In the leak, there’s like a magnet switch as a locking mechanism so it’s not going to be as fragile as you thought (in the same place as the current one)
I just want to put this here for those who might not realize. From what I’ve seen in leaks (take with a grain of salt) the connection of the controllers are magnets. Now how strong these magnets are time can only tell. I just couldn’t tell if pointcrow knew this or not when talking about the joycon connections.
In 0:55 we can see indents at the bottom of the colored part of the controller, which could mean the magnets are only there to hold the controller in place so a mechanical lock can be engaged.
Listen, before we judge it, they didn’t even give us a single detail of any feature on the console. They casually shadow drop Mario Kart 9 AND THE switch 2 at the same time on a THURSDAY AT 5:30 AM PACIFIC TIME. It’s going to be cool I bet on it. But we don’t even know what the heck that C button does! NOTHING is explained. But I guess we’ll just have to see in the future.
3:38 I wouldn't be worried about the locking mechanism, there still being an unlock button on the back tells me they should be on pretty well. Either the button will somehow weaken the magnet allowing the user to take them off, or the magnets *won't* be super strong and there'll be some second more secure locking mechanism that the button deactivates But I agree about the connector, at least 100 people are gonna break shit within the first week
backwards incompatible games are the ones that use the ir sensor or need the exact size of the first device, like labo or the wheel, in order to play. it's no big deal.
My immediate thought with this trailer was that those connector tabs were going to get shattered to f*** I'm so glad that everyone else sees the same problem.
4:43 the black model isn’t the only one. We already know of a model where all of the black is replaced with white, and there’s also a Mario kart 9 model (and another 2 more maybe that we don’t know anything about
That makes no sense at all. April 2 is a presentation. You can have a presentation before the start of the new fiscal year, it has no effect on taxes. It’s a presentation. If the presentation was in February, that means they would have been ready to release it in April. The presentation being in April, the launch is probably around June.
4:10 It’s magnetically held, and there’s a notch that keeps it in. There’s a trigger on the back of the joycon that releases the notch. The connector is probably going to be fine, it shouldn’t have any stress on it.
About the Joycons. You missed something during the cgi morphing of them into the new ones. At the top and bottom are Latch Hooks. Probably an unseen Release for those on the cons or the System itself, but they'll lock the Cons into place, and the Physical Circuit will provide a better connection for Charging the Joycons. An example: my nephew has a switch, and it stopped registering when the left con was attached to the system completely... So we had to buy an external Joycon charging thing(NOT ACTUALLY A LICENSED PRODUCT) so he could continue playing. That won't happen here. Instead, they'll attached in a way akin to a Game boy Cartridge... Could the Attachment break? Probably. But you would have to be pretty rough with it to do so. Plus not having to slide on means no more Faulty latch, making the cons disconnect mid-game and detach, resulting in the Switch falling to the ground while you are standing outside, waiting on a school bus(for example), and shattering the screen.(my other nephew. Poor kid.) It's an improvement. And possibly a step back, technologically, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
The new joycons attach magnetically; there aren't any latches in the slots on the side of the Switch 2. The latch hooks are for the new straps where you can see the latches, and the straps themselves have a button for releasing the latch.
@iamc24 first: THERE ARE NO MAGNETIC CONNECTORS ANYWHERE . Solid plastic. Magnetic connectors are VISIBLE. second: The latch hook things for the Strap makes sense... Except they are at both ends. Third: they attach via Metal Circuit Plug, much like a Hard drive on an Xbox one or certain PCs. The tiny latches Are likely to hook BOTH the Wrist strap, AND latch the Cons into the System. That is an exposed Circuit used for connection. A magnet would fry that connector. Finally: that's likely an LCD, or OLED, screen, rather than a simple LED... Both of which are EXTREMELY succeptible to magnet damage. Ever sat a magnet next to a TV? Bad idea. How about a video game console? Game card? Magnets can damage all three. Putting in enough magnetic screening to put magnetic attachments on this would drive the price up significantly, meaning it would cost somewhere in the PS5 Pro/Apple I-Phone Range, Which Nintendo has stated they WILL NOT do. Does it Click in via these 4 little latches? Maybe, Maybe Not. But there is not a single glimpse of a magnetic connector. So unless the entire Shell is made of magnetized metal, magnets are unlikely. That was just a Rumor from an unsubstantiated Leak.
@ The magnet issue with electronics has been solved for a while now. Nowadays, they only really affect the parts that use magnets to function, like speakers, cameras, compasses, and hard drives. LCD and OLED aren't susceptible to magnets; that's just wrong. The only displays that magnets affect are CRTs. Also, no modern form of memory or storage (that isn't a hard drive) is susceptible to magnets. And basically all modern circuitry is shielded against magnetic interference. Obviously a strong enough magnet can still cause interference in any piece of electronics, but it would need to be an industrial strength magnet, if not even more powerful than that. No consumer product would have or even need a magnet that strong. As for magnetic connectors not being visible, they really don't need to be. The magnet in my laptop can hold two old plastic gift cards in between it and something else metal without any slipping, and it isn't really all that strong. Stronger magnets than that would be used for the Joycon attachment, and it would be absolutely fine, even if there were layers of plastic between. And that's not even considering the fact that there could be magnets in both the Joycons and the Switch 2, instead of just on one side of the connection. Finally, in the promotional animation on their website, you can see that the Joycon release trigger pushes out a circular part of the top of the inside of the Joycon connection. That would be for breaking the magnetic connection enough to be able to pull out the Joycon. If Joycons did connect with latches on the Switch 2 side, the release mechanism would be very different. And again, I'll repeat: THERE ARE NO LATCHES IN THE SLOTS ON THE SIDES OF THE SWITCH 2, YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE AREN'T.
I like the point you make here, but I am a bit concerned about how we would hold this thing. Imagine if you were playing the handheld switch 2, and you somehow pull it apart, and the screen falls to the ground. I think it would have been better if we plugged the controllers into the console, rather than plugging the console into the controllers.
I’m personally concerned about the coloring on the sides of the console itself. What if I get one model but then have to replace the Joy-Cons? If I don’t get the same color ones, it’ll be frustratingly mismatched
3:56 they’re held in with magnets, the knobs on the back physically pull the magnets apart to make it easier. This is good because kids tend to yank the joy cons off without unlocking them, which on switch 1 would break things, but on switch 2 it won’t it’ll just be harder, and it’s going to break anything it’ll be your hand (and if that happens I feel like that’s your own fault)
At first I was also worried about the new controller design, but as I've thought about it it's probably better. The weakpoint of the og rails was upwards, if too much force was applied (or you damaged it by not using the button) they could fall out. The weakpoint of the new design it outwards, and you don't often have significant force in that direction. It's also magnetic, so it can't wear out (unless the connector is damaged, I hope Nintendo did enough testing on that)
Didn't even see the notice that some games won't be compatible. If I had to guess - it is games that use the ir sensor on the base of the right joycon, because they moved it. This would be 1,2 switch, nintendo Labo, Warioware - a short list
I have just watched the original Switch reveal trailer and when it comes to colours, they did the same thing. It was just grey joycons throughout the netire reveal, so I think Nintendo will have more colours options on day one, just like they did with OG Switch.
I'm fine with the more or less minimalistic external design language they've gone with. What I DO WANT from Switch 2 is a return to a more fun, inviting, colourful and whimsical user interface. Quirky gimmicks in the UI was always what made a Nintendo FEEL like a Nintendo when I was a kid, so I'd love if they'd recapture some of that with Switch 2!
yeah don't care about the external look. I won't be taping my console to a wall and staring at it. I love unique and cool ui designs like playstation did for the 50th anniversary hope the UI is not bland.
Not necessary 18+ things, I think he is referring to, uh, multiplayer when 'tendo didn't intend multiplayer. But I might be wrong, perhaps it is indeed lewd.
1:07 according to leakers so it might not be true, but the joy cons are supposed to be Hall effect so it is impossible. If not, at least way less likely for them to get drift. Again, I could be wrong and I’ll eat it if I am.
This is definitely a second Switch. Besides Mario Kart 9 stuff I don’t really have any more thoughts than that until April (or leaks give even more details before April).
If you look at the end of the colored section of the joy-con at around 00:48, there seems to be an indent, most likely for the snap-in snap-out connection. At 01:34, you can see the back triggers, including a new secondary trigger on both joy-cons. On the bottom, next to the joycons, there seem to be small buttons on the main body of the console, possibly for separating the joy-cons? Watching it again, at 00:32 it shows what i thought was a "button" is actually the foot for tabletop mode! So no idea how the separation works.
based on the leaks, the connectors to the joy2cons have a latch in the back at the same time as the magnets also yea i want some cooler joycons but the highlights are neat
i just noticed 0:00 right at the start, when the switch turns into the switch 2 see that little dot on the bottom of the switch (slightly left) its the light sensor it lets you automatically adjust the brightness and its not on the switch 2 by the looks of things
finally seeing someone with the same concern about the controllers only being held by magnets. Kids especially i feel are gonna be pulling it apart and it falling out and breaking the screen
That notch on that connects to the joycons is apparently a magnet, so there's no need to be forceful with it you would just gently move the magnetic receptors towards eachother and the magnet would do all the placing for you. I feel like if you break a magnetic piece of hardware like that it's your own fault for introducing kinetic force to a magnetic force where it is unnecessary.
I really like the colored highlights, but it just doesn’t have enough. Highlights around the buttons would be nice too so it’s not just basically all black when connected to the switch. Also it seems like there’s a bit of a divot where the joycons connect, so they kinda slide inside of the switch a bit so they won’t be able to wiggle the connector part and snap it off (not unless you are actively trying to snap it off of course).
I’m not a fan of how only the part beneath the joysticks are colored. Just looks out of place at that point; there should either be a bit more or none at all
how does everyone miss the fact the switch2 HAS TWO USB C PORT NOT JUST ONE, making it more versatile on how you charge it instead of being weird angled to charge it undocked.
@ Do you see any hand grips on the controller cause look at it again and pause it. It’s been cut in half, I know what the controller looked like for the first one :)
@BlizzardIRL-m7l Dude I'm looking at it and it's the same. Obviously a slight revision to fit the new Joycons but it's the exact same idea as the first controller.
@@IfYouSeekCaveman it really isnt, on the 2017 one the edges of the hand holds on tbe controller attachment come up and are flush with the face of the joycons. This is only possible because those joycons would slide down however for the switch 2 since they snap on from the side it means there cant be anything blocking it. Its hard to explain in words so if ypur still confused just look at a controller attachment and youll see what im talking about
3:55 I understand where you're coming from and i agree, but I do want to say that my family's switch has been having problems with the joycons disconnecting even when locked on to the console to the point that if you want to just use the switch you have to have the joycons unlocked a sliding around because then at least they'll stay disconnected instead of flip flopping back and forth. (and yes, we tried cleaning the connectors and things to fix this but it didn't work). This way that hopefully won't be a problem, but i do think they should change from the current design at least a bit to help make it more reliable.
The protruding connector for the joy con is rubber. Bendable shouldn't be nearly as easy to brake. Joycons are held in place using electromagnet, which should have a very strong connection and be less prone to breaking than the rails of the first Switch.
3:55 the CURRENT joycon connecting method is prone to failing, i have 2 OLED switches that dont like to keep joycons on and makes it almost impossible to play in handheld mode.

In the leak, there’s like a magnet switch as a locking mechanism so it’s not going to be as fragile as you thought (in the same place as the current one)
the video was so chill, i loved it
PointCrow looks like Andy Sandberg’s long lost brother.
I just want to put this here for those who might not realize. From what I’ve seen in leaks (take with a grain of salt) the connection of the controllers are magnets. Now how strong these magnets are time can only tell. I just couldn’t tell if pointcrow knew this or not when talking about the joycon connections.
it seems like there are multiple points of connection, since there are trigger buttons to remove the controllers
@ I believe from what I’ve heard is that the trigger pulls the magnets in the controller away from the switch
It’ll be way sturdier
In 0:55 we can see indents at the bottom of the colored part of the controller, which could mean the magnets are only there to hold the controller in place so a mechanical lock can be engaged.
Not the “intimate with the sounds” 😂😂😂
Listen, before we judge it, they didn’t even give us a single detail of any feature on the console. They casually shadow drop Mario Kart 9 AND THE switch 2 at the same time on a THURSDAY AT 5:30 AM PACIFIC TIME. It’s going to be cool I bet on it. But we don’t even know what the heck that C button does! NOTHING is explained. But I guess we’ll just have to see in the future.
3:38 I wouldn't be worried about the locking mechanism, there still being an unlock button on the back tells me they should be on pretty well. Either the button will somehow weaken the magnet allowing the user to take them off, or the magnets *won't* be super strong and there'll be some second more secure locking mechanism that the button deactivates
But I agree about the connector, at least 100 people are gonna break shit within the first week
I hope they have some more interesting flavors for the cartridges this time
backwards incompatible games are the ones that use the ir sensor or need the exact size of the first device, like labo or the wheel, in order to play. it's no big deal.
1:29 This specific bit reminds me of the intro of Jazzpunk
3:20 "...Switch that I use for.... other things...."
*Nintendo breathing down his neck*
I can’t wait to get this and tear it apart and make the casing all titanium. Fck I’m salivating. Also there’s is a locking mechanism.
My immediate thought with this trailer was that those connector tabs were going to get shattered to f*** I'm so glad that everyone else sees the same problem.
4:43 the black model isn’t the only one. We already know of a model where all of the black is replaced with white, and there’s also a Mario kart 9 model (and another 2 more maybe that we don’t know anything about
It's not black. It's grey, charcoal grey.
@ it has been stated time and time again by people who have seen it that it’s matt black. And we already know that internally it’s known as “black”
April second is be cause of their fiscal year that starts April first.
They can't do shit before that because it's too soon to do taxes on it.
That makes no sense at all. April 2 is a presentation. You can have a presentation before the start of the new fiscal year, it has no effect on taxes. It’s a presentation.
If the presentation was in February, that means they would have been ready to release it in April.
The presentation being in April, the launch is probably around June.
4:10
It’s magnetically held, and there’s a notch that keeps it in.
Poor kid.)
It's an improvement.
I think it would have been better if we plugged the controllers into the console, rather than plugging the console into the controllers.
that sucks for your nephew. My connector rail broke and I can't play in handheld mode anymore, but I can at least charge the joycon when locked in...
“Switch Utah, switch on that thang”
I’m personally concerned about the coloring on the sides of the console itself. What if I get one model but then have to replace the Joy-Cons? If I don’t get the same color ones, it’ll be frustratingly mismatched
I’m so glad someone else pointed out the joy cons
someone going to brreak the controller snap on thingy I guarantee it
The slap sound when connecting the controllers is so satisfying
3:56 they’re held in with magnets, the knobs on the back physically pull the magnets apart to make it easier. This is good because kids tend to yank the joy cons off without unlocking them, which on switch 1 would break things, but on switch 2 it won’t it’ll just be harder, and it’s going to break anything it’ll be your hand (and if that happens I feel like that’s your own fault)
2:45 *EXACTLY* what I was thinking.
They *actually* did it cus its the switch 2, also the reason the video is 2:22
Idk why his is 2:21 but mine and a lot of peoples in the comments of the releses, is 2:22
Autism day lmao.
Why didn't they make it 2/2/2025...
Matter of a fact, they should've released the switch 2 on 2/22/2022
@@Gidd_playz yea that would be cooler but thats not enough time to make it
"Hands on events? Not for me"
Cant wait for "I GOT TOO PLAY THE SWITCH 2 EARLY" by Pointcrow
They might have also chosen april 2nd because its switch 2. The reveal trailer is 2:22 after all
feb 2nd would have been a better release date in this case
@gonpachi_0303 truuuu
It's more than likely because they didn't want people thinking it wasn't an April fools joke
No, 4=2x2 so there's two twos
Wow, they can press buttons? That’s next-level interaction right there!
It's also magnetic, so it can't wear out (unless the connector is damaged, I hope Nintendo did enough testing on that)
people who got a nintendo switch on christmas watching the trailer of switch 2:
istg when i showed my mom the switch 2 trailer she also immediately said "its bigger!"
3:00 THANK-YOU!
'Switch Tuah, lets Switch on that thing' 💀
You have to press a button to release the joycons
I had the same thoughts about April 2nd LMAO
They should colour the buttons
3:22 so we're all just gunna glaze over this...... no no no eric please explain yourself
edit: pointcrow? more like freakycrow
Not necessary 18+ things, I think he is referring to, uh, multiplayer when 'tendo didn't intend multiplayer.
But I might be wrong, perhaps it is indeed lewd.
@ ik I’m just jokin
I was just looking for this!
switch tuah 🗣️🔥🔥
That connector seems much easier to replace, so I’m not super worried about it
if they make it like a flat contacts like a magnet pads not as scary like that pointy and will break, is suuuper scary
I think a spring-based cushion that covers the exposed Joy-Con connectors when detached would've been ideal.
1:07 according to leakers so it might not be true, but the joy cons are supposed to be Hall effect so it is impossible. If not, at least way less likely for them to get drift. Again, I could be wrong and I’ll eat it if I am.
Wow ur the newest comment
now time to make PointCrow reacts to PointCrow reacts to the Switch 2 trailer
Pointcrow needs to watch this
That ain’t the switch… that’s the snap
This is definitely a second Switch. Besides Mario Kart 9 stuff I don’t really have any more thoughts than that until April (or leaks give even more details before April).
Stupidest design for joycons if you consider that kids would handle this and break that connector the second they get their hands on it.
Doesn't that apply to any controller/device when it stems from kids being reckless?
@@hideofreakingkojima5457 yeah
The reaction was impeccable
im also scared about the connectors
If you look at the end of the colored section of the joy-con at around 00:48, there seems to be an indent, most likely for the snap-in snap-out connection.
At 01:34, you can see the back triggers, including a new secondary trigger on both joy-cons. On the bottom, next to the joycons, there seem to be small buttons on the main body of the console, possibly for separating the joy-cons?
Watching it again, at 00:32 it shows what i thought was a "button" is actually the foot for tabletop mode! So no idea how the separation works.
The extra back triggers are for releasing the joycons. It was in a how to use type video by Nintendo
based on the leaks, the connectors to the joy2cons have a latch in the back at the same time as the magnets
also yea i want some cooler joycons but the highlights are neat
"someone's gonna break this, day 1"
yeah maybe a child. it's not like it's made by nokia or something.
i just noticed
0:00
right at the start, when the switch turns into the switch 2
see that little dot on the bottom of the switch (slightly left)
its the light sensor
it lets you automatically adjust the brightness
and its not on the switch 2 by the looks of things
The connectors attach to the controllers magnetically and click into place so you have to use a button on the back to slide it off of the console
3:39 - 4:13 There's a separate button that you'll need to press to release them, like on Switch 1. It shows it on the website
finally seeing someone with the same concern about the controllers only being held by magnets. Kids especially i feel are gonna be pulling it apart and it falling out and breaking the screen
3:20 bro watches corn on his switch, absolutely wild behaviour...
No he is talking about modding stuff which Nintendo does not like.
@gammagames1413 yeah, obviously, I was making a joke mate lol
No, it does lock and there are buttons on the back like the old joycons so that you could take it off whenever
0:26 when I first heard it, the sounds hit my autistic brain like a chefs kiss
USB C on the Top AND bottom will be super nice.
Finally, ive been waiting for the ability to press buttons!
24 racers if you look at that starting grid in the first part of the Mariokart section
While they may seem potentially flimsy, the sleek black is a nice change from the neon ones from last time in my opinion
I’m not a fan of how only the part beneath the joysticks are colored. Just looks out of place at that point; there should either be a bit more or none at all
@@A_Professional_Idiot_mk.2 they shouldve done some color to the buttons
@@A_Professional_Idiot_mk.2theyre obviously gonna come up with more colors.
@@A_Professional_Idiot_mk.2 I like the colors personally. Has a sort of "rgb joystick" look. Also helps to distinguish left and right joycons.
@@bagel221 Yeah the buttons being colored would be nice.
how does everyone miss the fact the switch2 HAS TWO USB C PORT NOT JUST ONE, making it more versatile on how you charge it instead of being weird angled to charge it undocked.
That controller the joycons are snapped into place at 1:51 is gonna be uncomfortable, why would they do that…
It's the same controller that came with the Switch in 2017. Ye olde Doghead
“It better be better”
Theres a switch on the back of the joycon so it detaches if you press it. Its not going to be holding on by a thread the whole time.
this is amazing, pointcrow shoulld react to this
Someone mentioned that was Kalamari desert in the chat. It does resemble it actually…
