  • And a hilarious irrelevant commentary provided by my friend as she films. If there were two things that never were ever meant to be together on the internet it would be this video, with my friend's phone call. And everyone just acts like it's normal day. Because it was. :) Does anyone know what Baby's 'official/birth' name is? Guess in the comments! If you can figure it out & I don't know you-- I will send you a small prize in the mail.
    This video was taken shortly after my friend moved in with me in... September 2009(!!!!) That's eight years ago!
    How old does that make Baby then?
    Old!
    You can probably see that Baby is far from the fine gentleman he is today and it offers a little glimpse into how difficult it might be if you ended up with a camel who didn't respect you at all to listen.
    Baby' is 2 and 1/2 years old in this video. His initial groundwork was completed by me long before. But like a teenager, he acted up plenty between about 1 year old and 3 years old or so.
    In this video, he knows what I am asking, he knows where he is going, he knows how to lead, where a halter, and he knows what I mean when I ask him to cush. He's just testing me. He's hoping my patience is less than his stubbornness.
    For a camel to see that weakness in you and the strength therefore being stubborn may provide-- they become almost insurmountable forces. They are not 'temperamental' animals as many will say. You just ran out of patience, before the camel did. And with camels, missing one follow through is going to cost you ten fold.
    They remember everything.
    If you start a command and ask a camel to lay down and he does not. You ask him again ten more times, maybe you yank his lead rope. He looks at you. You try again. He looks at you. And you just forget about it and walk out of the pasture to go in for dinner. You aren't going to like him at all in the morning.
    This is part of the reason camels have a reputation for being ill-tempered and intolerable among other things.
    I would argue t ha tit proves that most humans have the reputation for being impatient, unmotivated, and arrogant to assume they can pick up where they left off the next day after giving up the night before.
    Keep doing this enough times and you will end up with a dangerous animal. Created by the most dangerous animal of all: Man.

    I have a few more 'childhood' videos of Baby and Nessie from my friend I'll post. Wish I knew what happened to all of mine, but they probably went out with a Western Digital device. Which seems to be a company that maintains the standard to suddenly break once a decade and then we start all over again: with another Western Digital. :)

      Creek? Cave? Arizona?

      I will give a big hint away by saying that Baby came from Texas. The breeder is well-known and the web site can be found online. His name I believe came from the name of a location near to where the breeder has her camels.

    Have you seen the BBC series Skeleton Coast with Benedict Allen? He trekked alone with three dromedaries (Nelson, Jan and Andries) through the Namib desert. It made me love and admire camels for their loyalty and strength, but even more for their quirky characters and comic timing. Seriously, I swear camels have a sense of humour. Jan especially was like a naughty teenage boy.

    I've been watching your channel for some time now, it's has to be one of my favorites. Also, is the Raven you have going to be released into the wild. If he's not I have a name suggestion.

    • @camelsandfriends
      @camelsandfriends  6 лет назад

      No, she's captive-bred and an African species. I'm going to work with her and see if we get along well. :) I would like to keep her as a 'pet', but only if she is happy. Some birds would rather be aviary birds, which is what would happen if she didn't enjoy interacting with other species-- like myself and Sugar Tree.
      Just kidding no one enjoys interacting with Sugar Tree. :)

    • @ronnieklim952
      @ronnieklim952 6 лет назад

      Poor Sugar Tree :) I personally love ravens, but I can't even handle my sister's conure. So, for me, they're just one of those animals I like to look at in the wild. I bet she'll make a wonderful ambasitor animal. I also really enjoyed your video explaining why Lorne attacked you. You're very brave. And that video really helped me understand wolves and other animals who are in a similar situation. So, for that I thank you. And I was wondering, if you ever can get more animals, what would you get?

  • @Gantros
    @Gantros 6 лет назад +3

    I apologize if these have been addressed, but I'm having trouble following what has been going on the last few months. Let me see if I understand: Your ex-girlfriend was controlling and manipulative, things came to a head, you broke up, and some of your animals are no longer around due to retaliation on her part. Are your animals like Lorne, Pancake and Buttermilk simply no longer in your possession or did something more sinister occur? I'm just concerned and haven't found any clear answers in your videos, I'm also autistic and have a terrible time comprehending subtext and other subtleties.

    • @camelsandfriends
      @camelsandfriends  6 лет назад

      No, but the name contains the same amount of letters. From there you could probably find the answer indirectly off the internet, if you knew where he came from (which can be found directly on the internet somewhere- I'm sure).
      That should be enough hints to not make this totally impossible.
