The woman who played Lizzie should be considered for the lead in any"straight" movie version of p&p being planned or made in the next few years. She'd be perfect for the role.
In every adaptation, I've been mostly okay with Mr. Collins. This actor playing Mr. Collins did such an amazing job at making me feel so much disgust at once during his introductory song...oh my god. Good work to the singer as well as whoever wrote the lyrics, I hate him lmao
His song was, by far, the best! So many of the other songs felt disingenuous or pretentious, but that song was funny, accurate to Jane Austen's portrayal of the character and free of any misunderstandings of society in P&P's time period.
I love musicals and I love pride and prejudice. A couple of weeks ago, I was thinking I wish there was a Pride and Prejuice musical. And then this popped up as a youtube suggestion on my home page. Loved it, performances were amazing.
I love this version and can I say I love Mary yes she acts like Debbie Downer from SNL but the actress really gives the character personality. Usually poor Mary is a bit of a throw away character here she is very memorable.
Yes, Mary is hilarious here! I love it. I love how each character was portrayed. I think Jane Austin would be delighted and thrilled with this play and the actors and everything!!
I truly enjoyed this play. The songs were delightful and catchy! The actors that played Lizzy and Darcy were great. The BBC version is the best I've ever seen. I loved the voice of Darcy. I will see this again!👏🏽❤🤗
I really enjoyed this for the most part. But Lizzy's solo rejecting Lady Catherine's demands--it's totally inaccurate. The Bennets are NOT poor, they are not common either. In the book, she says "Darcy is a gentleman, and I am a gentleman's daughter." She is gentry, and so is Mr. Darcy. True, the Bennets don't have the same level of wealth that the Darcys do, but the only reason the Bennet girls have such small dowries (and the book makes this very clear) is because of the entail (which ties up not only the estate but the money for Mr. Collins), Mr. Bennet's neglect in saving a sufficient amount for his daughters' dowries, and finally, the fact that there are 5 of them to split up what little dowry money is available. And lest modern audiences feel contemptuous of dowries, which smack of the buying and selling of women, those dowries were the daughters' inheritance. In that old-fashioned English system, the oldest son (or other inheriting male relative like Mr. Collins) would get the bulk of the estate including the money, the younger sons would be provided with enough money and connections to get an education and join either the clergy (in a high end parish with a good living) or the military (as an officer, again with a comfortable living). The daughters' inheritance is the dowry. And only the dowry. Which is why it is supposed to be substantial--it was her contribution to her future family's income and situation. That dowry is meant to help set the daughter and her husband up in a comfortable, and hopefully profitable way. All in the husband's name, of course, unless the marriage contract specified that certain funds were to be reserved for the children (especially any daughters' dowries) or for the possibility of widowhood, or for the wife's allowance. The gentry class was never supposed to participate in trade (business). They had to make all their income passively--from real estate and investments, or be rejected from the society of those with similar lifestyles, education, and income (read: lose potential mates for their children). That meant that marriage was crucial, and a good dowry was critical. Which brings me to another gripe. Elizabeth's statement that she doesn't know if she ever will, or even if she wants to, marry and have children is just not accurate to the times. That's a modern woman's view, and one that doesn't take into account the very limited choices women had in the early 19th century. Elizabeth's alternative to marriage would be to live on one of her married sisters' charity for the rest of her life, to never have her own home. That's assuming, of course, that at least one of them married well enough to support a spinster sister. Darcy and Lady Catherine consider Mrs. Darcy crass because she is so desperate to marry off her daughters. But that is in large part because if the Bennet sisters DON'T marry before their parents' deaths (and remember, people didn't live as long in those days), they will be homeless and in poverty. If at least one or two are married, they will at least provide homes for the remaining single sisters. The thing is, Darcy knows this. And while he likely doesn't know the details of the entail, he probably knows enough to understand the situation. So he is indeed being very judgemental about Mrs. Bennet. Lizzy does defend her mother in the book--much more so that in this musical, because she knows the motivation. She's still embarrassed by her mother's obnoxiously obvious matchmaking (especially because it's so crass that it might actually be doing more harm than good), but she knows how important it is that she and her sisters marry. Unlike modern times, the parents' social network was key in finding appropriate spouses for their children. Everyone in that time and place and social situation knows that money and social status are important considerations for marriage--but everyone is supposed to marry for love too. In fact, someone marrying outside their station in life is considered destined for a miserable marriage no matter how much they think they love each other because their situations, educations, and financial expectations are too different. Mr. Bennet also bears considerable blame for the situation. He didn't HAVE to sign the entail. But he married a wife whose judgement he didn't trust--and perhaps because of that he felt he couldn't trust his future daughters' judgements either (accurate, in the case of Kitty and Lydia, though they're very young to be expected to have good judgement). Granted, he did it thinking he and his wife would eventually have sons. He also could have put aside plenty of money for dowries--which he didn't, believing a son would arrange it from the estate. But that was short sighted. And he never should have let his 15 year old daughter spend all the time she did with soldiers or go to Brighton at the the invitation of an officers' wife. The safety of that situation would be questionable even today (think of it as sending a sophomore in high school off with a bunch of college kids for a Spring Break trip with no birth control), but in that day and age it was not acceptable at all, and he, as head of the household should have forbidden it. Though again, probably Mrs. Bennet allowed it hoping Lydia would marry one of the officers--they were likely of her social class, though younger sons without expectations of the same kind of lifestyle that Lydia grew up with. This show did an excellent job of showing the effect of Lydia's misbehavior on the the rest of the Bennet sisters and any prospect they had of marriage. As unfair as it was, Lydia's behavior would have been assumed to be an outgrowth of how she was raised, and most people would assume that any of her sisters at any time might do exactly the same. I loved the actors' potrayal of Elizabeth, Mr and Mrs. Bennett, Lady Catherine, and Lydia. Darcy has a gorgeous voice, and the duet with Lizzy was beautiful. The set was great. Though Mary's announcement of the setting of each scene was a bit weird and unnecessary. There was a bit too much tell instead of show in some parts, but all in all, it was very enjoyable. Modern enough to make it understandable, and true enough to Austen show why it's a beloved classic even 200 years later. The costuming was excellent too--except for Lizzy's dress at the end--what is up with that weird geometric batik? That's a fabric I would expect to see in a 21st century beach dress, not a Regency gown! But I really like how the older ladies (Lady Catherine, Mrs. Bennet) had clothing styles more reminiscent of previous decades--the late 1700s. Just how an older lady might hang on to styles she always loved rather than adopt her teenagers' more fashion forward looks. All in all, I really enjoyed it! 4 out of 5 stars!
Some excellent points! The playwright's and lyricist's lack of attention to the details in the book and of Regency society ruined this musical for me, unfortunately. And I was rooting for it to be great, too!😭 An entail could last for up to three generations, however. Since Jane Austen does not say Mr. Bennett signed the entail himself, it seems best not to assume he prematurely overly estimated his high Y-chromosome count.

From Glendishka.... Excellent! Bravo! Can not get enough. This is my seventh viewing, with many more to come. I love The Classics. I especally love Jane Austen. And now, to discover such a marvelous rending of my favourite of her works - " Pride and Prejudice" as such. an enjoyable musical. Produced ...so flawlessly, I am certain, on the constraints of a very tight budget. High commendation indeed to cast and crew. Whenever I need some happy time, I tune into your "Pride and Prejudice". Thank you all.
Thoroughly enjoyed this adaptation! as a musical theatre nerd and long-time lover of P&P, I was thrilled to get this on my recommended page! All the songs are so well written and spectacularly performed! 10/10
I was surprised that this existed and showed up on my recommendations. Loved the character portrayals, the music and the whole simplicity and dare I say it, the extra comedy throughout! Already started sharing with family and friends who I thought would enjoy this as much as I did. 😊❤
As an Austen fan, of 1 and 60 years, with Silver Hair and Gravity disliking me every morning, I found this to be DELIGHTFUL, QURIKY, FUNNY and ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.. Bravo to all the fantastic cast, some playing 2 roles, the songs were great, the acting marvellous, the crew, writers, everyone did a phenomenal job, and now I'm going to watch it again.. Thank you all, this hit the Austen spot perfectly. Sending my heartiest best wishes from Wales.
Happy to watch again! I enjoyed the music and singing and the costumes. I liked the acting and it was all very pleasant. My favorite song is the one with the lady who was singing about how everyone knows how important she was, including herself lol. The songs are all catchy! Thank you for the upload. I wish to go see a performance IRL soon!
Surprise! Surprise! For once, a favorite classic by a favorite author has been made into a musical. I enjoyed this very much. We are a family that loves the classics and Jane Austen's novels are among the most studied in English literature and watched in film and small screen. Bravo to this production!
And it took me so long to watch this. I warcg 1967 version on RUclips all the time and this comes up often. Well I fell asleep and woke up to a treat! Collins intro song is hilarious and so on point!!! I love the songs, beautifully crafted, best musical I have seen in years. I love Jane Austen and didn't think I had the patience to watch it as a musical. I need them to have done Persuasion and Sense and Sensibility too ... please!!!
Loved this! They all did such a great job! Whoever wrote the play did an excellent job! The mixture of the book, comedy, and commentary was done so well! Bravo! ❤
Darcy is my favorite singer, absolutely awesome!!! I want him sing my life and daily activities....i need to hear more. I love his voice!!!!! I can't watch this play every day to hear him😂😂😂 or can I? 😜
This video showed up very unexpectedly in my recommended section and I clicked on it, not expecting much at first. However, I'm delighted to say that I very much enjoyed the entire musical and have already sent the link to my mom who's an Austen fan as well. I think the actresses/actors/singers did a great deal to have the characters come alive on stage and I was positively giddy every time I encountered a dialogue snippet from either the 2005 or 1995 BBC version (or the book of course). While it was no easy task to include the entire book in only 2 hours of play, the most important aspects were present as well as the overall character arcs. I further enjoyed getting glimpses into Darcy's perspective as these are obviously not included in most adaptations and I helped to flesh out his character a little bit more as well as his devotion to Elisabeth. I personally would have preferred a little more dialogue between the songs/ longer scenes as it felt a little rushed at times. Nonetheless, I liked the songs that were written for each plot point and I admire how some have been re-used slightly differently in their reprises to accentuate change or callbacks within the stroyline. Overall a great job, thank you for uploading!
.Wonderful adaptation ~ Love the cast - each one a gem of a talent, nay a treasure trove...... and the lead couples - especially the one......were so fantastic ~ The best couple ever ~ truly breathtakingly heartwarmingly shining forever and ever ~
Is this objectively a good musical? No. Have I watched it several times? Yes. Most of the time they just...start singing, out of nowhere. No lead up, no building up, just the feeling that a very annoyed director was standing off stage telling them to start bloody singing already! It can be very jarring. Honestly, most of the songs are very "Compser's First Musical" (except Her Ladyship's Praise, which does indeed slap). There are lines or melodies that I like, but as a whole, not even the songs I like feel polished enough for an audience. Mary just announcing the setting gets more hilarious as it progresses (and probably not in the way intended). Actually reconstructing that 4th wall might be the best fix for this play. It does not feel like the characters are talking to each other half the time, but are instead just talking to the audience. Which does not help sell any of the relationships here. I can see the bones of something good here, and there is certainly enough character to it that over the years I have watched it 3 or 4 times, but to be anything more than passable, carried along mostly on nostalgia for the feelings audiences already entered the theater with, it would require some reworking of both the book and the music.
Thank you! I agree wholeheartedly. I just went to see this show live tonight at my town's local summer theater company, and I just don't think it does the original story justice. I'm currently finishing my own musical version of Pride and Prejudice to be performed by my community college, so hopefully that will turn out to be worthy of its source material.
@@jamesthrasher431woww! I was just first time watching this and talking with my p&p and musical besties about if there might be other musical adaptions! Please do upload if possible would love to see it 💛💛
@@jamesthrasher431 for this version there are parts certainly enjoable to me, but some roles being overly dramatic just make me feel off and kinda cringe🥲 tho i imagine its very difficult to decide what to put into songs, when the original plot is mostly subtle communications arts of a rather simple love story.. but a very good musical to me just brings new perspectives when we dig deeper into characters when they sing:)
Это ещё одна версия моего любимейшего романа Джейн Остин "Гордость и Предубеждение"😍This is another version of my favorite Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice. Cool 👍
I just found this new version. I was delighted. It is marvellous. It is kind of a shame that there are little anachronisms, like with some pieces of clothes. But there are few. But it is just because they are so few, that it comes out of the style of the whole. But in the other hand if there were more I wouldn’t have liked this musical. So, it was almost perfect !
Utterly and completely! Was coming to write this. All the other costumes are lovely, but it looks like they tried to use awful, out-of-period costumes to denote that Lizzie is different. Bad choice in an otherwise rather delightful production.
They fell into the trap of "female heroine ahead of her time needs to be rejecting all social norms". I don't think I read anywhere that Lizzy wasn't interested in having children or marrying. I always felt like she just didn't consider it a realistic expectation because she wasn't as pretty as Jane and also knew her family's poverty made a good marriage unlikely at a time when most people married for money. I think she would've happily married Wickham if he hadn't turned out to be a gold digger and immoral asshole.
I will say, I didn't expect my favorite song to be Lady Catherine de Bourgh's but I guess it follows the "villain" song rule... It was great. And... this is my new favorite interpretation of Mr. Darcy?!
Excellent, most enjoyable. I like the variation with speech & song even the humour adds to the enjoyment & renders this version not boring as it's a long Play, quodos to All, I think that Jane Austen would be pleased indeed! 🎵🌹🌹🌹
Saw this about a week ago and obsessed🤩 I didn’t know anything about Pride & Prejudice and love ever second of it. Even though I didn’t know the story was like Mr. Darcy is my favorite before he even sang and he sang and was like oddly relatable each song he sang (coming from being Gay)
What is the most positive about this to me is that musical is the perfect medium for Pride and Prejudice where male characters do not particularly talk and thus misunderstandings occur, but now we have songs as the outlet for those unsaid feelings, especially since they are placed so well. One cannot go wrong with Austen's text and the lyrics are good, but the music lacks in depth and orchestration and it is just too modern for the original text. I also really liked the juxtaposition of arranged marriage and happy marriage which comes right from the start and frames the narrative context. Pity Lizzy doesn't have time to change dresses, particularly for the balls.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend two adaptations of the original book: The 1996 miniseries and the 2005 movie adaptation. Much pleasure awaits you!
Loved dir the most part. Only important thing they missed( or maybe I missed it being said). Was when LIzzy calls out. Mr Darcy for not behaving like a gentleman in his first proposal. I think that would have been important as being a gentleman would have been at his core.
Bravo. Walaupun saya tidak begitu mengerti bahasanya tetapi karena saya tahu jalan ceritanya... Jadi saya sangat menikmatinya❤sangat sangat bagus. Mantap❤

What a surprise. Happy to see this! Is it just me or could Lizzie have shown a little humor or softness? Her constant angry state annoyed me. And some of the songs I found less than inspiring, but I am still glad to see your adaptation. 😊 Thanks.
I have a question: are those under their wigs/ around their hair microphones? I was so confused at first as I thought it's qtips and it still can be that but I just want answers 😅
It's always a sign of bad / lazy writing if the main character has to break the fourth wall and explain to the audience what's going on. Show! Don't tell! As an actor myself I hate parts like that.
Boa sorte!!!
As a fan of Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice, I find this to be more than tolerable. Although I am not a fan of musicals this presentation is delightful and funny. It would be so much better without the onslaught of ads.
Please don't judge all musicals by this. If you want a good musical about a classic novel check out Little Women ruclips.net/video/bXsVNkNCXLM/видео.html
What a surprise when it came up on my recommendations list. Loved this. Very talented performers to pull off comedy, acting and singing.
Mr Darcy's intro song gives so much depth to his character, that was amazing!

I think I just fell in love with Mr Darcy once again... I'm basically crying 😭🤧
What a most wonderful rendition of 'Pride and Prejudice' to enjoy on Austen's birthday anniversary. Marvelous work, all!

Overall a great job, thank you for uploading!
pleasantly surprising! what a fun adaptation, really enjoyed this one!
.Wonderful adaptation ~ Love the cast - each one a gem of a talent, nay a treasure trove...... and the lead couples - especially the one......were so fantastic ~ The best couple ever ~ truly breathtakingly heartwarmingly shining forever and ever ~
What a warm, witty, lovely adaptation! The inner monologues are true to character and engaging, and I enjoyed the added comedy!
With a bit of tweaking this could easily be on Broadway or the West End. Lifelong Austen fan and I really enjoyed it.
@@jamesthrasher431 I hope you upload it to youtube
@@jamesthrasher431woww! I was just first time watching this and talking with my p&p and musical besties about if there might be other musical adaptions! Please do upload if possible would love to see it 💛💛
@@jamesthrasher431 for this version there are parts certainly enjoable to me, but some roles being overly dramatic just make me feel off and kinda cringe🥲
tho i imagine its very difficult to decide what to put into songs, when the original plot is mostly subtle communications arts of a rather simple love story.. but a very good musical to me just brings new perspectives when we dig deeper into characters when they sing:)
@@nobodyqwertyu I hope so too :)
This was EXCELLENT!!! This rendition was EXCELLENT!! :D :D :D And the lyrics to the songs were so great too! :D :D I LOVE this one! :D :D
Her ladyships praise is quite good.
Это ещё одна версия моего любимейшего романа Джейн Остин "Гордость и Предубеждение"😍This is another version of my favorite Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice. Cool 👍
I absolutely loved this, so glad it popped up on my suggestion list.
I LOVE “her ladyships praise.”
Anyone think that Lizzy has the most unflattering costumes as the leading lady?
Utterly and completely! Was coming to write this. All the other costumes are lovely, but it looks like they tried to use awful, out-of-period costumes to denote that Lizzie is different. Bad choice in an otherwise rather delightful production.
Yes!!!
@@kisa229 Agreed.
Jane’s wig is very distracting. It’s not glued down properly 😂
Darcy ROCKS
Love this, love the girl playing Mary.
well played ! really enjoyed it :)
Very well done! Pride and Prejudice is my favorite Jane Austen story. I enjoyed it as a musical! Thank you!
Well done Justin Mortelliti!
Lizzy's shading and attitude is my guilty pleasure!) She's classy here)
Thank you very much for this production ! It was a pleasure for me to see It, to appreciate It ! I adored It !
I will say, I didn't expect my favorite song to be Lady Catherine de Bourgh's but I guess it follows the "villain" song rule... It was great.
And... this is my new favorite interpretation of Mr. Darcy?!
They all sing very well !! 👏
Excellent, most enjoyable. I like the variation with speech & song even the humour adds to the enjoyment & renders this version not boring as it's a long Play, quodos to All, I think that Jane Austen would be pleased indeed! 🎵🌹🌹🌹
I think Jane Austin would be delighted!
OMG! I loved it till the end 😍😍😍. I've been in love with the novel, the movies and now this ❤. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
Absolutely beautiful!
It's amazing, wonderful, admirable! Thank you!
This feels like it was written by Mary Bennet.
Me gusta mucho esta versión musical tan divertida, bravo¡¡¡
This was my first time hearing the story and I loved it!
If you haven't already, I highly recommend two adaptations of the original book: The 1996 miniseries and the 2005 movie adaptation. Much pleasure awaits you!
@@sophiamcl that's cool! Thanks
God! This is absolutely beautiful
6:11 i blame the internet for me screaming "DEMURE" when she sang it XD
This is just perfect
Loved dir the most part. Only important thing they missed( or maybe I missed it being said). Was when LIzzy calls out. Mr Darcy for not behaving like a gentleman in his first proposal. I think that would have been important as being a gentleman would have been at his core.
So adorable! I loved it!!
Goodness, the MC asides, Mary and Caroline were my favorites 😂
😡… “I like her eyes” ❤😍🫶
I loved it thanks very much-you all did it very well.
Why does this Mr Darcy have so much Damien Hass energy???!
Ooooh, he could so play Darcy!!! Especially this Darcy
His eyebrow raise at 20:32 hehe He's like: "Really? Let me tell you."
Bravo. Walaupun saya tidak begitu mengerti bahasanya tetapi karena saya tahu jalan ceritanya... Jadi saya sangat menikmatinya❤sangat sangat bagus. Mantap❤
Applause Applause!!🌷🌷🌷

Took me three days to finish this-- because of work hehe-- but so worth it! \^____^/
Well done!! I enjoyed it so very much!!
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful
This was awesome! Everyone performed incredibly, such exceptional talent!
Again, this is so good
Шикарно! Браво❤
Yes, microphones for sure.
this was so good!!
How did I watch this entire show and not realize that Jane is like 7 months pregnant until the very end?
the music just rips my ears, it's so unmelodic
This is amazing acting
Thoroughly enjoyed!!!!
I really like this.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾That was excellent!
I really enjoyed that, what company was it? And what stage wa it performed on?
It's always a sign of bad / lazy writing if the main character has to break the fourth wall and explain to the audience what's going on. Show! Don't tell! As an actor myself I hate parts like that.
Love it, love it, love it ❤
I found something i want to watch
I love this version
Loved it!!!
Primeira vez vendo uma adaptação de orgulho e preconceito em forma de musical 🎼
I feel the actress who plays Charlotte would have played Elizabeth nicely too 😊
jane's wig 😭
I loved it luckily the high belt fashion hides the pregnancy of one of the actresses
I was wondering about that. “Jane” must have been quite far along .. 7-8 months I’m guessing.
Wow I enjoyed it
He got me when she said that 21:43

As a fan of Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice, I find this to be more than tolerable. Although I am not a fan of musicals this presentation is delightful and funny. It would be so much better without the onslaught of ads.
Please don't judge all musicals by this. If you want a good musical about a classic novel check out Little Women ruclips.net/video/bXsVNkNCXLM/видео.html
