There is so much to love here . . . The song is epic- that harmonica, piano . . Neil, at the very beginning so so new, bright and shiny! Adorable, humble.
The great Ellie Greenwich really makes this song, amazing background vocals. Look her up, she did all the background work on the Bang years, and she added the "shoop shoop" to Aretha's "Chain of Fools" too. RIP, Ellie. Never forgotten.
@@b.j.thomas8606 Are you ever going to change your avatar's screen name? Because BJ Thomas is the singer who died just a few years back----Recent death, but do you really want to be confused with someone who is no longer with us?
I always remembered when these songs came out that what made them sound so cool and appealing to the girls, was this really groovy sounding female voice, Rock-in it in the background. And she wasn't that far in the background, her voice was so substantial and a part of the sound that without it, it wouldn't be the same. It was just that good. It should've been titled Neil Diamond and Ellie Greenwich, on all of those Bang records. Especially Cherry -Cherry. She turned out to be a legend in her own right, on many levels. So cool.
I was raised up on his music so when I got older I joined band to play music and read music and write songs I play instruments but have the worst voice their is I sound like a cat with its tail in door lol
Excellent song. My faves 1. Solitary Man 2. Cracklin Rose 3. Girl You'll be a woman soon 4. Sweet Caroline 5. This one .. I never liked I am I said or Play Me or Forever in blue jeans . I guess i don't like even a little kitsch by him. I mean this song has a little but it's still good. Billy Joel has too much kitsch and I don't like him. Paul McCartney had it and I don't like anything much he did with Wings .
When he got to CA, he installed a wall of mirrors in his basement so he could watch himself perform. Not sure it did much good, lol. He never seemed, IMHO, to be really comfortable moving on stage--except for that time in July of '76 in Las Vegas.

@@b.j.thomas8606 Too bad they didn't appear on stage with him.

I use it because it is my real name given to me by my parents. I met him once and he didn't like it but I showed him my driver's license.
Love this song. A great one!
YES THIS IS ONE OF ALL TIME FAVOURITES BY NEIL.
Neil Diamond had such beautiful hair. Look like I remember this song being a little slower. I just love the words
he still had his Elvis hairdo and sideburns even in 1967! a real rebel!
The man is GREAT!
He CAN SING A N Y T H I N G!!🥰🥰
He the greatest singer of all time
@james Jameson wrong again bob dylan
The best ever.....Tommy Sandwich
The best ever..really makes you want to dance!
@@George-bj5ki Well the great singer songwriters are Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

GOSH, HE WAS VERY HANDSOME AS A YOUNG MAN. HIS EARLY MUSIC IS AWESOME ... SOME PEOPLE ONLY KNOW SWEET CAROLINE !!! HOW SAD ...
I can still see the dance contest on AB on a saturday!
but can ya dance to it? HELL yes!
🎙🎛🎼🎶🎶🥁🎹
I prefer this to 'You don't bring me flowers' any day - what a snappy production!
What an awful song that was! And Forever in Bluejeans to. I dislike all that but earlier Neil is awesome!
@@hughestodd Yeh, the early recordings were all energy & bite, unlike the later stuff - all too often the opposite.
agree...Neil, like Elvis and Bob Seger, pretty much left Rock and Roll in his later career and did only sappy ballads....
I wish I could see the band playing with him
LOVE THIS SONG ‼️

Great treat, thanks.
Neil Diamond, will you ever calm down?!
You got me hooked Neil
Good song, looks like American Bandstand.
Yes it is American Bandstand.
its so funny watching people, how they were so restrained back then lol
You had to be or they would throw you out
I've also read that he had real bad stage fright for many years.
I like restraints ha. Neil or the audience ? And i dislike aggressive loud noisy people. Cool and Quiet is best.
Elvis put a stop to this! 🤣
Sixteen years and all one life for away😂🎉❤
The greatest !!!
Bueno yo 💃💃💃muchas gracias por el vidio
We were so young
Wish you still here on Earth with us Patty, we could check out Neil with these you tube videos.

The mouth part looks like an old Japanese war movie.
😁
Years have caught up to him, and Parkinson's Disease, and he doesn't know where he is?!
The audience look a bit underwhelmed , l suppose back then they didn't realise they were I'm the presence of one of the all time greats
Who played harmonica on this?
🎙🎛 yes harp... seven 0 & started playing harp to this tune. 🎼🥁🎹📻

What are the backup singers singing ??
Ellie Greenwich
🎶🎶🎶🌄🙆♀️☕🐠🐠🐠🐠
Who/where is the harmonica player?
I don't think this is live.
lip-sync, of course. I'd love to know who the session harmonica player was!
I found an interview where Neil says it was Huey McCracken on harmonica. www.iaisnd.com/interviews/murray-the-k/
@@b.j.thomas8606pretty sure it’s Hugh McCracken on Harmonica
was that Clark Kent in the audience??
Dr John Pollard. This is American Bandstand audience. The audience in this clip was the dancers.
He is incredibly stiff, almost like he doesn't want to dance at all but let someone else talk him into it!
NOT THE " ORIGINAL " IT WASN'T BROKE, SO WHY'D THEY " FIX " IT : MESSED IT UO
Stiff as a board white man dancing.
But at least it's real music and singing
