Sleep Token are a British rock band from London. Formed in 2016, the group are an anonymous, masked collective led by a frontman using the moniker Vessel. They have been categorised under many different genres, including alternative metal, post-rock/metal, progressive metal and indie rock/pop. After self-releasing their debut extended play (EP) One in 2016, the band signed with Basick Records and issued a follow-up, Two, the next year. The group later signed with Spinefarm Records in 2019 and released their debut full-length album Sundowning, which was followed in 2021 by This Place Will Become Your Tomb.
Since their formation, Sleep Token have remained entirely anonymous - Rich Hobson of Metal Hammer explains that the members, who all wear masks and cloaks, "obscure their faces, they don't talk onstage, and they have only ever done one interview". The lead singer and primary songwriter of the band is known by the moniker "Vessel". The group's focus on anonymity and visual style have been likened to similar practices employed by Ghost, Slipknot, and Gwar. In 2017, Sleep Token's then-new label Basick Records published a description of the band which read, "A band that goes above and beyond simply writing and playing music, Sleep Token are said to be "the mortal representatives of the ancient deity known only as 'Sleep', led by the masked and cloaked figure appointed 'Vessel' ... the master creator behind the music." In the band's only reported interview to date, with Metal Hammer at the time of their signing with Basick, frontman Vessel expanded on the lore of the band, stating that "We are here to serve Sleep and project His message." When asked about Sleep, he stated that "He is everywhere, at all times. Vessel encountered Sleep in a dream, with promise of glory and magnificence if Vessel followed Him."
On the band's releases, Vessel is credited as "Vessel1" and listed as performing all vocals, guitars, keyboards and piano; a drummer dubbed "Vessel2" is also listed on both Sundowning and This Place Will Become Your Tomb, with producer George Lever contributing bass on both. The band have also uploaded videos showcasing the drummer performing several of the band's songs, each of which are titled "An Offering from II". For live performances, the core duo are joined by "Vessel3" on bass and "Vessel4" on guitar. Some shows also feature three anonymous backing vocalists.
Musically, Sleep Token have been categorised in a wide range of genres, including alternative metal, post-rock/metal, progressive metal, and indie rock/pop. Hobson has suggested that the band has a "fluid approach to genre", claiming that they incorporate "elements of everything from tech metal and alternative to pop and R&B". Similarly, John D. Buchanan of the website AllMusic has written that Sleep Token "combine post-rock, post-classical, and post-metal tropes with soulful indie pop vocals into a blend that sounds like nothing else". The band's label Spinefarm Records has simply stated that "in a world of form and genre, Sleep Token cannot be confined". The band have been vague about their influences, simply crediting "a plethora of artists" as inspiration; early in their career, though, they did name Leprous, Agent Fresco, Bon Iver and Meshuggah as influences. Commentators have also posited performers such as Deftones, Cult of Luna, Explosions in the Sky and Ólafur Arnalds as possible influences. [Wikipedia]

Huge Sleep Token fan here: All the videos are essentially visualizers, which they're known to do (the following songs have actual music videos: Thread the Needle, Calcutta, Nazareth, Jaws, The Love You Want, Alkaline, and Fall For Me). The symbols at the bottom left of each visualizer say the title of the song in a cypher they've been using for all their promo material. The Discord has almost worked out the entire alphabet at this point.
You'll love the journey. So much variety. Piano ballads. Acoustics. R&b, electronic. They just keep it fresh. My favorite band.
Ok, I concede. Sleep Token do be.
Welcome to the rabbit hole.

I’m here for every single sleep token reaction you put out
Fire band
I can hear the Imagine Dragons comparison to an extent. Sleep Token has been doing what Imagine Dragons has been TRYING to do. Like, big atmospheric pieces, the vocal effects, the r&b/hip hop roots behind the rock? except Imagine Dragons is so trapped in the pop realm that they never actually push the envelope as far as they could or the song needs. if Imagine Dragons did this song, it wouldn't have the drop, which is what actually ELEVATES this song, y'know?
Sleep Token could do Radioactive and it would SLAP SO SEVERELY, but Imagine Dragons couldn't do Granite, y'know?
Yeah, I definitely agree with that.
Perfect analysis. The similarities to Imagine Dragons are undeniable, but you are so right. ST has a much more compelling version of the same concept.
Worship!
I will recommand Alkaline too
That’s coming tomorrow :)
Good job.
THE OOOGA BOOGA man is coming
Would remove the identity of Vessel from the description. Much of the fanbase knows who he is and it’s general consensus that the information should be disclosed as little as possible to help maintain their ability.
Definitely check out Chokehold and Aqua Regia out of the new singles as well
Whoops, didn't even notice I left that in. Thanks!
Also, I recorded those two last night :) They'll be up soon!
Hi, greetings from the Netherlands. I enjoyed watching you reaction. I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Hve you ever listened to Nightwish? They are a band from Finland with a Dutch singer, Floor Jansen. She has one of the best female voices in metal today. She can sing with an operatic approach, pop, rock and even grunting. None of the Nightwish songs are alike. There are epic and melodic songs, but they can also go really heavy on you (like in the one I’m recommending now) and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy. Their music is exceptionally well composed and arranged. Their musicality is outstanding and so is their lyrical content. Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give the song ‘Yours Is An Empty Hope’ a try. It was recorded at a sold out Wembley (London) in 2015. You might be surprised.

But be warned… a reaction will probably trigger the Nightwish fans to come knocking…😊
Oh, I LOVE Nightwish. I used to listen to them, Epic and Within Temptation a ton ages ago but I’ve fallen off. I should catch up. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@shizzyreacts That's great to hear! All those bands are still very much alive. But Nightwish, especially with Floor Jansen, is absolutely worth catching up on. I'd love to watch you react to them! Take care.
