    I "discovered" @Fiddlershop content about two weeks ago and have been devouring them since. Michael has me convinced Fiddler Shop needs to be my destination for my next violin. I've had the same 1920s era Rudolf Sofron violin since high school and 30 years later I i really hope to upgrade! Keep up the awesome work!!

    This video prompted me to buy the PI strings and they are a find.I just put them on and they seem to have settled in .They have a smooth open feel and really good response.The tone is a bit like Dominants but with more possibilities and a shade less bright.The silver D has ample projection and the tin E is also without blemish.My 925 violin is on the darker side, but less so with these strings.Larsen Virtuoso was a benchmark by which I judged others on my violin, and if anything, I like them even more.Thanks for leading me this way!

    I have researched a bit on violin strings in the past, and found I am very picky. For my past violin I just went with fiddlershop's strings cause I didn't really care for any of the brands, and the price and tone were great for the violin I had. I bought this violin with these strings on them, and didn't realize what strings they were until now. I haven't researched this price range of strings, and my new violin definitely deserves the price range, but man, shocked by the price, but I love these strings, so nice to have a breakdown. I thought it was my violin that had such a great projection, but now from hearing him describe the strings, he is right, they are loud then, but in a great way and perfect for playing in concert halls. In my case I am playing with a band and am hooked up to an amp, the pickup I use dampens the sound quite a bit, but they still project well even then. I recommend them, and I will probably not change brands in the future.

      I am coming from times when EUDOXA was near the SUMMIT of violin heaven. But now - with informations of "Michael explaines it all" I had wonderful experiences with Larsen "Il Cannone" and with Warchal "Amber" (which I put on reserve just in case for the small ensemble) - and now have the WONDERFUL problem, to make a decision for my 150 years old Bohemian violin "without certificates" whether to choose Evah Pirazzi Gold - which IS wonderful - and Thomastik Infeld PI Platinum p100" which INDEED gives a special PITCH (of FOCUS) over the orchestra - which but I will have to check against the SINGING qualities of the Evah Pirazzi Gold. Well, Infeld PI just arrived this morning - and I will have to make tests, to get soms data from experience. BUT, as should be stressed, WITHOUT any complaining, because BOTH are REMARKABLE, Evah Pirazzi Gold and the Thomastik Infeld Pi. are spledind in their own right. JUST imagine, what Louis Spohr or Beethoven may have accomplished with SUCH TOOLS from TODAY technologies! - Thanks again for INFORMATION - kicking off the HUMDRUM!

      @@brunoantoniobuike7068hi glad you have firsthand experience with the exact 3 sets of strings I am interested in. Would like to hear your thoughts about their differences. I have a quite old (125+) German violin that sounds dark and and sweet which I like. I put Evah green on it and worked quite well with more brilliance and volume. Then I needed more volume and changed to Stradpet titanium tailpiece+button which works to that outcome, but the Evah now becomes a bit metallic. I changed to Warchal Amber and the sound is now just right and net-net still with bigger sound than before. I just wonder if the Evah gold or PI would give even bigger sound without again leading back to too metallic

    I've also come from EP Greens and put on my first set of PIs (PI100) a few days ago. On my 1820s English violin, I pretty much concur with your experience. I'm waiting for my German bow to be repaired/rehaired and a M Fischer bow to arrive which may be even better, but on a very cheap temporary bow, the sound is a lot more complex than the EP Greens and feel a bit quieter under the ear (but doesn't mean less projection). With time, the strings have really settled down and sound quiet sweet, especially the platinum E which I least expected. On my violin the E is a bit louder than the other three which means it's not perfectly balanced, but it does sing and has a great response up top. I've also used a set of EP Gold (silver G) once and my honest feeling is that the EP Golds are probably better sounding strings IMHO, especially low down, but those went off relatively quickly. I prefer the PIs over the EP Greens. Anyway, I found a good price for them in the EU and have ordered three more sets!

    • @patriciajrs46

      How often do violinists put different kinds of strings on their instruments? I always thought that " you would never put a flat wound on with a round wound or a steel string" on a guitar.
      I know this is violin, but doesn't the same principal apply?

    • @houmangf
      @houmangf 8 месяцев назад +1

      @patriciajrs46 well, violin is very sensitive and responsive instrument against subtle changes! For example a different wood for bridge or even moving it only 1 mm back or front can easily improve or worsen the sound quality. This is the same for violin strings! And also the same strings may sound different on the different violins! So you need to test it yourself and for a balanced and professional sounding sometimes you need to use different strings as a set. So it's very common to use different strings at the same time and you will benefit from this for sure!

    an update, i had been using Evah P's on my Ming 905, and they are unlike any other string in every other way, even when they start to go out.(Unusually short life span on the Evahs). I thought something might be wrong with the violin because it was sounding off, especially D on A.
    I watched this video humpteen times, and figured what the hay, I've got visions on the artist and it sounds great, fantastic actually, lets see what the PIs will do. Power is a bit of an understatement. they are way ahead of Pirrazis. I was intimidated, they havent even had a chance to break in and they are outperforming the Evah greens in every single category. The clarity and strength, everything, beyond words. you compared them to Obligotos but to me they are much closer to the Visions. its almost like im playing the same violin but having it amplified, with every great thing about the Visions even better in the PIs.
    I have never been a fan of Thomastik, had a bad experience with them when i first started and never looked back. Today, as far as these two violins go, Visions and PIs are the only strings I'll ever buy for them.
    And as for the E string......No one else even comes close to the PIs platinum. the absolute best E string I have ever used.

    • @Fiddlershop
      @Fiddlershop  4 года назад

      Wow, Mark. You should see if Thomastik is hiring in marketing! But, I'm glad they were a good fit for you. I was equally blown away the first time I put them on my instrument, it's like you don't know what you're missing until you try them. But also to be balanced....they aren't for everyone. I also like the Vision Solo Titanium for a long time, but the PI's just had that extra little "umph" you described so well. Happy practicing -Gibbles

    I love these strings, my violin is pretty loud and bright but still a little sweet so these dark complex loud strings really helps draw out that soloist sound, currently a year into the Bach Chaconne almost 80% done with it and these never fail to respond or cease resonating even when they're completely dead and don't sound anything like the new ones they'll still out preform a new set of dominants or tonicas with the right player. I have so much more color depth especially with the g and pairing the whole set with a pirastro gold label E to replace the very tin-ny and harsh E that came with the set. It really gives me that soaring sweet yet shimmering sound, truly gold.

    Well I've got a quite bright and projective violin by itself would you recommend those strings to support even more that character or the obligato for a more warm and dark sound? Also has it any relevance with the style and Era of the piece? For example obligato for romantic Era pieces like Tchaikovsky of Dvorak and p100 for composers like Mozart of Bach where you are looking for a more clear sound? By the way very good and analytical reviews!!

    • @Fiddlershop
      @Fiddlershop  4 года назад +1

      Good questions! OK, so sometimes bright and powerful violins (and their players) like all the power they can get, and going all in is amazing. Personally, this was my experience, I got a taste for life in the fast lane and have never looked back. (well, not completely true, but it's not about me) Other times, PI's can just be too much, and something just slightly scaled back like Vision Solo Titaniums hit the sweet spot. But then again, as your other question alluded, we don't play concertos all day, every day, and sometimes you might just want something a little more subtle. And, you can't change your strings that often, or in the middle of a recital. :-) So, sometimes a more middle-of-the-road string makes sense. What fun! Thanks for asking!

      The PI strings are really powerful and direct.The Fiddlerman strings are not nearly as strong, and are a bit sweeter/brighter in tone. But, at about $100 cheaper per set, not a bad set of strings at all.

From my experience (I've been trying PIs for the fist time in the last 3 days), I agree PIs have more dazzle, but Ive found Titanium Solo to be brighter and strident, while PIs are a little bit "darker" and more resonant. I prefer the PIs, they also feel a lot better under the fingers.
