The system really failed Susan and her two sons...she basically said if anything mysteriously happened to her, Josh probably did it....Josh knew eventually he was gonna go down for his actions sooner or later and his kids were gonna get taken away from him too so he chose the most cowardly way out. Makes me sick 🙄

DA in this case is responsible for the deaths of these boys, lead detective wanted to arrest Josh immediately, but stated DA said no, wanted to wait 12 months, etc., and don't get me started on the 911 operator
Sounds like a marriage gone bad, terrible that it took the life of the two kids.
I don't remember him killing his 2 boys. But I am sure he killed Susan and dumped the body in a mine shaft somewhere. I like 60 Minutes Australia better, you get the full episode from start to finish. I don't like to watch bits and pieces first time I fall for this. Good story but not good if its going to be in episodes.

I knew them when they were first married. Susan was a ray of absolute light. Josh had a dark cloud following him. The last time I saw her, she was heading to Utah. I saw her in the South Hill mall, where she worked. I kissed her belly and talked to the unborn baby, the firstborn son.
I actually knew him first. I know more.

I’m honestly not sure if it’s safe to get married. My dating life so far has lead to this plea, “I’d prefer if you didn’t cheat but if you do please use protection I really don’t want to catch anything.” Do I need to add, “if you don’t want me anymore please just go rather than murdering me”?
Tip: Get off the internet and you will be surprised how normal people are in life. Also don't date/marry anyone who spends more then a few hours a week surfing the internet.
The fact she was the breadwinner was the first red flag. Bless her heart.

I'm always surprised how many people stay in relationships when those relationships have gone toxic. I've seen so many stories where one partner indicated that they think their partner might try to kill them, but they stay. Or after lots of clues and warnings, they still refuse to believe they are in danger. Married or not, get out!
How do you marry someone you have known for less than 3 months? This right here is exactly why you should take a very long time to get to know someone.

There’s so many horrible aspects to this case; so I can’t call it the worst or the saddest. Maybe the most haunting thing in this case is that at this point, all Susan would want is to be buried with or near her boys. And she’s not

@ExposingMiLabs not debating that women do kill partners as children however the number is significantly less. In the U.K. from April 2014 - March 2017 3 quarters of people killed by a partner, ex partner or relative were women (stats sort from bbc Reserch), plenty of this information around, simple facts.
Such a sad story. Susan deserved so much better than this coward of a husband. I still hope that they will find her one day and put her to rest with her little boys.

Why is it that year after year we learn of some stunningly tragic story of a Mormon man killing his wife? I didn't realize until I read comments below that he also killed his sons and himself. It's beyond words for me to comprehend.

How can he cash in her retirement savings and claim his wife is still alive? Doesn't make sense; if the wife is alive then she can cash it in, but he can only gain access to that money by obtaining a court order.
The days of "no body, no crime" went away long ago with advances in forensic science and case law development. The DA was right, initially, when taking a conservative, low risk position and a wait & see what develops mindset. That was all changed by the husband, whose guilty mind was followed by guilty behaviors, such as cashing in her retirement, packing up their belongings and the kids then leaving town, plus the timeliness of the life insurance policy purchase, and the son stating mom went camping too, but didn't come back afterwards.
Once you incorporate physical evidence like her cellphone being found and whatever records you (as the detective) obtain from serving a subpoena on her cellphone service provider, you're very, very close to being comfortable with the reasonable person standard that he is directly involved with his wife's sudden vanishing and more likely than not, that she has been the victim of a homicide committed by her husband.

They’re with their mother now. A social worker brought them to his house for a visit and he pushed her off the porch, dragged the kids inside, attacked them with a hatchet and then blew up the house.
