      Warden Norton is easily one of the most underrated movie villains ever and played brilliantly by Bob Gunton. No big fancy Marvel suits and weapons and yadda yadda yadda. Just your classic narcissistic, evil, stone cold, sociopathic mental terrorist who has every aspect of the prisoners' lives by the balls. And it's always the irony that the people that play the most messed up characters are those you'd trust to leave your kids with over some of your blood relatives.

There are so few actors who can portray so well such intimidating characters (as the Kurgan), and yet play comforting characters (like his character in Earth 2). Great, great actor. The scene on the roof is sort of the peak of his arc, where he’s conflicted with either a) actually throwing him off the roof or b) entrusting an inmate, who he views as scum under his shoe. He not only trusts his advice but shows a small amount of humanity by letting them drink after the jobs done. He’s a very evil dude but throughout the film we see him occasionally shed that, however brief it is. Not a full redemption arc but enough development I guess

    Clancy playing the demon born-again radio evangelist was terrifying in HBO's "Carnivale" but almost nobody watched it.....so far out there.

    I was one of the few people I guess who actually saw this when it was in the theater. I remember walking out and thinking what an incredible film it was and could not believe it didn't do well at the box office but in fact I thought I must have been a little out of my mind until it was nominated for Best Picture

      The fact that Shawshank never won a single Oscar - Golden Globe - SAG award is a crime. the 2016 movie "Suicide Squad" Won an Oscar for best makeup. That trash movie has an Oscar and Shawshank does not SMDH

      Some prison movies don't do well at the box office. The Tom Hanks movie, "Philadelphia", the story of a gay man dying of HIV won the Oscar that year. It was more "politically correct" win.

    He also played Lauphgrin in a Sean Penn film called Bad Boys. If you haven't seen it you should. It's a fantastic film.

    Shawshank is a masterpiece in storytelling, brilliant filmmaking, and incredible performances; all with enduring themes of hope and transcendence, justice and friendship, it’s one of my favorite films of all time. As is the Steven King story that it’s based on. It’s what I consider to be a perfect film.

    Clancy was awesome in the HBO series, 'Carnivale,' which really, REALLY should have had one more season.

      Carnivale was brilliant another one of those series that inexplicably gets cancelled

    • @MrDuneedon
      @MrDuneedon 2 года назад

      @@bobbyboko6317 Yeah. I found this from an article, though: “Carnivale was one such show. Gloriously geeky, and notoriously expensive (a rumoured $4m per episode), it couldn't find an audience commensurate with the scale of its ambition and was cancelled after just two seasons.” $4 million per episode, especially back in the early 2000s, was fairly exorbitant. Even if the ratings were pretty decent, and I don’t know that they necessarily were, they just could not keep up with the costs.
