You're so right about the DDT. It was such a great finishing move. No one ever kicked out, like nowadays

Jake's DDT in the 80's was a true finisher, don't remember anyone getting up after that.
Now wrestlers do 10 finishers in a row and they still kick out.

Sting should have won the WWE title from Seth Rollins back in 2015 in my view because it would have made Sting one of the few wrestlers to win the World title in multiple companies & the only wrestler to hold the World title in WWE, WCW & TNA. However since Vince wanted to totally bury WCW, it didn't happen & in fact that match with Seth Rollins was Sting's final one until he debuted in AEW in 2020. At least AEW gave Sting a proper retirement run & didn't bury him like WWE did.

I think the DDT becoming normal had to happen though, a lot of older finishers have become normal. Hulk hogan’s “leg drop” and ultimate warriors “splash” are also good examples of this

If you are just counting the WWE Championship, I have a couple names I'd throw in:
    Dolph Ziggler
Chris Benoit (Yes, I know what he did)
    Jeff Jarrett
    Booker T
    Kevin Owens
    Wade Barrett
    Christian
    Razor Ramon/Scott Hall

You're right about Owen should've having won the belt at some point, but during the Montreal Screwjob time, Austin was building momentum to where it would make sense to have Michaels lose the belt to him and no one else

Can't argue with that list. For me, Owen and Hennig are 1-2, with maybe Rude as 3, but I could go with Piper. The problem was that if it wasn't Hulk Hogan hogging the title, it was usually some other showboater. In Hennig's era, it was Hogan. In Owen's, it was either The Rock, who despite his popularity was more along the lines of Hogan as an in ring performer, or the fact that he wouldn't pretend to cheat on his wife, so Vince Russo and co decided to make an example of him, leading to his demise. I completely understand that Bret Hart doesn't want WWE to own footage of his brother. Fans and their kids should be able to enjoy The Rocket/Black Hart/King of Harts' matches whenever they like without copyright issues. Everyone remembers Owen dropping the golden goose, Steve Austin on his head, but primarily, he was a phenomenal and safe wrestler. He was Bret with some of the more athletic moves that you saw in Japan in the 90s. Depending on the day, I'd go back and forth on who the greatest wrestler I ever watched was between Bret and Owen. But of course, Hennig and Piper are up there. Wrestling isn't just about showboating or even the moves. It's about telling a story in the ring. Pretty much all of my top 5 matches feature Bret. If it's not Hennig, it's Piper, or King of the Ring 1993 or WM13 with Stone Cold. It's a shame WCW couldn't book matches or that guys like Piper, Owen and Hennig didn't get their just due because of politics. Ask Ken Shamrock about that. He could have been WWF champion but was blacklisted after Bret left for being a Hart guy.

"The Streamer" in this era would be some guy (or gal or other) on Twitch or other internet tube who'd come to the ring with a mic attached, possibly can headphones, a silver or platinum RUclips plaque (as a weapon) and would interact with the fourth wall during matches thanking them for superchats.

I heard the original plan was to put the belt On Ted DiBiase after WrestleMania 4. Hogan was going to do the favor for him for Dibiase doing the favor for Hogan when in came in the WWWF in 1979. They had a match and DiBiase really put him over.

  • @tendresseak27

I think too many people win the big one these days. It's almost a prize for being there a long time. The fact that there are 2 world championship doesn't help. So many guys have world championships in WWE simple because there are 2 world titles. So many wrestlers would have never been world champions in the old days.

  • @AndreAdams-j6n
    @AndreAdams-j6n 5 дней назад

Back in that era, it was difficult to take it off Hogan because he was so hot. You had to be careful how to take it off him, but they did it well.

@@christhornycroft3686 including DDP & Sting (though in Sting's case it wasn't until he joined WWE in 2014). DDP was screwed big time when he joined WWE because instead of making him a main event star like what WCW did, they gave him that terrible stalker gimmick & a mid card feud with the Undertaker which was totally dominated by the Undertaker & killed all of DDP's main event status.

Bam Bam could of been great.
    Scott Hall
    Sheldon Benjerman Again terrible promo.
Had prime Sting would of went in 92 to 96 he would of been champion.
Aleister Black, WWE really dropped the ball there he could of been the next undertaker type figure.
