- There are more than three thousand asylum seekers living in tents at police stations across the city. Congressman Jonathan Jackson addressed the crisis with a town hall. Dozens turned out for the event at the South Shore Cultural Center. Congressman Jackson says more reliable housing needs to be made available as temperatures drop.

Legally it is not any taxpayers problem. Trump pulled the US out of the "non-binding" UN migrants treaty. Under that treaty illegal migrants would receive essentially the same benefits as citizens of the country. Trump saw through that treaty and got the US out of it. Under US federal law illegal migrants are not entitled to anything which is why they are showing up in large numbers in the "sanctuary" cities.

Closing the border might stop the migrant invasion, but it wouldn't totally solve illegal immigration in general. To do the latter you must police the interior and allow everyone found illegally residing to be thrown out, no exceptions for so-called good behavior. You also have to institute E Verify nation-wide to keep them off our jobs. You also need to eliminate birthright citizenship which was never the intent of the law pertaining to that.

I was at this town hall meeting. This was my first meeting in Chicago, and things got really heated especially towards the end of the meeting.
Please, Mayor, talking about Venezuela's "great depression," how many millions of Americans were able to have their migration/escape from their home country arranged for them during their great depression? Answer: none. They were stuck in difficult circumstances with themselves to rely on. The US cannot possibly take in and support indefinitely all those who have/will make their way to the US with assistance from UN agencies, banksters, traffickers and corrupt governments and politicians taking their cut of the profits.

If he had not done that, it would've continued being incredibly lopsided. And you do know that most of the people coming over here right now not from Mexico so this is just stupid. I'm not opposed to immigration, but I want people to come legally, and the fact that a communist country chose communism and then screwed up there economy isn't a basis for asylum. It's just not. Asylum is for people who are being persecuted and all they're doing is creating a system where these people will have children here by the time they have the court case and then you won't ever get rid of them. Do you know that we end up subsidizing illegal immigrants not only through all their lifetime and the lifetime of their children, but through most of the lives of their grandchildren before we ever get to a point where they're contributing as much as they're pulling out of the system. Do you want to be carrying an extra 50 million people on your back because I sure as hell don't and I don't think that's fair to struggling people. I might be a white Gen X her, but I'm also disabled and it seems to me that a lot of people are in the same struggling category as I am. This only makes it harder for people like us to get help.
