    Watching them all maneuvering while the vessel pitches and rolls made me a little home sick from my time in the Navy. The Bering Sea conditions were pretty rough and we'd literally be walking on one wall then the other, as far as 3 feet of the wall bottom and also running down hill then, straining up hill lol, it was so awesome

    OMG! My sincere admiration to not only the ENTIRE Crew... But the Scientist that lost her Husband and true love but decided to remain committed to a critical journey is utterly leaving me in awe... Just AMAZING! You ROCK! My SINCERE condolences to you and the others that lost this person!

    I would of done the same thing. Her husband passed away doing what he loved to do . I don't think he would of wanted her to come back considering where she was.
    I'm sad for her YET grateful for her. My condolences to her and her family .

      If you're in the US I can recommend the University of Alaska - I worked as a volunteer there one summer while I was doing my marine bio undergrad in the UK.
      They were well equipped, had a really good and comprehensive set of course modules, great field stations, excellent teaching staff - and if polar ecology is your thing, then you're in the right place for it

    A bittersweet journey for Ms Hall but what an awesome expedition overall! You have to give it up to all of them for their bravery and their intellect and their drive to add to the knowledge base in hopes of preserving precious sea life and ecosystems. Bravo!!!

    Everything about this was absolutely fascinating. It was heartbreaking that woman lost her husband during the expedition. The thimble-like styrofoam cups from the pressure were so cool! Such a roller coaster of a show. Marine Biologist are during some really awesome and vital work.

    Antarctica is a wild place. I was on Deep Freese 75 and spent 9 months down there on the USCG Ice Braker Burton island. Great journey.

      If you could imagine her feelings, she made a good choice. And remember she was around people who were very supportive vs. going home to an empty home. He died instantly doing what he loved as a hobby. She was considering how her choice would impact the scientific mission.

    I think Julie made the right decision about sticking with the ship. I hate to say this but these conversations have to take place with the family
    members because of the line of work these doctors/scientists etc..do in regards to the study of our world/planet. Any emergency type situation has to be addressed ahead of time.
    Anyway, these men and women are so admirable in their endeavors to science, and keeping our planet safe! We truly give them all the gratitude they deserve! They truly are heros who dedicate their lives to science in order to help keep our planet safe!

    As an ex deckhand on trawlers,I know only too well what happens to the life on the bottom.Trawling kills everything within the net range,It drags everything along until it"s dead!I"m all for research,but hopefully one day they can design something way better.

      Glad someone first hand says it like it is and 'research' needs to eck off and leave natural ecosystems alone. They do not 'need' us to survive, they've done that for million of years

      @@JoanneSgrignoli yes I realise this,but they also said in that documentary that long line trawling nets trawl that same area certain times of the year,so that means that other people are already doing it.

      It's called science. And "ripping" which is actually a careful process of dissection had, has and will have unforeseen benefits in our understanding from medicine to environmental science to a greater appreciation of the life beyond the superficial.

      Does an international Antarctica treaty right... and there's a fleet of Japanese whaling ships they have in big letters on the side research vessel... they kill hundreds of whales in the Antarctic ocean... under the guise of research... and then openly sell the meat on the Japanese Market...

    just before covid I was in Antarctica and while there were times of concern (walking at different angles) we had a few days of completely still waters. Thank you for showing what was below us.
