Blanche's art is really the number one thing that hooked me in as a kid/young teenager. I'd never seen anything like it and to my young mind it almost felt dangerous in it's weird darkness. The flying ships in particular really caught me, with their almost Monty Python-esque proportions set against apocalyptic skies or flying through bizarre fever dream landscapes. You joking mentioned Jim Henson earlier in the video but there's an element of that kind of unhinged weirdness that occasionally pokes out of Henson's work as well that I think tie the two together in pulling from a kind of shared visionary landscape. I recently picked up a copy of Blanche's Voodoo Forest book and it hit my like a ton of bricks. I had this realization actually, heretical as it may be, that maybe some of what I thought I loved about "Warhammer" was really just John Blanche's own personal vision, lent to the games, more than it was anything actually specific to the games.

A lot of people today never had a chance to play Man O War, but in my opinion it’s one of the greatest games GW ever made. The rulebooks are a joy to read. I’ve got everything they ever released for the game and it’s one of my most prized possessions.

If I'm recalling correctly, my first ever issue of White Dwarf (206) had a battle report that included a Skaven Doomwheel and multiple Snotling Pump Wagons ... so I knew that Warhammer was going to be my sort of silly right from the offset!

Fun video Jordan, thank you! I'm perhaps w bit boring in my vehicle taste in Warhammer as my favourites are all the chariots, I really love all of them. Can't really select the best, there's some glorious 80s Warhammer chariots and I also love the simple plastic Tomb Kings chariots. I prefer the grounded gritty take on Warhammer, for my taste stuff like this went way too far after 6th edition although the Marienburg Landship is absolutely glorious. Well, I wouldn't consider it too fantastical really, it's funky but still has that correct grounded feel to it unlike the gyrobomber etc.

Given how notorious the old 90s Thunderhawks are/were to put together (even now!) It is probably flr the best that John Blanches Flying Ships not getting a release when everything was made in metal/Resin was probably for the best. If not for the would-be hobbiests sanity

I once fielded 3 chariots and 2 snotling pump wagons. We had a river with one bridge and two fords. On turn one, I got all 3 chariots half way across the bridge and fords. The dwarfs shot up the chariots, destroying them and blocking the bridge and fords, thus ending the game on turn one.

I could swear I used to have an old metal Doomwheel, along with a Screaming Bell. But I haven't been able to find them for 20+ years, along with all my old metal Skaven troops from the late 80's early 90's. I'm pretty sure I didn't sell them, but no idea what happened to them.

The chaos dwarf seige vehicle is famous and highly collectible, but it seems like not very many were actually made. There are numerous Man O War ships that I would rate as more interesting than the orc one. The less well known chaos bull centaur whirlwind is very interesting, the tenderizer not so much but has a wacky appeal.
