Hoover Freedom 750 Vacuum Cleaner TV Commercial 1970s

The quality of this recording isn’t the best, but it’s a TV ad that I vaguely remember, especially the part at the end when the cleaner picks up a house brick that happened to be lying around. The nozzle used for this demonstration of suction power was either the dusting or all purpose brush with the brushes removed. I think my Mum may have been influenced by this commercial as we had this very model in the late 70’s, bought without any input from me I might add.

In Finland these sold with a different two pedal floortool. And brand name was "vahvatassu" which means a strong paw. Lion strong.

I think in Germany this model was called the "Sauglöwe" which means suction lion ;)

Funny how the user has to flip the tool with their feet...although I'm no fan of these turn-over tools, the Electrolux tool was better as it was weighted on the one side, meaning that when it was lifted off the floor it would automatically spin round to a vertical position, allowing the user to drop it back down on the side of choice.

Yes a out of people don’t like them but personally I love my Electrolux flip over brush does a good job

@@sdm3447 It's because you don't have the wands fully seated. And at the time that is all they knew. I marked where the tubes seat together, plugged the end with a large cork, and then dipped the tube below that line with Flex Seal latex a couple times and rubberized the wand. Gives a better seal.

Yes. It's an odd thing, because the seal from the cleaning head would have been absolute, so very little suction power would have been needed to pick the brick up. It's a gimmick to both suggest enormous sucking power, and to put the memory in the head of the viewer.

Yes but the bristles have been removed from the brush to make the suction seal

@@David-uf8ex do you recall the adverts on UK television in the 1990s for the Oreck, where David Oreck would sit on a chair, with a bowling ball over his head, held in place by the suction of an Oreck canister?

@@sdm3447 No i don't remember that one but i was only a Hoover and Electrolux fan really . When the lux 65 was being promoted they used to pick up big ball bearings to demonstrate its suction power lol

@@David-uf8ex Well I can happily say I am no fan of Oreck, it was more that the advert was on TV a lot at a time when I watched TV a lot (I would have been a teenager). The first advert I ever remember seeing for a vacuum cleaner was the Moulinex Major "Got one of these? Get one of these!", followed by the new Hoover Turbopower range, and the Electrolux 350E where the dog would raise its paw so that the carpet underneath could be cleaned.
