Wow - all I have to say is - get this man on the NixOS team as a lead -compensate him for his efforts - you are correct in that the instructions remind me of those textbooks back in the day that give you an “example” of a problem - but it really doesn’t solve the problem. The amount of extra steps needed makes me think you need to be hired by these people to actually fix their misleading communication. It’s the equivalent of creating a manual to explain the poorly worded instructions.
