It's actually a drawn out process but the initial training is a minimum of 2 weeks. But that doesn't include the consolidation period where a trainee is left on his own under minimum supervision before the final assesment.
Had a dumper the same size after landing a job with a commercial "hardware" company that serviced the uranium mines around grants NM, mostly my job was picking up waste steel from different locations from several mines in that area and dumping at the correct location, this was in 1980, no gps, no co- pilot, the only thing I was in charge of was how my truck was loaded, the only thing that landed me that job was the manager asking me "do you think you can back this truck out of the yard (a long narrow path), and into traffic without getting into a wreck" i'm like, let's do it then you will know, was hired that day, on my third run i realized if I balanced the load just right I could do a weelstand in third gear, most fun job a young man ever had.
I reckon I've been to nearly every mine in WA so yeah I get around. Biggest machines I operated were a 75 ton Wabco (a toy) and a Cat 992B loader (not quite a toy) back in the '70s so it is informative looking at the really big gear you guys operate.

I think you're right there brother. From what I know Brockman 4 has an 830E fleet as well as a lot of other great gear I wouldn't mind getting my hands on. When I learned to drive one I was given three days of training before I was allowed to drive alone in the truck. Though the person training me sitting next to me spent a fair bit of time falling asleep - mining is very tiring, 12 hour shifts, day and night for weeks on end before you get time off.
I drove these trucks from about age 19 to 23... Good paying job but!! I have to say after a week in there 12hrs rotating shifts it gets hell of boring! U run out of music 2 listen to.. your always alone! Not 2 mention u get hungry n start gaining a lot of weight after a while!!! LOL shit I miss the pay but not driving that thing!!! LOL seriously!!

You can pop their tyres, their fuel tank lasts around 24 hours and theyre not super slow. They do 60 pretty easy and can get up to 100 downhill.
