In this video, I go over how all students should use Anki and its various features. This is much more of a general overview, but I hope you find it helpful.
Download link for anki is here: www.google.com...
Check out my cousin's channel (made the intro): / @vinithd1687
UPDATED SEQUEL: ruclips.net/video/GTaIKlSTP4Q/видео.html (honestly this is next level sh**! It'll revolutionize yo anki game. Check it out!
oh how exciting! XD Thankyou so much for these videos, wishing you the absolute best with your studies!!! :'-D
Dude...super helpful. I love anki, but was great to hear your study techniques.
What is the add on you used to track your progress?
how can I customise my home screen like you with this green bar below shown in minute 10.20
It would have been interesting to know your daily routine. Do you catch up with each deck? I assume there are decks for each course/subject? etc.
anki cleared my acne, watered my crops, and brought my grandfather back to life. it's the greatest
Story of my life.
lol :D

Dp checks out.
hahahaha
Honestly the most helpful tutorial Iv'e found thus far. Wish I had learned about this program when I was a freshman and not my 5th year of college!
Some useful shortcuts:
Making subdecks w/o having to drag (incase you use the web version, or app) -
If the parent deck in this case is "Neurobiology" and your subdeck name is "Week 1", you should make the "Neurobiology" deck first, then for the subdeck "Week 1::Neurobiology". Using the double colon, "::" is used throughout Anki.
For example in cloze deletion you can use the double colon after your hidden answer to provide a hint.
So in the case of "What is the powerhouse of the cell? {{c1::mitochondria::organelle}}". When you see the card, it'll appear as "What is the powerhouse of the cell? [organelle]"
other keyboard shortcuts include ctrl+enter to submit a card when you're done making a card, ctrl+shift+c to add a cloze blank (substitute "command" for mac's), when in review mode: spacebar to flip/reveal card, hit 1(hard), 2(good), 3(easy) to rate a difficulty (I believe spacebar auto-defaults to 2 as well, when you have to rate it)
This is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing!
bless your soul
I had NO idea you can drag cards. I have dozens of subdecks within subdecks within subdecks and had to spend forever manually adding/removing double colons. I wish I knew this earlier, it would've saved a lot of time and headache!
New to Anki but am already feeling that there is an incredible degree of progress this short video has availed to me. Thank you for your contributions Prerak.
You’re the only person I know that actually shows how to make a good science card that someone would use, not just a simple example. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you for a clean, brief explanation without endless chat and lame jokes. I wish everyone on youtube would take a lesson from you.
Super helpful! Many of the videos in RUclips that recommends anki as a high yield learning tool but they dont touch on the process behind organizing and creating of useful decks. Thank you for this video🙏
That was my first introduction to Anki. I'm using it for something different, but your presentation was super-clear.Thank you.
I'm not kidding when I say this. This is a GOLDMINE of a channel. thank you. Studying for Human Physiology has made me stop studying completely because I fucked up the way I made flashcards (i.e. I copied long PARAGRAPHS in ONE card, and I did that for a lot of them.) You, sir, have revolutionized my learning capabilities and I thank you. This is superb and makes me want to study again. Keep making these videos!!
Wow. This ANKI flashcard tool is great! I have an idea on how to use it for nursing school and studying for the NCLEX-RN exam after completing my registered nursing program. Thanks so much for posting this video!
"Cloze" cards are no longer showing the "extra" or display images when added. In order to solve this please follow these steps:
in an empty cloze card, add a new field and name it "extra"
close the card and go to the main anki window and go to "tools"
select "manage note types
"
select "cloze
"
select "choose cards
"
at the bottom center choose "add field"
change field from "text to extra"
change "add to": from "front to back"
Press ok and try and see if works
awesome thanks! It worked :)
Thanks a mil!
Great! Thanks
it hasn't worked for me
when it comes to - select "cloze " then it doesn't appear - select "choose cards"
how can I solve it?
@@brandoarmas2659 Make sure you're on the Anki main file, and it says Cards on the right side like so, "Cards..." you should also see "Add" "Rename" "Delete" etc
This was actually the most useful video on anki for med students I’ve ever watched!
Thank you Prerak. This was a super helpful video to me. I never liked Anki before because didn't know how to properly use it. Now I love using it daily. You did a wonderful job explaining the most important features of Anki.
You are the first person to clarify and actually taught me how to use Anki. Thank you so much my friend 🙏🏽
Been following your journey for a long time now. Recently scored in the 90th+ percentile on my MCAT and am feeling really good about my chances at medical school and getting in. Hopefully in 2 years, I'll be in your shoes as a medical student preparing for STEP and working hard in my classes :)
That's awesome congrats! I'm currently studying for the MCAT. You got any tips for using ANKI with it?
CTRL SHIFT 4 will make a screenshot but it saves to your desktop, that gets annoying after 100 cards. CTRL SHIFT CMD 4 will just copy it to the clipboard so you can paste it into Anki and not have annoying files cluttering your desktop :)
Or Win+Shift+S on Windows 10 (activates Snipping tool) and you select a part of the skin... Directly go to image occlusion after that...
@@hssy2jrocker Thanks man
man thank you very much!!
believe it or not but i literally kept looking for your comment for like 15 minutes now cuz i just switched from windows to OS X and i remembered seeing your comments a while ago
thanks again !
Thank you soooo muchhhh
control shift 4, then before you drag and take a screenshot click control then while holding down control take the screenshot. Then you can paste it directly and it won't save on your desktop. This is for macs, not sure about pc.
Prerak your videos are so helpful! From your honest perspective on what medical school is like to amazing study tips, I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos!
Thank you so much, this is the first video I watched for Anki and I was feeling so overwhelmed with it. I feel better now thank you!!
Just wanna say you are ana angel! ❤️ i have watched 3 anki videos for beginners and still couldn’t create shit because I didn’t know how but i watched yours for 2mins and boom!
I just wanna say that in the book make it stick, the researchers say that cloze deletions, or blank words, create enough of an artificial difficulty that it aids in memory retention.
Kinda like reading a certain passage that is kind of blurry. It aids in retention of the information.
this video is amazing, I was doing my notes on ANKI exactly how you said NOT TO and I was finding it wasn't being effective so stopped and deleted all my work. As a first year dental student in the UK I have been looking for how to make more notes effective and you describe it really well in both your videos, THANK YOU :)
no one did ever explain anything like this it was simple and clear thank u bro
Want to give this video a thousand for actually explaining how to use Anki to someone who never heard of it. Other "tutorials" explain it like the viewer is already familiar with Anki.
Awesome video series, man! Keep up the great work!
Please tell us more about Anxi. I am computer illiterate, so your lesson today taught me a lot!
By the bye. Sorry if i'm being too obvious here, but what I use is "snipping tool" which is already in your windows computers instead of print sceen. With it you can frame excactly what you want, and then just copy/paste it directly into anki. Also, thanks for the info doc. Great video!
This was incredibly helpful. Huge thank you from a struggling M1!
No prob! Please share :D
Found this video at the PERFECT TIME. Thank you!
This was THE REAL guide!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING IT MUCH EASIER !
This was a great vid! I’m trying to use Anki for MCAT studying and found this super helpful :)
Thank you! :D
How did you do?
This was awesome! I'm studying for the MCAT and I'm excited to put these new tricks to good us!
Thanks for such a good straightforward video. I love using Anki, but hated making cards because I didn't do that well. this helps so much!!
Thanks a lot Prerak, I just start using anki, and this is a really useful tips.
I plan on making additional anki videos for specific concerns! Please comment below if you have questions, and I will try to make future videos to address it. :D Happy Anki-ing!
UR AWESOME!!!
does the custom time period help with that?
How much time you spend making vs. answering your anki flashcards?
How to read tables in first aid using anki in android
can you share your sets with others? is that a feature of anki?
Just got to 2:43 and slapped my head DOH! Didn't even know that's how you did that. Massive massive thanks.
This is really useful! Thanks for an excellent introduction Anki.
ive been trying to find an easy tutorial that i could actually replicate and this is ittt youre helping me with my japanese learning process thank you very very much :))
thankyou sooo much for this video ..... downloaded the app on my laptop and gonna try and reach ur level of organised flashcard series down the line !!!
Man, what a great and concise explanation this is!!!
Thanks a lot Prerak, ur old mistakes r my current ones now, so now imma go fix it
You sir are the best tutorial on youtube and i salute you for that
Hey another tip! If you don’t want to have a lot of screenshots on your desktop, you can press Cmd+Ctrl+Shift+4 and it just copies it on the clipboard 😊
I loooooooved this thank you for taking the time to explain, its helped me so much as a new Anki
I'd been struggling to learn Anki but this cleared it up for me perfectly! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much this was so helpful, last year i use this video and I was looking for it just now because i remembered it
Thank you for this! Im in school for Respiratory therapy but man I cant imagine med school students. Big props to you guys
It is sooo useful for a beginner. Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh man the Windows screen shot function is so much better than the mac. However the Mac has the Great battery life, and build quality. But its so much smoother to screen shot into anki on windows haha, they should fix that ONE thing. Hehe Great video btw thank you for this, im just getting into the Anki universe.
Intro was so great!!👍
TY, I am reviewing laboratory medicine and this helps A LOT!!!!
Pro tip: use command + shift + control + 4 and it will copy it to your clipboard so all you have to do is paste it in. This cuts down on the screenshots on desktop
Dude thank you.
You are a lifesaver
Great video bro! Keep hamasah💪
erm just got to your daily number of reviews and nearly fainted... what have I been doing with my life...
Thanks for this. I'm going to use this technique for my CCNA certification.
Really helped my a lot! Great video.
this helped me so much as a beginner. thank you
Thanks for all your tips!
cant wait to use this for a level psychology (:
Y'all can skip. Video starts at 2:03
Simple no frills and straight to the point!!! Thanks !! P.S. What is the powerhouse of the cell...lmao !!!
Thank you very much - this was very useful.
Hi! Great tips - thank you so much! Which add-on did you get to see your progress with those green squares?
Review heatmap
Great information. Thank you for sharing.
Your explanation is very good. Thanks.
Thank you! I like your explanations, I am sure you will become a nice doctor :)
I think this is going to help since I'm doing civil service examination. And we basically have to know a lot of dates, numbers, etc. and where they fit in. What do you think? It's the understanding, but we have to remember all of it.
2:28 This video is already worth watching since I was thinking of something like that, thank you xd
Do you know how to undo that though? :O
@@__effe_ you mean undo the subgroup? Just drag it out of the group it is.
seriously, thank you for this!
Thanks for all the information, Cheers from Perú.
very well explain. thankyou very much sir.
Indeed a great vedio
This was a great tutorial!
I've wasted my precious understanding how anki works. I make cards but everytime I review it same cards keep displaying repeatedly. The review ends without anyother new card!
Oh you simply add more new cards so that you will see the same previously displayed cards plus new ones from the max limit flashcards you've added this is due to the spaced repitition learning which imo is what makes anki sooo great!
You're awesome. Thank you so much
JAWDROPPING right now. thanks I'm gonna try this right away!
Amazing tips! Thank you so much!
Dude! i wanted to see the answer what the cocaine effects are!
thank you for your video :) very helpful
Thanks dude! My mother tongue grades have been falling
i really wish they would bring add one to the iPad pro. the iPad pro is a powerhouse.
Super video, thx man
Thanks for simplifying this
What do you do, if you can't take the laptop with you to the lecture? (Like having lab etc)
By the way, the "cut" screenshot Prerak did is Ctrl+Shift+S ;)
hello, prerak in this video you mention not to use cloze deletions without a question answer format, however the zanki cards were presented in such a way and not in a question answer format.
Nice video :) But you forgot to mention about those green blocks on your orginal Anki :O
What's the point of using cloze if you can just paste a screenshot on the back of the card along with the answer?
Do you follow a study schedule for your Anki cards? like, Monday I will cover all cardio cards, Tuesday all renal cards..etc. would be cool if you would make a video on how to how to cover each card in your deck and how to review old cards. I mostly see videos on how to make a deck or make additions to cards.
thank you, great tipps.
By reviewing 800-1000 cards a day, do you have time to study anything else, or is anki the main way you study and learn? Also, what are your thoughts on pre-made decks such as zanki. This video was extremely helpful!
Anki is pretty much the only thing I do. Even now, while I'm on my break, I do anki for 2-3 hours a day, and in school, I'd be doing it for 5-6 hr/day. :D Will be making a couple videos to elaborate all of this in the coming weeks.
800-1000 cards is too much. You should learn to condense your notes as much as you can and use other studying methods not just Anki!
Keenan this guy goes to Yale Med. I think he knows what he’s doing
@@fernank017 I think you should be quiet and mind your own business. You‘re not god.
Nice video and you are a Nice Person.
you deserve all the best my friend, thanks a lot you made it so easy so i was able to see how it works but i still have one problem is that the extra field doesn't show i've downloaded a the new a old version but still have the same issue please if you have an idea to fix that help me out
Superhelpfull, thank you so much, greetings from colombia
Great Intro to anki.. :D
How do you make anki flash cards for pathway/mechanistic information? For example, I’m currently studying the complement system and find that breaking it up into several flash cards leaves me really confused and I don’t have a great big picture idea of how it all works together. Thanks!
Next video will address this promise!
Use the Image Occlusion Add On
There's a photo editing software called Skitch that I use for memorizing pictures -- there's a video by Kevin Jubbal that explains this really well, recommend you watch that
What's the point of cloze deleting the entire answer? Seems like a basic flashcard with extra steps.
9:28....I do get it..But what about long text's answer they ask in exam??
Will the small large no. Of flash cards I make add up and will I recollect everything in exam??
Wouldn't a question like above itself will have a subdeck of itself? Won't it be ardous to open each subdeck?
Like in exam you have a question like "describe in brief about spinal chord"...
That isn't a single answer they ask for...That is collection of sentences..
I hope my question is clear
how do you make it show only the front side of the card? No one addresses it, the video about the states did not address it right. Everyone just tells you the basics that every knows
Have you used Anki for the GMAT? If so, could you please make a video on it?
Can you pls do a vid on all your Anki add on, which are the most helpful, and how you get them?
