دعا ۔۔ از فیض احمد فیض
آئیے ہاتھ اٹھائیں ھم بھی
ھم جنہیں رسم دعا یاد نہیں
ھم جنہیں سوز محبت کے سوا
کوئی بت کوئی خدا یاد نہیں
آئیے عرض گزاریں کہ نگار ھستی
زھر امروز میں شیرینی فردا بھر دے
وہ جنہیں تاب گراں باری ایّام نہیں
ان کی پلکوں پہ شب و روز کو ھلکا کر دے
جن کا دیں پیروی کزب و ریا ھے، ان کو
ھمت کفر ملے جراءت تحقیق ملے
جن کے سر منتظر تیغ جفا ھیں ان کو
دست قاتل کے جھٹک دینے کی توفیق ملے
عشق کا سر نہاں جان تپاں ھے جس سے
آج اظھار کرے اور خلش مٹ جائے

This is one of favorites from Faiz...though picking one from the gold mine of Faiz's nazms is impossible. Hum jinhe ras e dua yaad nahi...such a profoundly meaningful line!!

The poetry of Faiz is both inspired and inspiring. Iqbal Bano has infused the words with so much feeling that it jolts the conscious. The fact that he wrote this poem on the independence day of Pakistan in 1967 should have some meaning. Has his prayer been answered even in a small way?

Neither Pak nor India are better today than they were before 1947. The whole struggle gave nothing to the common man.
In the last 8 years, India has gone down much more rapidly.
