After marching snare line 1982, 1984 and 1994 I'd have to say that this night was the best drum corps memory ever...still can't watch without balling...I miss it so much.
This was our family from Revere Mass! I still get tears in my eyes when I see them play Danny Boy. Miss them wish they would come back. Love all you guys.
I was in attendance this nite in old Foxborrow stadium. 27th reunited with 275 horns, and some other ungodly numbers of drums and guard, it was goose bump city. Bleu Raeders 1972
An amazingly fantastic tribute to a GREAT Drum & Bugle Corps. I always enjoyed watching them and still have a tremendous respect for that organization. Really sorry they're not around anymore!!!
That is the best thing I have ever seen.... I wish I was there that night. I saw 27 so many of the years during the late 70's through early 80's. Watching this brought tears to my eyes.... BRAVO!!!!!!!
What a tribute this is the first time I have seen this video...... back when I was very young I saw the 27th lancers. I was so very impressed... I was in the Colorguard 1968 St Patricks Imperials Even then I was fascinated watching the 27 the lancers. the rifle's line was absolutely one of the best. The drumline superb.... Danny Boy always made me cry..... The Colorguard so disciplined... Thank you for showing it brings back so great memories.
I can't believe that the same feeling I get now when seeing 27th is the same that I had back in 79 and the early 80's. It just feels great to get a dose of 27th at anytime. I still believe that 27th should have won DCI in 1980, but it was 2nd place to BD. Thanks 27th for enhancing my drum corps experience back in the day and even now more than ever. Peace to all.
1980 was one heck of a championship. There was only .8 separating Blue Devils, 27th Lancers, Bridgemen, and Spirit of Atlanta. Any of those 4 could've won it that night. I was really pulling for 27th and Spirit, the 2 corps that really took my breath away that season; 27th's visuals and Spirit's hornline. I really miss those days.
Was up around the right 40 yard line in the sands for this show. Watching my Stepfather Bill Fancy and then wife my Mother preform with you all down on the field. It was a glorious night for 27. You all did steal this show.
#1 of my bucket list: invent a time machine and go back to that night. I was not able to get there to witness this performance. At least seeing this video can bring some idea of how wonderful and special it must have been to see it, as an old drum corp dude who fondly remembers watching (and competing againts) the 27th Lancers way back when.
Working with BAC's brass line in '94 I had seen 27 practice a couple of times and was very impressed, but was totally unprepared for the absolutely MONSTER performance at Foxboro that night. Simply blown away. I've seen a lot of alumni corps, and worked with more than one, but besides the Anaheim Kingsmen performance a few years back, it's hard to imagine an alumni corps surpassing this job. Charlie Poole is a legend, almost a drum corps god. Jim Wedge's music has thrilled audiences since (at least) 1970 with the Classical Gas arrangement, plus they originated the high powered visual shows that came to be the earmark of DCI, between Ralph Pace, George Zingali (greatest of all times, IMO), and Mark Silvester. Amazing performance by an amazing legacy of greatness.
THAT WAS A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE THEY PUT TOGETHER MAN WHEN THEY PLAY AT DADDY BOY THAT JUST GETS ME OUT 27 PLAN FOR MY DAD'S FAVORITE CORE AND HE'S GONE NOW BUT I REMEMBER THE REACTION WHEN HE FIRST HEARD DANNY BOY AND HEARD THOSE THOSE BUGLES DO THAT THAT ANTIPOL THING BEFORE DANNY BOY AND HE SAID BOY I LOVE THEM AND HE'S BEEN GOING SINCE 2004 BUT EVERY TIME I SEE THAT VIDEO I JUST SIT HERE AND BALL LIKE A BABY I GOT IT I GOT TO ADMIT IT I DO IT GETS ME EVERY TIME THANK YOU LANCERS TWO SEVEN!!
I will never forget that day sitting with my friends and watching my friends on the field great instructors.... Everybody in the stands went bananas and had chills awesome night for everybody in the stadium in on the field very respectable drum and bugle corps 27 Lancers
Everytime I watch this I get chills and choked up. I wasn't there, don't know anyone who marched and was never fortunate enough to march with a DCI level corps but it brings back such great memories of when I marched in a junior corps. I also remember seeing the 27th at several shows. This must have been such a great experience for all the alumni who participated. Great job! Wish I could have seen it live.
I was just in my late teens early twenties from 76 - through the end. Recently I watched a video of the 72 Legion prelims - I had never seen the corps before 1976 - so this was a key to the history of 27th. I just watched 79 and 80 before the alumni show came on. I just sobbed. It reminded me of my youth and how much, though I was never a member, the corps meant to me. Always loved the music selection, hornline and drum lines outstanding and my favorite - that color guard. Also the years of Zingali! I miss this corps and wish someone would bring them back. The sad part of that is, for them to come back, they would have to make the changes that would keep them competitive with today's drum corps. No matter, whenever I hear Danny Boy - I think of the wheeling company front and that push to the end. They may be gone, but they will never be forgotten. Thank you to all the members who marched and are proud to be Lancers!
Somebody should start bringing back old school, drum and bugle Corp. Forget about DCI marching band garbage. More people will start attending competitions again. Real Drum and bugle Corp, no longer exist, thanks to DCI. It's about time we start taking back, what belongs in this country, our history Our Heritage and support of the American flag. Former member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York 1960 and 1961. After I turn 21 oh, that's right after I turned 21, I joined the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968.
I can remember sitting in the stands that night as i watched the 27 come the staring line the goose flesh started rise as the show progressed siting next my friend; both of marched in the 70s; all we could do was say ..my god yes they are going to do it... by Danny Boy the tears were flowing.27 was one of my favored corps and on this night all paled DCI 94 Boston was about the ...27....this was the highlight of the week and was worth the trip to just 27!
This group was THE inspiration for the Kingsmen Alumni Corps becoming a reality in 2005. We had a Kingsmen reunion in August of 2005 and at an after-party this video was shown. That was the beginning.
Tim reading this brought tears to my eyes... try marching in the hornline playing Danny Boy in the company front... I almost couldn't see because of the tears in my eyes... a night and an experience I will treasure forever....
That's awesome Bob.... I played mellophone in this video.... I will never forget the 50 Yard Line Spectacle Anaheim Kingsman in 1974... great corps.....
I get emotional every time I see this. Saw it that year when it was broadcast to locations around the country. I saw it at Hofheinz Pavillion, home of Phi Slamma Jamma, the darlings of college basketball. The crowd went nuts with 27, and I still do. Maybe the most electrical performance I've ever seen. I did band all through college. My idea of heaven is strapping on your drum on a fall afternoon to work on the next show with more friends than you will ever count for the rest of your life.
Wish they had a list of the people that came back to march in "94" had a friend that did and it would have been nice to recognize him and the rest for showing us drum corps fans they still have it in them.
I marched in 1975 and there was nothing that could touch us. It gave me respect work and pride these are things you don't see now. Practiced 12 hours a day and I'll take all these memories to my grave,. And yes at 61 I can still throw that rifle around. Just like riding a bike
Somebody. Anybody. Please restart this legendary Drum Corps. After all these years the Guard- no drops in during the drum feature, the legendary rifle line was still legendary, perfect as usual.... The Hornline, even with a mix of g bugles and e flat horns they still are as powerful. Bring them back to DCI. The drumline, still as powerful as when I watched them years ago. My Congratulations to all the Lancer Family who were able to make the time to participate in what had to have been a historic Reunion and performance ( I would have loved to see the rehearsal footage....how do you reset drill sets with 230 people?) As Alumni performances go, this was the best Alumni performance I've ever had the chance to see, especially after being away from the activity over ten years while on active duty overseas.
oldschooldrumcorps thank you oldschool... i marched North Star in the day..but it was time for 27th to shine ,,, and we did....will never forget this performance or the year I spent with these amazing people......
I remember seeing this show broadcast to locations around the country. I saw it at Hofheinz Pavillion, home of Phi Slamma Jamma, in Houston. The crowd at the show was going nuts and so were we. There were great alumni shows to come-but this one set the standard. And I envy them that unlike most of us marching musicians down the years, they got the chance to give it one more go. My last go was the 1970 Sugar Bowl. We were on the field before the game, at halftime, and after the game. I still regret not breaking formation somewhere that day and shaking hands with my mates for whom this was the last call. ("Last call" is appropriate considering the fact that 27 modeled themselves in British military tradition)
I LOVE 27--ALWAYS WILL -( midwestern man--love them not because of region and that loyalty--they are old school corps and remind us ALL of what Corps WILL ALWAYS BE ABOUT! I will say it again--the 1980 TITLE BELONGS TO 27!!!)
I marched with 27 I. 78 and 79. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to be a part of this. A friend who participated I. This great experience was telling me about the rehearsals and said, “some of these bastards were trying to win Nationals that year”. Both funny and a testament to the competitive spirit that was in every Lancer. Always strive to be great.
I was one of the kids. I was 7 years old in 94. My parents both marched along with my Aunt Lynn. Matt and Gail in the soprano line and Aunt Lynn was either a snare or in the guard. I don't remember. I just remember it being an annoying trip from West Haven, Connecticut to Revere for practice haha
You're exactly right...if you look back and see how many Corps were active in the North East in the 50's through the 80's, and compare it to now, it's amazing there is still DCI. DCI must reach out to the communities and try to foster development for the activity. Hey, Little league teams do it, soccer teams do it, Drum Corps at the open class level should be helped in development.
This is why Alumni Corps exhibitions are on Friday - can't have the exhibition blow away the DCI Champ. If you were there that night you might not recall who won, but you remember this!
way to cool.. When I just think, how EVERYbody had an "Alumni Corp" back then.. But when it was all said and done, there was really only one ;) thx for THAT memory Guys~
It was THIS VIDEO that convinced me to try to play in the Bridgemen Alumni Corps, when they came back to the field in 2006 for the first time since folding. I saw these guys doing it "just one more time", and I knew I had to try !!!!!!! I had NO drum corps experience, but extensive band experience and 2 years as a music teacher. Woodwind player, but I could get some rudimentary brass chops, so I borrowed a baritone to practice and went to Bayonne. I expected to hear one or two screamers and the rest of the Bridgemen were pretty mediocre. Could not have been more wrong !! They COOKED !!!! I played 4th bari/5 note range, but I had the time of my life ! I will be forever grateful to George Lavelle bringing me in for a true "bucket list" moment. I GOT TO WEAR THE YELLOW COAT !!! How cool is that ????!?
@goialie 5hole: Almost 300 representing Lancers from three decades (and some of their DC friends & spouses) The biggest drum corps to perform a field show.
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! A STANDING OVATION FROM THE FIRST NOTE!!! WAY TO GO JOANNE ABRUZZO!!!
MAN THE LAST WORDS WERE ONE OF A KIND I'LL TELL YOU WHAT IF YOU CAN LISTEN TO DANNY BOY AND I KNOW HOW MUCH MY DAD LOVE TO SEVEN AND HE PASSED AWAY IN 2004 AND EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS VIDEO I JUST BALL LIKE A BABY. I MEAN IT'S REALLY EMOTIONAL FOR ME WHEN I HEAR DANNY BOY. THE SOPRANO ANTIPHONNAL THING AT THE BEGINNING OF IT IS JUST AMAZING
I was on the 40 yd line with my pregnant wife, who gave birth to our first, Pat, only hours after, on our way home to NYS in Springfield, the next day Pat was rushed to Boston Childrens NICU and was cared for by a 27 alumni.
Did you name the baby Danny boy or Lance? Always love the 27th Lancers one of my all-time favorite Junior drum Corps. Former member of the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 through 1968.
Honey...my 6 yr old daughter was up in the stands with my family watching us. My one year old was at home. It was a wonderful experience playing Mellophone with this line. Who is your Mom?
Love this video. I saw where DCI is offering Legacy Collection videos for sale. Was wondering if anyone has the video of the 1994 show from Foxboro and if so, does it contain the exhibition performance of the 27th Lancers?
Group is mix of alumni & family members, former instructors/staff, membersof other corps who'd been previously instructed either by Lancer staff or by former Lancers, and a few "guest-friends" who wished they'd had a chance to march when the 27th lancers were still operating. Prior to the DCI Finals at Foxborough, the whole group spent nearly two years (from 1992) rehearsing, and marching in parades and exhibition. So, as far as everyone was concerned 2 yrs of involvement made them "members."
After marching snare line 1982, 1984 and 1994 I'd have to say that this night was the best drum corps memory ever...still can't watch without balling...I miss it so much.
I balled as well... even though you beat my parents in 75...
well not you... but Lancers lol
Thank you.. This was was my dad's corps from Revere. The song is Crown Imperial..Their theme song was Danny Boy"
Which brought tears to his eyes!
Best guard of all time . Those rifles they still got it.
The best. Watch this again and again.
People are still talking about this show, what a feeling....
This was our family from Revere Mass! I still get tears in my eyes when I see them play Danny Boy.
Miss them wish they would come back.
Love all you guys.

Thank you so much for posting watching this text to stress away and bring those back to a wonderful evening
This blew me away.To see this live was an incredible experience.
Thanks 27! You inspired so many of us.
Wow! What a drumline. 27 snares, and what a guard. Those rifles got me and the way of performing m&m is just stunning. I miss that dedication nowadays

Just got chills watching this again. What an awesome thing to be a part of for them. Love it.
Wow !!! 28 Years later ... and this Performance still bring Tears. A Night of Magic that will resonate forever across the D&B Corps Activity.

I agree with you 100%
I still get chills watching this! What an awesome experience. It was an honor to march with so many Lancers that I was to young to march with.
18 years later and I'm still sharing this video with colleagues...crazy

I will never forget that day sitting with my friends and watching my friends on the field great instructors.... Everybody in the stands went bananas and had chills awesome night for everybody in the stadium in on the field very respectable drum and bugle corps 27 Lancers

For all of us who never had the chance to go back and do it again-we love and admire you and are soooooo jealous!
The only regret I have is that I wasn't able to watch it from the stands..but I wouldn't give back this experience for anything!
The biggest and Best drum and bugle corps I have ever seen... Performing... The once more and 94 Rocked ... And I am a Beverly Cardinal

I have NEVER not cried as the rifles pierce the drumline during Danny Boy. It is such a statement! !!!
Wish they had a list of the people that came back to march in "94" had a friend that did and it would have been nice to recognize him and the rest for showing us drum corps fans they still have it in them.
I remember watching them perform.....AWESOME!!!!!!!
27th Lancers is forever!!!here in the philippines the 27th Lancers is a LEGEND...
My body was a Belleville Black Knight but my heart and soul belong to the 27th Lancers!!!
I marched in 1975 and there was nothing that could touch us. It gave me respect work and pride these are things you don't see now. Practiced 12 hours a day and I'll take all these memories to my grave,. And yes at 61 I can still throw that rifle around. Just like riding a bike
Yes Paula 75 Lancers what a great corps. If I remember correctly perfect 10in GE horns perfect 10 in GE m&m and best colorguard that year.
My compliments to the rifle squad! Still the best IMHO in all of drum corps! Great Job.
Watching this breaks me up every time... :) So glad I was there.
Somebody. Art I had tears streaming down my face as we came forward in the Danny Boy company front. Almost couldn't play!
cant lie, choked up when the rifles split the snares, Danny boy oh boy
I missed it. Was living in St. Pete, Fla. What a bummer. At least I can see it here.
Forget Hopkins EVER existed ... THIS IS DRUM CORPS!!!!!
AMEN
greatest rifle line in drum corps history. they still got it.
Always strive to be great.
same here only to find what I thought wasnt true and I could have actually been the 8th quad
Crown Imperial! That's awesome!
Still get goosebumps when I watch their videos

Their rifle line is still the best in history.

THANK YOU 27!!!
That whole rifle sequence starting at 11:13...I just lost it at that point...so noble and beautiful.
That was great fun. Thanks for posting the video.

Love this video. I saw where DCI is offering Legacy Collection videos for sale. Was wondering if anyone has the video of the 1994 show from Foxboro and if so, does it contain the exhibition performance of the 27th Lancers?
Please bring back the 27th. I miss them.
@goalie5hole
230 I was in the Mellophone line..
MY DADDY IS DOWN THERE!
So is mine!

I agree! The rifles and flags as well.
I have no idea...I have a CD that was given to all us members..it was 1994...dont know if there is a better quality video out there...
