    I find your string reviews to be spot on. I have tried probably 75-80% of what you have reviewed so far through my years of playing.

    Hi Michael, I enjoyed your review! You are hilarious. About gauges, in this case - the Evah light-tension strings still aren’t particularly low in tension and I’ve enjoyed them for a long time - they seem to be to be something like how Perpetual Cadenza is to Perpetual.

    That's super cool to see the spectral analysis with an explanation. Would definitely like to see this type of testing expanded to other strings too! See if the commonly espoused beliefs about certain string characteristics ring true in the spectral analysis.
    BTW, what's the song you're playing at 2:35?

    I use these strings on a regular basis to complement my violin's darker sound and that thick sounding g string that I love is indeed like a hot knife through soft butter or the other way around! And the gold plated e string sounds a lot like chiming a bell, like you said!

    I recently changed my old worn Eva Pirazzi set (put on new on the instrument by the seller last year) to new Dominants. I realized I had been spoiled by the Evah Pirazzis. The new G string is so muddy compared to the Eva Pirazzi. I am hoping the new Dominants get broken in over the next month, or at least that my ear gets used to and appreciates the "warmth". It's $$$ to throw these away and buy new Evah Pirazzis.
    I think this is my instrument has a "dark" sounds and needs the Evah Pirazzi clarity to balance it.

    I'm currently using this in green, if this is a bit too bright for my liking, especially on E, what could be the next alternative to get a warmer, darker yet with similar projection? Thanks in advance

    Eva pirazzis are the finest violin strings I have ever played. I was raised on eudoxa gut, and had a fine 110 year old Sears cremona copy. The violin I learned on had always since my gradfather sent it up from Oakland Calfornia had glue cracks. My ear was used to the ring of 110 year old spruce. That instrument had since I owned it never used steel core strings except the e string. I never used anything other than Eudoxa gut strings. My replacement violin which is blond has none of the glue cracks that my former violin had. My former violin is gone like the song says, dreadful sorrow Clementine. She served me well and I wish I HAD HELD ONTO HER, BUT I WAS CARELESS. I PLAY A VIOLIN THAT IS PERHAPSE ALONG THE DESIGN OF A LONG SRAD. BUT MAY BE MORE FOLK THAN CLASSICAL. I HAVE PLAYED STEEL STRINGS ON HER, I HAVE PLAYED PASSIONE BY PIRASTRO, WITH EXCELLANT FIRST RESULTS AND PLAYED THE THEME FROM THE VIRGINIAN A 1960S TELEVISION SHOW. AFTER 1 DAY THE TONE DETERIORATED. IT MAY HAVE BEEN I WAS TUNNIG TO A 440 AND OVER TIGHYENED THEM, BUT EVENTUALLY THE A STRING BALDED OUT AND A GAP WAS NOTICED. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE EVAS ON FOR 3 DAYS. AT A 410HZ. I HAVE TRYED TO KEEP THEM AT THAT TO PROTECT THE WINDINGS OF A STRING. I HAVE LET DOWN AND RETUNED 2 OR 3 TIMES DURING BRIDGE CHANGES. SO FAR EVAS HAVE BEEN FORGIVING. LAST NIGHT I PLAYED AS GOOD AS NEW, BY ABBA. I WAS AMAZED, THE PURAZZIS GAVE THE PHIHARMONIC SQUELTCH! I ADORE THEIR TONE. I AM SURPRISED FOR A SYNTHETIC STRING, THEIR CLOSENESS TO GUT! THEY HAVE A PURE RASPYNESS THAT BOARDERS UN CANNY! THEY ARE AS CLOSE TO SILK AS I HAVE EVER BEEN GRACED TO PLAY! I HAVE NEVER PLAYED ON SILK VIOLIN STRINGS SO I SAY THIS TONGUE IN CHEEK. I HOPE TO PLAY A SET OF SILK VIOLIN STRINGS, BUT IF I NEVER DO, THE EVAS I PROJECT, WILL SERVE ME WELL. I WILL SEE IF THEY LAST ME A MONTH. OF CIURSE I MAY TRY AND FIND SOME OLD EUDOXAS WHICH I HAVE PAPERED WITH OLIVE OIL AND WRAPPED IN OIL TO REJUVINATE THEM, HOWVER I AM DOUBTFUL THAT GUT CAN BE REJUVINATED.I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL VIOLINIST. I WAS A MEDIOCHER STUDENT, BUT LOVED THE VIOLIN. AND WANTED VERY DEARLY TO BECOME A CONCERT VIOLINIST. MY MOTHER MADE ME PRACTICE IN THE KITCHEN WITH A MUSIC STAND. I WAS TAUGHT BY THE SUZUKI METHOD, READ MUSIC HORRIBLY SLOW, AND AD LIBBED IN 3RD ROW AT SPRING VIOLIN CONCERT IN 4TH GRADE. WHAT MADE ME COME BACK TO THE VIOLIN AFTER 40 OR MORE YEARS? I GUESS I GOT TIRED OF TUBE AMPS FRITZING OUT, AND THE ENORMOUS WEIGHT OF MY LES PAUL GIBSON. THAT I SORELY MISS, BUT IT TO IS GONE. I PLAYED NORWEDGIAN WOOD ON IT ONE SUMMER AND DELIGHTED MYSELF WITH A DOD PRACTICE AMP. SO YES IVE PLAYED OTHER INSTRUMENTS. BUT NOTHING HAS AFFECTED MY VIOLIN PLAYING MORE THAN EVA PIRAZZI VIOLIN STRINGS. FOR ME THEY ARE THE HOLY GRAIL OF BIZZANTIUM! I APPLAUDE PIRASTRO AT THERE CREATION, AND THINK THEY MUST HAVE SPENT MILLIONS DEVELOPING THEM, BUT I COULD BE MISSTAKEN. AFTER ALL, THEYER HAND MADE. AND I LIKE THAT. BRAVO MRS. PIRAZZI, BRAVO! AND GRAZZI!!!!

    Thank you for your video! I’m overdue for new strings and I used to play on Evah Pirazzis. I was experimenting with different strings so my A and E string are different, and somehow I fell in love with the combination. Honestly, I’m horrified about buying new strings and hating the sound. I’m debating between the Amber Warchalls or the Evah Pirazzis. Any thoughts ?

    • @Fiddlershop
      @Fiddlershop  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for watching! That's a great question! Honestly, any of the two are great options. If the combination works for you, I wouldn't change anything. But if you are looking for something different, experimenting is the only way to find what works for you. I prefer my A and E strings to be bright and the G and D strings to be dark. Bright G and D strings sound gritty to me and I don't like how they feel under the bow.

    But if they are very bright, isn't that actually good bc you can use them even if they get very old? Bc they won't sound dead, right??

    • @Fiddlershop

      Yes, they're a very lively, powerful set of strings and can really bring an instrument to life. My only concern is they might cost more than the thrift store fiddle itself cost! 🤣

    so why are you using a expensive professional string on a student quality instrument? I mean all the strings sound the same to me. I don't hear a difference at all in regards to all the strings you are reviewing.
