    I'm thinking that Odin would do a fantastic early Hendrix 1966/67 Germaium fuzz tone. Berserk later, 1967,1970 silicone fuzz tones. These pedals are awesome.

    I've told you in other video, but I'm absolutely convinced that Odin it's the best fuzz on Earth.
    I have a Löke and an Odin v2.
    They're absolutely gorgeous, and I appreciate your changes and improvements in this v3, but, sincerely, people and their advertises to simplify everything......man.....World it's not simple....and some profound things MUST BE profound. And we appreciate things as they are. That's how we evolve.
    As an example....Löke seems pretty complex for a lot of people, but it's distribution and concept is pretty simple and focus....you just need to read, understand and memorize a little bit.
    Man, keep on with your complexity and profound researches. This is EVOLUTION. Fjord Fuzz rules the Pedal World. 😂😂😂😅

    I have the Odin on my pedalboard for only two months but i already know she (he?) never gonna leave it ! Just perfect for me, my only issue with this pedal : using other drives in stead of her !. With the volume on my strat or my tele i can have rich and warmer "almost clean", some beautiful light overdrives and of course a big distortion/fuzz when needed. Then i can use the octave .... Merci mille fois @fjordfuzz !!!

    My go to fuzz and that in which I judge all accordingly is the Odin v1 going strong for 2 years now and it sounds like I need to dabble with that Berserker even if just to support a great product.

    Just reading about Berserk lll on your site, and the mention of amanita muscaria is very interesting as friend gave me a small bag a few days ago of some..not tried it yet, had used liberty caps over the years... maybe a message from the gods, buy the berserker and take the shroom 😂😂

    maybe I've missed a line in the video, but I etill don't understand the difference between V2 and V3. although I've read your comment further below, that Odin V3 were the same as V2.

    • @FjordFuzz
      @FjordFuzz  10 месяцев назад +2

      ODIN V2 and V3 are the exact same circuits. If you already have a V2, there is no reason to upgrade. The only changes I made are cosmetic, mainly as I want my design language to mature a bit. I could’ve made BERSERK 3 the new ODIN, but for most people ODIN is pretty much perfect as is, so instead of updating that one, I made BERSERK contain all the alternative ideas I’ve had for ODIN, so if you already have an ODIN, you could get that one instead, if you wanted to. Furthermore, this means I’m not forcing anybody to update a perfectly fine pedal. Does that make sense? I don’t think I’ve managed to fully explain this anywhere yet. I’ll work on it!

  • @ClemsonJohnson
    @ClemsonJohnson 10 месяцев назад +1

    Thank you for the more in-depth explanation of the circuits. I just found Frei locally and now trying to figure out which one of your fuzzes I should get to go with it. I find your pedals inspiring, and being a player for45 years who took a long hiatus in order to comeback to it with a fresh approach to the instrument , they will play an important roll in my renaissance. Do you have any suggestions for a semi hollow body with vintage toned Alnico PAFs?

    • @FjordFuzz
      @FjordFuzz  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much! FREIA is fun! Should work really well with a LOKE, especially for fuzzy flange stuff!
      The kind of guitar you’re requesting is the exact opposite of what I usually go for, but I think the new Epiphone Casinos look really cool if you want a budget option. Personally I’d look for a 3/4 sized vintage Gibson thing, but my preferences are way different from most people!

    • @ClemsonJohnson
      @ClemsonJohnson 10 месяцев назад +1

      My apologies for not clarifying my question. I recently purchased a D'Angelico Excel Tour because it is a completely different animal than what I am used too and my mission is to follow new paths. So my request for suggestions was for a fuzz that might suit PAFs better. Like you I have been a devotee of the old Musicmasters. @@FjordFuzz

    • @FjordFuzz
      @FjordFuzz  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@ClemsonJohnson Right! I misunderstood! I think FREIA would be helpful, but also BERSERK III, in that case!

    • @ClemsonJohnson
      @ClemsonJohnson 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@FjordFuzz Thanks, but I have decided to throw caution to the wind and get what suits me conceptually, instead of what might sonically translate better theoretically. In the same way that I love a nice single pickup guitar, your single knob Odin seems to resonate with me, doing more with less. I think I will get a Freia as well at some point, to unite the twins, but they seem much harder to find.

    Just got an Odin 2 and really enjoying it. Quick-ish question: at around 3:30 you say the straight fuzz uses half-wave rectification. Is this giving us a form of asymmetric clipping (after the fuzz created by the transistors) by using a single diode in one direction and none in the other? It sounds like the fuzz has clean elements to it and it's got good string separation. Could this be because there's a relatively unaffected half of the waveform? I'm interested in the Berserk but wonder if this quality would still be present... Thanks!

    • @FjordFuzz
      @FjordFuzz  10 месяцев назад +1

      Your theory sounds about right. I’d say in real world use cases the two different circuits mostly behave different from each other is within compression and EQ curve. ODIN’s regular fuzz feels more compressed and less bright than the regular fuzz inside BERSERK. There’s asymmetric clipping in both of them though, by a ratio of about 2:7. There’s likely more in the ODIN circuit, but I haven’t measured it!

    • @cattlebuyer
      @cattlebuyer 10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for your detailed reply! The Odin is certainly a much more useable circuit than my Foxx Tone Machine clone and it's less woolly than my Fuzz Face; I found it useful straight away in a band setting!

      @@castrucciocastracani0 ODIN, but ODIN doesn’t have the mid scoop and diode clipping that the Tone Machine uses. The output gain stage is also very different with its bias voltage set to 66.6%. It’s a more mids-forward, less processed fuzz when compared to the original. Louder too!

    For a pedal at the price of £230 I was expecting much much more, this is just another 60s style fuzz face, you can get some cheap sub-zero shitty fuzz and get the same result.

      @@FjordFuzz signal keeps braking up, not a very rounded fuzz seems to be very harsh and not that full bodied, sounds like every other fuzz face, it’s very thin sounding, it seems to deal terribly with chords, and also you’ve compressed it too much fuzz’s natural pass headroom and compressors change the transient and decay by shortening and lengthening it, and with these pedals it’s lowered the threshold and it’s making it sound strained and not an open sound. Idk if it’s ur playing ur the amp you’re using but for £230 I’d be expecting shit tons better.

    • @FjordFuzz
      @FjordFuzz  2 месяца назад +1

      @@CosmicHandOfDoom haha thanks for the detailed description! If this is your take-away it’s most likely down to my limited skills as a recording engineer. I do everything myself and I’m admittedly better at designing circuits than I am at playing guitar and recording myself. BERSERK is pretty bright, but that’s on purpose. It cuts wonderfully in a live setting whereas the somewhat darker ODIN can sometimes get lost in the mix for some people. Neither one of them is a fuzz face at its heart, although both do have very low input impedance and negative feedback, so there are some similarities, certainly. ODIN is definitely very rounded and full-bodied in person and BERSERK is certainly bright and possibly verging on harsh, which I suppose wouldn’t fit with your needs. BERSERK is also very open and does not at all feel compressed. ODIN more so. If you want to try one for yourself, let me know and I can have something arranged to make that an as smooth as possible experience!
