memory.

He was amazing, and this is my favorite of all his songs. Saw him in concert twice.
My favorite also. I saw him many, many time over 40 years and finally met him in Charlotte 2 years ago. I play this because it makes me feel sad. i want to feel that. It's makes us feel alive.
I totally get that. This song gives a certain vibe and I love it.
R.I.P George...
altered my life
I've played this song every year for well over a decade. Merry Christmas 2024!
It's been three decades since I first heard this album, and "December" has only gotten better with time.
I agree.
3 1/2 for me. Turned my life upside down. Signed, Black Sheep of the Family

@BenjaminH134 I'm glad things got better for you. Merry Christmas!
First heard this piece 40 years ago. I still love it.
George Winston is a piano god.
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life, and played so beautifully. Thankyou for this great gift!
(the Holly and the Ivy, I was referring to).
Christmas in july, january, whenever...
Merry Christmas all. A family tradition that started in our familyb4 decades ago whils t my dad was still alive. It still inspires me to focus my spirit on the bright joys of the Spirit of the saeson.

My mom had this album and I would play it over and over in the cassette player.
I had to buy the vinyl record and copy it to tape because I kept wearing out the cassette. I went through 3 copies of the original.
Same!
RIP George Winston, and thank you so much for your beautiful music ❤❤❤

This album is just as stunning today as it was the first time I heard it over 30 years ago. Just beautiful.
Best part begins at 2:00 of a beautiful melody.
You are so right. It's just tremendous. So beautiful!
Absolutely agree
I have always loved this album. Holly and Ivy my favorite! I was born in December and Holly was supposed to be my name. I wish I could play even half as good as this. The snowflakes dance to this tune!

Not mad about piano. But listening to this part since several years, I change my mind right now.
Florent Sambugaro Piano is Outstanding. something that you will never get to comprehend. you don't know the true facts. I do though.
Absolutely gorgeous!
This is holly...!!!! Thanks master!!!

Where is the sheet music? I want to play it.
Not bad I liked it
이런 연주를 흉내라도 낼 수 있다면 여한이 없을 것 같아. ㅠ.ㅠ
한국에서 히트한 디셈버 ㅋ
