The thing that makes a character like Farsight (a relatively good guy in the grim darkness in the far future) fit in is that though he is noble he can't catch a break. Dude is STRUGGLING hard and most named characters don't seem to go through devastating losses like he does. I think with all he's going though he's earned his place.

He made Space Marines blow up *their own Fortress Monastery* to get rid of him.
Fun fact: earlier lore implies the mind control might just be imperial propaganda and made up to explain how a society can be so nice. The main writer of the Farsight books kinda did retcon some things, like making the Aun more manipulative and Tau blood being changed from cyan to purple to red (inspiring the Farsight red) and the castes to be more restrictive (though that could vary by Sept)

I find it funny that the coldstar battle suit sequence is literally a scene ripped straight from gundam 0078. Its called the Battle of Loum which confirms that Farsight is just warhammer 40k Char Aznable. They both pilot red suits and go approxomately three times as fast as their regular counterparts
