This is one of the best deals for the money you can get. I saw another video where the player compared this to a Martin and a Taylor, and this guitar held up to the other two quite admirably, and when you factor in the cheaper cost of the Epiphone, you can't go wrong with it.
I've owned this guitar for about three years, and I am in love with the tone. It's developed so far into my sound with the songs i write. I have owned more expensive guitars and still haven't enjoyed the playing or sound they offer.
The concept of trying to take an acoustic guitar, amplifying it, and trying to keep it as "acoustic" as possible, is always an interesting prospect. You really come up with a different instrument altogether that has to be thought of as a different instrument to make the most out of it. Adrian Legg comes readily to mind as an excellent example of this. Cool stuff.
Wow. I'm left handed too and just bought the very same guitar and stumbled upon this looking for its electronics reviews. Been playing a Taylor for many years wanted something different that was affordable. And you're right, no instructions for the electronics, just gotta trust your ears. Haven't tried the stereo thing yet.
I own a ej200ce Vintage sunburst and absolutely love it's a beautiful well made guitar. Not a very big sound on its own as an acoustic but plugged in its great! The E-sonic system is great and you can get many different sounds.Pricewise you can beat it.
I have this guitar in Ebony right handed. It sound's great now, but it had a big problem with neck buzz on the pick up, it only took a little bit of a turn on the truss rod and it was fixed. I have never used it to play a show with yet and am getting ready to use it in Aug. I've used it with my pedal board processor and it sound's good with effect's also. For the money it's a really nice sounding, nice looking guitar. I put Martin 9's on it and it feels better with lighter string's (to me at least) because the action is so low. it was half pegged from the factory and I liked the action so I did it again with the lighter string's.
These are fantastic guitars. I have another from the Masterbilt range and it really is brilliant. Can't quite understand anyone not anyone not loving these especially for the money. Send it in stereo to two amps or an amp and a p.a. As Shane says way better than the system I had in a Custom Shop Gibson although I have to say it did reproduce the acoustics well in the guitar but it was 5 times the price of the Epiphone.
To me, I find all acoustics with pickups sounds like shite. They sound plastic and compressed. But "unplugged", ... amazing! Is it bad internet sound? Think not. Hard to transfer that acoustic sound into electric dito. More like that I believe. What is your oppinion out there folks?
Anders, they don't all sound bad but a lot of them sound tingy, if that's a real word. So when I'm buying an acoustic, unless it's a martin, I try to get one without electronics and do an after purchase install of an LR Baggs Anthem soundhole preamp. This product is the best of the best and it gives me the sound I'm looking for without a need for any extra pedals although LR Baggs has a cool vi preamp called venue di that is definitely worth the money and only enhances the sound.
Ya agreed and piezo pick ups are prob the worst sounding pick up to use...they quack for lack of a better word.....they are tinny and quack lol....use a mic and p.a speaker...or some one said that some keyboard speakers are fine but idk....I'd use a p.a and a mic
To me the minute you bring electricity in the mix...it ain't acoustic anymore....but with horns n tweeters a mic is as close as you'll get.....still tho...not acoustic
I see there's only one cable connected to the guitar. With that plugged cable you're using only the nanoflex pickup located into the guitar. So, moving the slider toward the nanomag pickup you're only decreasing the volume of the nanoflex. And you can't blend the sound of both pickups if both the cables aren't connected. I apologize if I said something wrong but this is what i've understood from other videos showing the eSonic 2 System. And the phase button is only needed to avoid the sound of feedback when playing at high volume. If you hear the noisy feedback sound press the phase button and it will disappear.
You are right about using the phase button to control feedback. But both pick ups are always available whether you play in stereo (which is jammin') or in mono (one jack). As Shane mentioned the controls can be confusing but once you get it down the sounds you can get out of it are pretty amazing.
I bought one of these epi's as a practice instrument to save fretwear on my 1st instrument but used it live and the esonic popped on my audience, it was like a gun going off! So I just keep it for home practice now.
I am just dealing into this acustic pickup stuff, because piezo only is not enought. It appears that the most advanced acustic pickup so far is Taylor ES-2, but this combined nanomag and nanoflex by a logic makes sence that it offers more. Is that so? Hard to find answers when it comes to shadows esonic 2 comparisons in 2024
I don't have this guitar (but I thought long and hard about it), but I do have the same p/u and pre amp system in my Epi DR-500 mce. Let me say this about the Esonic2 system; If yours is working good, like mine is, it can be a real blast to play with 2 pick ups and the stereo option. But, if like so many have claimed you get one that a) eats batteries like tic tacs or b) the stereo option won't work or c) just general problems with how it holds up, then go get the compatible Fishman presys and replace the old one. If you are buying an ej200 built after 2019, you probably get the Fishman with it anyway, because Epiphone stopped using the Esonic2. I know I'll be enjoying mine for as long as I can.
One of the most annoying thing that RUclips makers do, is assume that, funky background noise or tones while they are talking, is what the viewer wants. Very distracting. 👎🏻
I bought the same exact guitar and the preamp failed within a couple of times using it.There is a sizable amount of complaints on the internet about the esonic 2 preamp, check before you buy.
I have an Epiphone EF500RCCE with the E-Sonic 2. The E-Sonic 2 is a great unit. . . with an all-solid guitar. But regardless of that, I always prefer running all my acoustics through an external preamp (specially if you only use a piezo), like the SansAmp (I use the OLD, DISCONTINUED but GREAT Acoustic DI) and into a PA. I'd only use an acoustic amp if there's nothing else available.
Sounds decent. I actually like it better than most of the sounds coming out of amplified Taylors and Martins. But there are too many variables to really know.
Great video .. this is one of the few videos that really explains the esonic2 pre amp .. I have an epiphone DR-500MCE and I have such a love hate relationship with it .. I have the guitar and vocals going into a Yamaha mixer and then a single harbinger Vari PA.. I can never seem to get the guitar to sound right . It’s always so damn loud and a bit boomy and for some reason when I record , the high E always has this weird twang to it and it’s from the guitar pre amp .. my esonic2 pre amp is the newer model so it’s a bit different but the same philosophy.. this is a dumb question I’m sure but when I’m playing would u recommend me using the EQ on the guitar or using the EQ on the mixer ? Even the PA has its own EQ.. it’s a beautiful looking guitar but after 2 years I have still yet to get it dialed in ..
Hi shane, thanks for your review of this guitar. I bought mine probably last two years ago. But i have encountered a problem with regards to the pick up this time. When i press the tuner button, usually the led light will light it up and goes to red ready for tuning...now it does not work at all. I have a new change battery.... how can i able to do this... any suggestions folks
I have this guitar and I like both of them for different situations. For light picking kind of situations I like the mag. For heavier stuff I like the flex one. Although for the majority of what I play I use a blend of both. What he doesn't go into is you can run two different amps off of each pickup if you wish and make some pretty neat sounds with them.
For the scratch its amazingly nice. I have a Gibson J15 and like it more... but at 3x the price I darn well better! For an inexpensive acoustic you can't do much better.
Am I wrong if I say that there wasn't any sense to move the slider to the nanoflex side if the jack was plugged to the nanomag input? In fact moving it the volume was going completely down ..... For what i think sliding between nanomag and nanoflex is right only when you have 2 jacks inserted in the same time to keep both microphones activated....
That "pop" when you switch phases is unacceptable, my DR500MCE don't do that but I have the esonic2HD maybe that's why. I just ordered a ej-200sce hopefully it don't do this, hopefully it's only a fault in yours! 😃 thanks it's always good to know everything good and bad about a guitar before receiving it. Still the king of the flat tops! Today I played a ej-200sce and a j-200, there wasn't enough difference between the two to justify the price of the Gibson.
I was worried about the plywood back and sides but after hearing it played it seems the best value acoustic out there.ive been purchasing used guitars trying to find a bargain on ebay and im happy with none of them. found this amazing old alhambra Spanish guitar from the early 70's, as light as a feather with cracked sides , cedar wood real beauty. The phase switch is to help overcome feedback issues.
Like, if you're getting feedback at volume in a live setting, press it in and - hey presto! Feedback reduces!
Correct. The phase button simply inverts the sine wave, it makes absolutely no difference in the sound but it eliminates feedback entirely.
I thought so, it doesn't sound like the Peter Green type phase
It changes the sound
I have one,I love it.The only problem J have with the guitar is the pick guard flowers peel off.

what the different between ej200 CE epipphone vs the ej200 SCE epipphone. ? and what pick up do you use to make sound like 12 strings
