People from other card games, specifically paper tcgs, reading Zephyrs for the first time has quickly become one of my favorite things to hear

zeph isn't ai it's procedure engine. it simulates all possible boardstates and plays when it enters, and after it calculates it offers options

Suggestion for Rarran: in addition to the Hearthstone cards on screen, try to also put the Card that the guest is referring to on their game. For example, in this video at 22:30 CGB cites some Magic cards, it would have been good if they also appeared alongside Lumia

To be fair to the HS devs, V-07-TR-0N was a raid boss in Wrath of the Lich King, so the on the noseness was before their time & that boss fight was tight.
For anyone who wishes to know, Kil'jaeden with Myra's has a simple interaction. Kil'jaeden's portal is a 30 card deck of random demons that refreshes each time a card is drawn. Myra's would draw 30 cards, and then refresh the deck. This also means that Fanottem would be a 30 mana card at the start of each turn with Kil'jaeden.
Fanottem will always be 30, since it refills immediately to 30 after you draw. So you could play Myra's, Fanottem drops to 0, but then immediately the deck refills to 30 as the effect resolves.
Mark has shown you can fatigue someone with the Demon Portal tho.
@@trypich8121 Yes, but you need to draw more than 30 cards in a turn. Otherwise, it gets refilled back to 30.

Lumia is played in Holy Wrath Paladin in wild and is an absolute powerhouse in that deck which often secures the win as a second form of Time-out.
My guess would be that you attack and play it. If the opponent didn't have removal, you have a 9/9 lifesteal to attack and you keep using your other minions to trade and secure the board. If the opponent trades in to kill it, they lost most their board and you're at full HP again.
The question becomes: how easy is to remove a 9/9 on average?

Zeph's wish triggering Covert that badly was the gift I didn't know I wanted in 2024. Dude hadn't even figure out what the card did and had a full past trauma melt down of a wish IRL that didn't come true.

One thing to consider on Holmes is that he also does give you info. If you get the "card in hand" or "card in deck" wrong, it DOES tell you the right card. So it does have a little value even if you dont get the cards

I dont really know if Rarran thought about it, but showing a short 10-20 second video with what a specific card does (in this case Zephrys) will greatly decrease the amount of explaining he has to do, plus other benefits.

Agreed, and as you said it would have other benefits aside from just the explanation, a lot of cards are really cool in concept but it's the animation and the visuals that bring the whole thing together, like with the ryecleaver.

A couple of weeks ago I was playing Wild and my opponent played Devolve.
No kidding it transformed my board in Mimiron's Head and 2 other Mechs, and my opponent couldn't remove them.
I've played Hearthstone since Rise of Shadows and this was the most Hearthstone moment I experienced in all those years.
The YT algorithm has become really obnoxious about where it places ads nowadays. But it put one right after CGB made that noise from reading Myra's, and that is the funniest thing I have seen in weeks.
love it how after reading the ceaseless expanse card text there was a silence and then youtube decided to play me an ad and i started laughing at the idea that he was so stunned that it cut to commercials and then after the "commercial break" was over he rebooted and went: wow! wow!

The think about Ceaseless Expanse is that it gets cheaper really quickly. Which imo is easy to tell, just some quick math: If players play an average of 30 cards over 10 turns (that's low for modern HS), and draw 30 cards between both players over 10 turns, and also 20 minions die (1 on each side per turn, on average), then Ceaseless Expanse will already be reduced by 80.
That's a slow game of HS by modern standards. Just add 1-2 more turns, and it's playable. Then you get a 0 mana board-wipe that also comes with a 15/15.
All of that was low balling it. From what I have seen, Ceaseless Expanse will usually be playable around turn 11. Sometimes later, but I have also seen turn 9.
Its way better then that even in your situation, nearly every card in the game reduced its cost by 3. 1 from it being drawn, 1 from it being played and 1 from it killing something or being killed. By turn 5 ceaseless could be 0 mana but its usually by turn 7 -8.

Additionally, you have cards like Shadowstep, Zola, Synchronize, etc. That either let's you bounce the guy back into your hand, or get more copies of it.
Ceaseless becomes the ultimate control tool because of the fact he'll eventually be free, you just need to survive long enough to pull those shenanigans

Mark already made a video where he gave the opponent Kil'Jaeden so he could mill them enough that they mill while the portal is empty before the game checks the portal and refills it.
For those not aware, like the 2 in this video, Mimiron and the Voltron reference are directly taken from WoW where he is a raid boss.
I don't even watch any hearthstone or magic content normally but I always gotta watch you and CGB, you guys have such good comedic synergy
I've seen Lumia randomly pop out of more Gorgonzormus than be played from hand.
The only issue with the card is it costs 6. It basically has super taunt that heals you for at least 9 (unless they have something that does more than 9 damage in one swing they are literally wasting their time going face). It's also honestly "big enough" that it's usually really inconvenient or not possible to kill through straight up damage from spells.
@@amethonys2798 Could be good with rush, really good with charge. Instant removal + 9 HP swing (meaning you are now much less likely to die from a single hit), with pseudo taunt. Probably way too big of a swing though against aggro.

Love these videos. Something that might be cool in the future would be to show CGB and the viewers a GIF or something of the card being played, like Ryecleaver and Avatar of Hearthstone. Partly for clarity but also because some are just cool.

I think its would be nice to add important context for zephrus for yours future guests - while its obviously was insanely strong and cool, but it wasn`t broken, like people from outside can think, BECAUSE of basic and classic card pool limit, and this cards can be good or okay, but from approximately 2021 year they are kinda slow, so in terms of power lvl zeph is absolutely fair, not even busted. Thx for CGB on channel, hope to see him more!

One of the most fun videos to watch. I think such cards that have really interesting effects and gets you excited, what you could do with them is one of the best things about hearthstone. Still so many more to show, maybe in a second part?

A video I would love to see is rating cards with symmetric effects. Things like "kill all minions", or "each player draws a card", and so on. These can be surprisingly hard to evaluate, from being unplayable to actually really strong if you can somehow turn the same effect into an advantage for you and a negative for your opponent.
You *can* actually draw enough cards in one effect to fatigue even with Kiljaden's Portal in Wild. Mark demonstrated it in a video for those curious to see that "fatigue protection" nullified. = )

Small suggestion tho, maybe give your guests a video on top of your explanation for the “weird cards” (and maybe for the viewers too since some of them could come from non-HS background)
mimrons head was actually played in mech decks, but yeah it was more of a "it's not great, but if it does go off I win so opponent is forced to kill it."
My favourite win con back in the day was Thaddius as Res Priest, but it wasn't anything too fancy so I don't know it would be fun to show off Stalagg and Feugen in one of these videos
Executus was actually playable in wild. Rogues would cheat it out, play Tess, Tess would replay ALL cards they played this game which would include Shadowstep to bring Tess back and whatchamacallit give your hero stealth for one turn. From there you would simply spend the entire game untargetable and dishing out 8 damage shots.
Hey Rarran you probably already know but this is how Kil'Jaeden works (to my understanding):
Qhen you play Kil'Jaeden, you replace your deck with 30 random demons. Whenever you would draw a card, it replaces your deck with 30 random demons, and then you draw a card (or cards.)
So for unstable element, yiu would draw until you have 10 cards in hand, and then mill the rest of your "deck." But the next time you would draw, you'll get a new dexk of 30 random demons, so on and so forth.
No idea what happens if you draw 31 cards at once LOL

One of my favorite things about majordomo and rag is the interaction with rogue, specifically Tess Greymane
38:12 that's not what mechanically happens:
1) deck is gone and replaced with 30 random demons
2) each turn do it again with new bonus
3) you can still fatigue if you draw over 30.
You don't get a new deck every turn but every demon you draw gets replaced at the end of the draw phase
@@abrvalg321 Each instance, not turn. Myra's will draw all 30, then as soon as it resolves the deck goes back to 30. This also means in order to hit fatigue, you need to draw 30+ in a single action.
@@SunbleachedAngel the 30 demons change every turn, no matter how many you drew in a turn. The full 30 pool resets every turn to give it the bonus.
It's not every turn, it's every action.
That's why you can still fatigue Portal decks with the Shellfish + Tamsin + Phylactery combo. You stack up the deathrattles, trigger them all at once, and the grand total of cards they have to draw is done in one action. The infinitely refilling 30 card deck only protects em for 30 draws

23:30 Lumia is a staple in WIld, in Reno Paladin and XL Holy Wrath Paladin. She saves you against aggro, because they do not run hard removal, deck has a 61.5% winrate on HSGuru. So Lumia, is a great card in Wild it has always been played in Highlander Pala.
Seeing Majordomo again reminds me of the time I managed to become a 40 health Ragnaros with the priest quest, good times
In CGBs defense for the Zephrys confusion, the card is amazing on how inconsistent it is sometimes. I will never forget watching a Lt. Eddy video and Zephrys would not give him board clear against 5 massive minions because it didn't want Cooper to draw off Octosari deathrattle, even though it 1) would have burned cards for Cooper and 2) lethal was on board, even with the taunts offered.
Despite hearthstone being the only game in this cardgame tri force i haven't played the raran videos always end up the funniest.

Cunning Wish just sounds like the remote duel experience during early Covid where setups weren’t standardized so people would just slip side deck cards into their hand
There is a type of card in Magic that is sort of like Murloc Holmes, where you name a card, then search target player's graveyard, hand, and deck and puts all instances of the named card into exile.

Yeah and he didn't cover that if it triggers it eats ALL your mechs whether you have 3 or 7 they all get destroyed. Animation is sick though.

I play Lumia in Reno Paladin in Wild. As it turns out stuff like Quest Warlock really struggle at dealing with the card. It basically turns their deck off, if you time it well.
The whole setup of two experts in their own respective fields evaluating each other's things is so satisfying

I played mech rogue to legend back in the time of mimiron and I'll say my piece on mimiron's head - Yes, most of the time, it wasn't even a win-more card since you could reasonably argue you'd have near the same damage output if you'd simply kept your 3 mechs alive
However - Rogue, had shadowstep, saps and conceal - so it could conceal and reliably get mimiron to trigger, it had shadowstep to double up on voltron if one wasn't enough, it had sap to get any taunt out of the way not to mention the most popular 1-drop 2/1 get a spare part or the 3 mana 3/3 get +1/+1 and a spare part, fair few of the spare parts help dramatically, give a minion stealth, freeze a minion to stop a trade, swap a minion's attack and health, return a friendly minion to hand, even the +1 atk to mimiron was a cold blood's +4. And none of the cards are exclusively to help mimiron, so they're not dead cards either, conceal a strong board to prevent trades and push face, shadowstep any of the big battlecries like enhance-o-mechano, etc.
Now I'm sure outside of rogue it was just a fancy do-nothing card with a nice animation (and more importantly a great sound file)

45:33 in another card game shadowverse, there exists an 8 cost 8 attack and 8 health minion called deep wood anomaly that that has the effect of if it hits your leader, their health drops to 0.

Yeah Mimirons head was bad. But they kind of didn't really explain why. The big issue was that if you get to have 3 mechs on board at the start of your turn, you could likely win the game with those anyways and don't need Voltron. So the effect either never happened or the benefit was that you got to see a cool animation and got to taunt your opponent by defeating him with a shitty card.
Interaction with Myra's and Killjaiden is that it draws 10 demons then shows 20 demons destroyed and then you still have endless portal...

Before they nerfed Pipsi, Lumia saw play in Pipsi Paladin (late Perils in Paradise meta). It actually did work in that deck to keep you alive.
If they reintroduced the Duels Mode with the anniversary cards like Avatar of Hearthstone, Bob the Bartender, the Gift cards and the Epic Neutral spells as their own Expansion then I’m sure it would be everywhere in Duels especially considering Paladin had a 5 cost Spell Signature Treasure that turned all of your minions in hand, deck, field and those that are summoned into 3 mana 3,3’s then it would be used as often as possible to the point they either ban the card from the format or the anniversary set itself wouldn’t appear as an option at all.
You should do one were you cover the start of game effects and stuff like whizbang and maester
CGB needs to show him some crazy magic cards. Stuff like Sundial of the Infinite or Solitary Confinement or Standstill.
Mimiron's Head was pretty good as a win con with Time Warp during Ungoro Wild, but as time went on Time Warp got better ways to combo win the game
I refuse to believe it's been this long as CGB hasn't seen Zeph. There's just no way, he had to have been brought up by now
The clowns who released Entomb (Priest card) and Djinn of Zephyrs (for buff Priest) in the same Adventure of only two dozenish cards, and didn't fix them maybe EVER... also made Zephrys somehow. Context; Djinn duplicates spells cast by you on FRIENDLY minions. Entomb shuffled an ENEMY minion into your deck. For no reason at all, their spaghetti code felt that the target of Entomb was "friendly" and as such Djinn would also shuffle himself into your deck. It was never fixed before both rotated, and maybe not ever.
It really is giving monkeys typewriters and they'll eventually produce Shakespeare for the fact that Zephrys worked and without major issues.
I don't play classic HS or even arena anymore, but I really enjoy these videos!

I run Lumia in my wild Highlander Paladin list. Yes it dies to removal. Coupled with Spirit of the Badlands, you could play multiple copies. The effect shuts down damage-based combo decks. At the very least, when played at the right time, this has saved me by stalling out at least 1 turn, maybe 2 if they don't spend their turn removing it. Decent for control, good counter for combos, but very niche in it's application.
I used to run a not very good Rogue Mimiron's Head deck with conceal to get the proc and then cold blood and tinker's sharpsword oil to get enough damage on it for the OHKO. Very fun deck, won more than I lost with it, usually it was a mech yeti and an antique healbot surviving or similar that I could then throw Mimiron's Head and Conceal onto. Didn't take it very high though, obviously.
While I can't argue if it's strong enough for current Hearthstone, Lumia looks strong as a single card power level compared to old legendaries. I don't think it looks any worse than Rag Lightlord or Boom, mainly from coming out so much faster.
Murloc Holmes is very similar to the Yugioh card Mind Crush (guess if a card is in your opponent hand and if it is they have to discard it), where you can either wait for the opponent to play/add stuff to their hand or if you're a meta slave do an educated guess right away.
Myra's Unstable Element and Kil'jaeden Portal just draws until you have 10 cards in hand, then stops. Normally, Myra's draws up to 10 and then has a unique animation to "destroy" your deck (the element was unstable, after all)
Dunno what you have, Lumia is actually a pretty good card. It is/was very good in libram paladin. To be fair libram paladin isnt an insane deck, but got me to legend tho. And Lumia was a pretty fk good card there, because it stopped many more aggresive decks :)

Zeph doesn't read what's in your hand but he does read your hand size, and may give draw if you're short on cards.
To be fair, he's rarely used in that capacity since he's mostly in slow decks that don't have hand size issues, but I've seen it in my goofy highlander Zoolock.
Kiljaden is such an interesting card. It can only played in an extreme state of the game. Either the game has to be super slow so u can benefit the infinite value or super fast that u consistently reach fatigue and need an out
