What I find funny about the Onyx guards they’re supposed to be battle hardened gears with the best equipment and gear but every time we encounter them in gears judgment and gears 3 they’re complete push overs getting beaten by standard locust losing both Azura, onyx point and their counthouse base in halvo bay to the locusts
It’s a result of them having degraded in strength throughout the course of the Pendulum Wars. Take a soldier off the front lines immediately after training, give them top notch equipment, good food, clean water, and luxurious surroundings, and they’ll eventually become just as soft as the common citizen. It’s demonstrated beautifully in Frank Herbert’s Dune with the slow decline of the Sardukar; those guys were meant to be unbeatable too, but years of living in mansions and eating roast lamb crusted with crushed diamonds had made them so damn soft that a handful of desert hermits could hand them their asses on a platter without even putting in a minimal effort.
Did I expect to watch an hour and twenty minute video about COG lore at 2am? No. Do I regret it? No. Will I in the morning? Well, I obviously don't think that far ahead.

I know it's not your usual kind of video, but I think you should do a ranking video of ALL the maps in the Gears franchise, since I haven't seen anyone else to ever do it
Maybe the cogs navy were occupied by locust naval forces or leviathans and had to handle their own battles or something. That, or Cliffy B never thought about it in the writing lol
To be fair they had the hammer of dawn which would do way more damage than any bombardment from any warship. But ultimately because you can only get so far with that. Billions of people died on E-day and humanity never really got a foothold after that. Ships only have so much range and locust were an enemy that mainly fought from underground so they could easily have avoided any shelling for the most part

Man I used to be an Xbox player but I switched to PlayStation so I have a hard time saying which is better but gears of war is one of the Xbox games that I miss so much I remember when I was young me and my brother played the one where you need to go into the hollow and you had those giant vehicles and when the corpser popped out we were panicking because it was just basically eating our bullets

The COG being socialist makes total sense because a government has to be authoritarian to seize the means of production and commerce from the people. The COG actually looks a lot like a more sympathetic early 1940’s Germany in terms of rationing, military indoctrination and leadership structure. The willingness to cast aside and then use its own people is also very alike.
I do like the cog as a milletary structure has some effectiveness and as the games progress you want to see more of the pendulum wars instead of what they dod from judgement to gears 5. The sequels arent canon for my love of the trilogy. The lancers are one of my favourite weapons with the mark 1 retro lancer actually being my favourite one when replaying gears 3 on insane. I just wish for judgement we got the retros on judgement with explination and made the stiry so that during the end part the mark 2 lancer is introduced. These games are a vital part of my gaming life these were my first xbox 360 games and i fell in love with them more in my teens and wouldnt stop playing then. Our highschool even had a contest on who was the best player in vs matches. I won a few but one player would destroy us all. And through my channel i have now become a true fan by beating 1 to 3 on insane.
While I do appreciate COG aircraft from both the Pendulum Wars and Locust War being present, if Hivebuster armor from the Swarm War was in the video, then why weren't the Kestrel drone helicopter, Condor transport plane, and Vulture bomber not included?

The lightmass missile reminds me of the H.A.V.O.C. Doomsday device from Evil Genius 2 a nuke that used compressed atoms which were released upon detonation for maximum well...havoc. I hope the newer games give you a custom character to play as imagine a game set during the Pendulum Wars where you pick your side and weaponry oh the possibilities...
I always enjoy watching these videos because I always end up learning something new that makes the gears universe make more sense. Back then when Gears 4 had first came out I was a bit thrown off by the swarm just by the way some of the creatures looked but after I got the lore hookup from King Abz, I realized that they were just new development stages of the old locust that had their imulsion crystalize on their skin because of the imulsion countermeasure weapon. The snatchers are all the reavers that had survived Jacinto because of their tentacles, and I believe that they`re the ones that create the pod around the victims while they`re ''snatched'' and they just eventually drop the pods. Because of Dr. Niles Samson, the locust were the perfect hybrid so it`s technically always going to find a way to survive, so by using humans it basically melts us down and uses our energy to make another organism with locust dna. To be honest those gears that survived the locust war should`ve just burned the bodies instead of just dumping them away. Yet again it didn`t really matter since the COG themselves basically funded it by mistake. I`m always gonna love gears no matter what because of all the deep lore that I learn here. And don`t even get me started on Halo.
5:00 It’s also heavily implied that the COG aerial capabilities had been essentially neutered by the efforts of General Jod Lombard, who insured that a dedicated COG Air Force would never reach fruition, and that research and development into other forms of aircraft beyond helicopters, particularly fixed-wing strike craft (namely the Petrel strike-fighters) would be shut down. Undoubtedly as a reward for his efforts, the Aiglar helicopter company gave him a position on their board of executives
In gears 4 they bolstered the swarm troops with osmium dust, dunno how that worked tbh and it wasn’t explained as to how (not to my knowledge anyway) I think they just tried copying the Kantus’ healing. But yeah in Gears 5 that wasn’t the case with the scions, probably an oversight or they just scrapped the idea.
