When Steve Baker starts talking he is talking about the factory MY 75 TZ750.
The factory GP YZR500 had received monoshock rear end from beginning of 74. The new compact OW23 for the end of season is basically what later became the legendary OW31 F750 bike for 76.

I remember looking at one of these 750 bikes around that time. For whatever reason there was one at a Yamaha dealer in Dana Point CA (long gone). It was so futuristic, I remember having this fantasy about cruising it up I395 in the Owens Valley at 150 mph. There was nothing remotely that fast and street legal too in those days. That was a long time ago, these days one could crack 200 on a 20 year old $5000 used Busa.

Thats basically uncivered...but that looks a lot like my1986 Yamaha FZ 750 with 5 valves per cylynder....3 intake an 2 exhsust...6500rpm that valve what start to the open the tach needle would go into convulsions an go from 6500 right to 11000 rpm..
At 6500 i began letting the clutch out...best part was i dont use the clutch to shift...u see those carbs sitting in thevalve covers...u couldput thecarbs any closer to the combustian chamber...i had throttle control of 200 rpm of reduction at 11500 and thats all ineeded to flick it into gear as fast as i could...in stock trim that 86 was awsum on the starts...my motor looked just like that motor laid down to 35 degrees for weight placement...i used piss off the flag man as soon as his elbow would start going up i was gone he felt old in a hurry...u shoulda seen the look he gave me....he tryed ti move his arm faster but thst wasnt happening not as long as he was holding that flag...ah good fun good raffs

You're talking about the engine close up about mid way through? That sure looked like a 4 stroke?
