Why U.S States Have Nothing In Common

  • The United States is, in many ways, a patchwork of 50 distinctly different states (not to mention Washington DC and several territories). Meaning that regional similarities in the U.S. can be significant, while states like California and West Virginia couldn't be more different. However, even neighboring states with heavy similarities like Kansas and Missouri, have far more in contrast than in common.

    I've lived in 5 states across the country and to say they have NOTHING in common is like saying you have nothing in common with your brothers and sisters. Just ludicrous on it's face.

    I don't think this video actually made any kind of point. All it did was restate obvious stuff, make broad generalizations, and barely touched on the point of the title.

    They have a lot in common, they’re all under the federal government control, the majority of people speak English, the majority people are American citizens, the majority people, drive a car to work, use the USD, etc and there’s way more. It’s true we have a lot of regional diversity, but that doesn’t make two different states 100% different.

    • @SomethingDifferentFilms
      @SomethingDifferentFilms  12 дней назад

      I did, it's because each state is isn't own entity; cutting the importance of proximity as each state (and DC) are in it for themselves. I will do a much deeper dive in the future and look at how state debt (and how debt works at the state level) plays a key role in the stratification. There are other reasons, and political gain and the corruption I touch on in this video are part of it to.

    The map at ruclips.net/video/s_rCltoJyuE/видео.html looks accurate, except the odd appendage over the mountains into the Albuquerque area (arid desert, basin and range but not great plains), and misses the Nebraska sand hills (great plains, not prairie to the east). But the rest including maps makes great points on how different factors produce what we see in the vast US, starting at the inequality map at 2:22.

      Thank you DesertDC, I recently started working with new animation software so that I can have more control over my maps (because I love maps), but it's a process of learning still.

    From WC, if you think we are poor and not developing, you need to come to the Tri-Cities of NE Tennessee, I don’t know what happened but growth is crazy and my house is now worth 5 times what I paid for it! Where did all these people with all this money to buy homes come from?!

      100%, in fact recent polls show American's look at ourselves at the national level first (not based on specific states), more so than ever before. However the states are still a massive patchwork that can make life complicated.
