You're both right that's exactly what happened but maki/Himi was not canon like when t.k actually traveled via gateway season 2 to the dark ocean. Her situation deserved a follow up that I'm guessing is too adult for the kids show to follow up so we won't ever get the answer(s) to What happened to her really.
(At 13:40) There were two things from THAT scene I remember from season 2 regarding Daemon: 1. he was in his "mantle form" and he still overpowered everyone and that was his weakest form. 2. The only reason he lost to them and got sent to the Dark Ocean was because… he "allowed" it. Either way, if he can make portals, sending him in there was too easy. So basically, they were losing against the Demon Lord of Wrath, who was at his weakest, who was holding back from the start.
And with what he said as he went through the gate he seemed familiar with Dragomon. It does feel like they were setting up him and Dragomon to be big bads but it just never happened. I'd say perfect for the 02 movie coming but i doubt that'll be the case haha.
I always figured marine devimon was their dark lord that they brought up before, given his name. Its still interesting why he'd want kari and they wanted her as queen. Potentially horrifying implications to be sure. Maybe given enough time there the ocean corrupts; it did change and upgrade ken's digivice after all. I think they even bring up he wished for it. I love that the concept of the digignomes in season 3 could still be applied to the previous seasons. After all, they grant wishes, and similar stuff they do has happened in previous seasons too. It explains how apocolomon's explosion was contained, why myotismon was able to be restrained with just their digivices' power. They definitely made wishes right beforehand for the latter so it checks out. I think the digivices were an unspoken medium they could harness and manifest the wishes--hell its the primary reason the digimon can evolve if i remember correctly, aside from the digivice itself simply making evolution easier to do.
I always thought Yoli went to the dark ocean after Kari n Ken bc 1: she was also Kari’s partner aka dna digivolution partner so she wanted to b there for her. 2: she likes/loves ken so she also had a connection to him n this went after him too.
I like this point a lot because if I'm not mistaken TK entered Dark Ocean as well so that he could Help Kari, and he did not seem to be under the influence of it.

So the way I take it now: There are two ways to enter the dark ocean, either you're taken to it by your own negative emotions (like Kari and Ken with their survivors guilt) or you go there willingly (like TK and Yoli, who both did it to rescue their friends), but that's a lot more difficult. This actually gives me mad respect for Yoli, she's a lot more badass than I thought of her previously!

I kinda wish the writer for that episode - who went on to do tamers the following season - was able to follow up on that bit of storyline, showing it as one of six layers of the digital world or some weird in-between where some digimon ended up after reforming or something.

Quick reminder that every digimon universe has its own rules, so this isn't the case for universes other than the adventure 99 one. In the last episode when the characters asked genai what was that world of dreams where the character defeated BelialVamdemon, genai said "It's a world that materializes people's emotions... Rather, it's the power to materializes emotions itself. In fact, the Digital World is also founded on that power" and then the characters said their own conclusions Miyako: so It's a world that integrates people's emotions and digital data. Ken. I see, so that ocean... it could be the materialization of the dark emotions in people's heart" (dialogue taken from the japanese sub btw) Also fun fact, reading kakudo's (Digimon adventure and 02's director) notes a while ago, he mentioned you could see the portals to those several worlds twice in the series, in episode 13 when takeru traveled to the dark ocean, there were a lot of paths and the one takeru was in was the one that took him to the Dark Ocean, the second time was in the last episode when adult takeru was seen traveling to the digital world.
I'd love to see an entire digimon season based on the twisted reality of the Dark Ocean and see it centered around a group of dark digidestined whom plunge the digital world into chaos.
I'm a bit convinced that the dark ocean is where D-Reapers come from, as well as other digital lifeforms or, at the very least, their concepts--and when someone activates those sequences of codes(concepts), either purposefully or by accident, they become real.
If we are considering the Dark Ocean a disconnected area from the Digital World we could consider it a small corrupted server, the nature of it so twisted to the point of its residence are unnatural looking in comparison to the residence of places such as the Dark Area. The way to get there is also obscure like the link is distorted or corrupted, making it difficult to get there without being fairly disturbed yourself to the point of resonating with the corrupted area. Once you are their it seams like the Dark Ocean is almost "intent" on feeding into the negativity inside a person (possibly to the point of being hardly recognizable to how the individual once was), just like how it did with Ken, in how he was originally a kind hearted soul with a matching Crest of Kindness, but upon interacting with the Dark Ocean he became cruel and sadistic to everyone around him.
In last evolution there were a few hints they entered the dark ocean. the water was black the crystals in neverland hovered over a dark sea. Menoa refers to herself as a goddess and becomes enveloped n light which parallels Karis arc. However as this happens the black water is also absorbed. the children and digimon are all possessed with red eyes. Had tai and Matt not saved them they would have likely become the creatures. also in Tri Kari does technically give in to the dark ocean. Ordinemon appears as a perverted goddess of fertility. It has control over all the digimon who lost their memories and turns them dark and formless also mimicking the creatures of the dark ocean.

I feel like The Dark Ocean could be Digimon's version of the dark web. It could have been created by Yggdrasil, the god of the Digital World, to keep Dagomon contained. Without this ocean, Dagomon may have tried to spread his influence throughout the Digital World. Sometimes digimon and humans slip through the cracks between worlds and end up in the Dark Ocean where they become one of those dark ghostly creatures. Dagomon could have also created the control spires too as they would have helped him in taking over the Digital World. But that's just a theory, a film theory!!

His crest is hope, so he can teleport to anybody who has hope that he can save them. It's automatic so patamon might not come with him if he's too far from tk and then you're both stuck without somebody to save you. At least you still got hope 🤷♂️
It would have been great to see a storyline in Digimon Adventure 02 that revolves around the dark ocean, specifically with Kari, TK, and Ken leading the way since they were the original crest users. The dark ocean has a significant connection with both Ken and Kari as they were both dragged there. Ken's experience showed that Darkness always tries to conceal kindness, while Kari's experience showed that light is the opposite of Darkness. It would be interesting if TK was also dragged into the dark ocean during this arc, not to rescue Kari, but because he was starting to feel hopeless, which is the opposite of hope. I believe a storyline featuring these three would be amazing as they are the ones who face Darkness the most in the series. Light, hope, and kindness constantly attract Darkness, because their the opposite of what Darkness represents what it wants to corrupt in each person. this could be a good storyline if they choose to reboot 02

The Dark ocean could also be a area where disgraded data goes, where even the darkest of dark goes when it dies. A void of darkness, where the only ruler is Dracgomon. And thanks to Xros Wars and Ghost Game we know this guy is powerful, with GG making him stronger via a virus. It may be a second kind of dark area, perhaps some digimon when they die end up there instead of the nursery or dark area? And likely the other reason Kari was drawn there is because she represents light, the stronger a persons light, the deeper the shadow, so perhaps this could have given us something like Angewoman darkness mode or Ophanimon Falldown mode (before it was a thing) or some sort of evil dragon

As a child, I have vague memories of the dark ocean. I do agree with you, just the fact that it hint of something greater, but nothing ultimately comes of it. The fact that the town is also called Innsmouth, hints at some pretty scary things.
The dark ocean differently had potential. I remember seeing this as a kid over and over Again and it wasn't till I was an adult that I realized. They really had something going on with this thing, and then they just stopped.
The only thing I can definitively say about the Dark Ocean is that it isn't a digital space. It may even be what Lovecraft was looking at which would certainly explain why he was extra terrified of the depths. Occasionally digimon do end up there but they can't leave and eventually become the realm's new inhabitants, twisted into new forms and beings suited to such a reality. The Scubamon and Dagomon are such recent arrivals. I am fairly certain that Dagomon isn't the master, he just happens to resemble Cthulu. Daemon however wasn't all that concerned, so perhaps he knows a way out. The Dark Ocean will trap him there but eventually he will be free, or perhaps he always wanted to be there.

In order to understand a World of Darkness one must understand darkness within the context of Digimon, Darkness is a force that is powered and created by negative emotions and it exists in the hearts of both humans and digimon.
I have an idea: At first. There is no "space in between code", as code is just voltage in a Flipflop in a hardware part. But I got a weird idea which might be closer to truth. In a computer system, you can say there are actually 3 states. Zero, One and Undefined. (If a variable is declared but gets no value, or there is some kind of error like electron interference on the circuitry. Basically, if you write "bool alpha = true", then its true, if its written "bool alpha = false", then its false, but you can also write "bool alpha" without definining wether this is false or true.) The undefined state is often called "null". Some languages call it "nil", from latin "nihilus". (Nihilus is also connected to the term "nihilism", which denies higher purposes in the world and thinks a lot of the world is in fact random. If you have a variable which is null and you try to access a variable in an if statement like "if a == true", then, this causes a so called Null Pointer exception. In a lot of programming languages, this causes an error or makes the program stop working. There are some assembly languages, where something weird might happen. For example, the game boy had an assembly language which gave the null pointer exception a string which should mean "Missing Number". It was displayed as MISSINGNO. Yes. THAT Missingno Pokemon creature is produced by a null pointer exception. My theory is: The sea of darkness is a world of Null Pointer exceptions, a world created by undefined parts of code. And Dagomon and all the other residents of THAT world are basically Digimons answer to Missingno. (And if you think about it. Missingno in itself is also a pretty demonic/satanic concept. A creature which should not exist in creation and which was not intended by the creator, which causes destruction and harms the work of the creator. But it can give you unnatural gifts. In a certain way, Missingno is close to a demon.)
I was under the impression that the Dark Spires were based on the Black Gears that Devimon uses. What frustrates me is that I never found information on what the Black Gears are or where they came from
Dark ocean or Dagomon's sea is so interesting.... as far as we know that only human visitors are digidestined and only if they are "corrupted" by negative emotions. My theory is that Dark ocean was actually created and by none other than Mileniumon himself. Dagomon serves as administrator of that place rather than creator. Now why i think that is. Both affects person who came into contact with it, both were necessary in Milenimon birth. And also likely both were things that Daemon was after in digimon 02 since he knew about both and didnt mind visitig that place even at cost not getting dark seeds. Also its estethic looks like the "air" is filled black particles similar looking to dark seeds. Dark ocean probably also serves as something like test lab and research centre, also anyone who entered that place and stayed there for longer period of time (probably exept Dagomon) was affected.
i watchted the english version. but season 1 and 2 digiital world was said to be a creation of amixture of peoples dream and digital data. that being said i think the dark ocean is the counter part to the world we see att the end of zero 2 a world given form by peoples insecurites and pain. likely thats the energy that fules it. that would make an aligorical explination of why it's so hard to escape., just like it's really hard for people to escape negative mental paterns and only get harder the further they sink in to them/ and for somone like demon who was pure negative energy and data he likly lacks the positive energy to escape.

Dark web is more like the dark area, everything that can be index-ced by the server end there, the dark ocean is more like an separated world from any digital world (there are others digital world that are not cobtroled by igdrasil) where the "deepts lord govern like igdrasil govern the digital world.

I saw something else about how the guy in charge if that episode really wanted to build up the Lovecraftian influences to pay off later. While his plans didn't work out, he still had Innsmouth where a dark god (Dagon) and his fishlike servants (Deep Ones) rose from the dark ocean
Scubamon apear to be degraded Divermon. Their dark form released once the dark spiral removed. This seems to imply that those dark creatures are Divermon who are in a transitionary state.

Technically, there were 4 digidestined who've been to the dark ocean. In Tri, one of the original digidestined Maki Himekawa went there as well.

As a child, I have vague memories of the dark ocean. I do agree with you, just the fact that it hint of something greater, but nothing ultimately comes of it. The fact that the town is also called Innsmouth, hints at some pretty scary things.

The dark ocean differently had potential. I remember seeing this as a kid over and over Again and it wasn't till I was an adult that I realized. They really had something going on with this thing, and then they just stopped.

The only thing I can definitively say about the Dark Ocean is that it isn't a digital space. It may even be what Lovecraft was looking at which would certainly explain why he was extra terrified of the depths. Occasionally digimon do end up there but they can't leave and eventually become the realm's new inhabitants, twisted into new forms and beings suited to such a reality. The Scubamon and Dagomon are such recent arrivals. I am fairly certain that Dagomon isn't the master, he just happens to resemble Cthulu. Daemon however wasn't all that concerned, so perhaps he knows a way out. The Dark Ocean will trap him there but eventually he will be free, or perhaps he always wanted to be there.

In order to understand a World of Darkness one must understand darkness within the context of Digimon, Darkness is a force that is powered and created by negative emotions and it exists in the hearts of both humans and digimon.
I have an idea: At first. There is no "space in between code", as code is just voltage in a Flipflop in a hardware part.
But I got a weird idea which might be closer to truth. In a computer system, you can say there are actually 3 states. Zero, One and Undefined. (If a variable is declared but gets no value, or there is some kind of error like electron interference on the circuitry.
Basically, if you write "bool alpha = true", then its true, if its written "bool alpha = false", then its false, but you can also write "bool alpha" without definining wether this is false or true.)
The undefined state is often called "null". Some languages call it "nil", from latin "nihilus". (Nihilus is also connected to the term "nihilism", which denies higher purposes in the world and thinks a lot of the world is in fact random.
If you have a variable which is null and you try to access a variable in an if statement like "if a == true", then, this causes a so called Null Pointer exception. In a lot of programming languages, this causes an error or makes the program stop working. There are some assembly languages, where something weird might happen.
For example, the game boy had an assembly language which gave the null pointer exception a string which should mean "Missing Number". It was displayed as MISSINGNO. Yes. THAT Missingno Pokemon creature is produced by a null pointer exception.
My theory is: The sea of darkness is a world of Null Pointer exceptions, a world created by undefined parts of code. And Dagomon and all the other residents of THAT world are basically Digimons answer to Missingno. (And if you think about it. Missingno in itself is also a pretty demonic/satanic concept. A creature which should not exist in creation and which was not intended by the creator, which causes destruction and harms the work of the creator. But it can give you unnatural gifts. In a certain way, Missingno is close to a demon.)
I was under the impression that the Dark Spires were based on the Black Gears that Devimon uses. What frustrates me is that I never found information on what the Black Gears are or where they came from
Dark ocean or Dagomon's sea is so interesting.... as far as we know that only human visitors are digidestined and only if they are "corrupted" by negative emotions.
My theory is that Dark ocean was actually created and by none other than Mileniumon himself. Dagomon serves as administrator of that place rather than creator. Now why i think that is.
Both affects person who came into contact with it, both were necessary in Milenimon birth. And also likely both were things that Daemon was after in digimon 02 since he knew about both and didnt mind visitig that place even at cost not getting dark seeds. Also its estethic looks like the "air" is filled black particles similar looking to dark seeds.
Dark ocean probably also serves as something like test lab and research centre, also anyone who entered that place and stayed there for longer period of time (probably exept Dagomon) was affected.
i watchted the english version. but season 1 and 2 digiital world was said to be a creation of amixture of peoples dream and digital data. that being said i think the dark ocean is the counter part to the world we see att the end of zero 2 a world given form by peoples insecurites and pain. likely thats the energy that fules it. that would make an aligorical explination of why it's so hard to escape., just like it's really hard for people to escape negative mental paterns and only get harder the further they sink in to them/ and for somone like demon who was pure negative energy and data he likly lacks the positive energy to escape.

Dark web is more like the dark area, everything that can be index-ced by the server end there, the dark ocean is more like an separated world from any digital world (there are others digital world that are not cobtroled by igdrasil) where the "deepts lord govern like igdrasil govern the digital world.

I saw something else about how the guy in charge if that episode really wanted to build up the Lovecraftian influences to pay off later. While his plans didn't work out, he still had Innsmouth where a dark god (Dagon) and his fishlike servants (Deep Ones) rose from the dark ocean

Even though dark ocean was introduced in zero 2 series, Digimon ghost game explained way more about dagomon and it's subordinates then zero 2.

Scubamon apear to be degraded Divermon. Their dark form released once the dark spiral removed. This seems to imply that those dark creatures are Divermon who are in a transitionary state.
Maybe they are developing a new ultimate level that better fits the dark ocean.
