Prafulla Mahanta, Hiteshwar Saikia and Sulfa were the main culprits behind this killings of innocent people. But Prafulla Mahanta never got punished and still getting VIP treatment. ULFA fought for the rights of Assamese ppl. If ULFA didn't existed thn by now Assam would hv been totally under bengalis, Biharis nd marwaris just like tripura

Prafulla Mahanta had all the power as Chief Minister but not that of police and law & order. The unofficial boss of law & order those days was GM Srivastava, the then IGP (Law & Order). Central agencies and a section of Assam Police utilized surrendered Ulfa (Sulfa) to carry out these dirty acts. All these were happening with support and direction from the then BJP government at the Centre. Prafulla Mahanta was warned by the Centre to not intervene in the secret killings or else, he was threatened with President's rule and dismissal of the AGP Government in Assam, as had happened during his first term as Chief Minister.

I was personally very feeply hurt on hearing Dimba Rajkonwar's death as I happened to meet him at astc Dibrugarh while working at Nahartoli TE Dibrugarh in 1994. He was indeed a very dear personality with high humanitarian values. Will remain always sad when thinking of him your father. Life has to go on and am proud of the fact he has a worthy son in you. I never read the book but yes i have heard stories about those days from my family. It was a very dark period for assam . My father was also kidnapped by the liberation as his elder brother fled from the group. Many months my father was tortured and when left he ran for his life and hid somewhere a couple of months. But fortunately no casualty found in our family but the trauma and fear remains in his heart forever. He says if anyone knocks in his room while he is in deep sleep ,suddenly the trauma occurs (ptsd) and wakes up sweating and with hyperbreathing

I am so sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing your story. This era still sends absolute chills down my spine when I hear the stories from my father. He says the security forces would even abduct and torture anyone who had the same surnames even if they were not related to the ULFA members at all. There's a secret spot near my late grandmother's house where they would bring in such victims and torture them and she could hear their screams all throughout the night. People are scared to go there to date. The current youth of Assam is lucky to never have gone through this phase like our parents and seniors did.

Thank you for speaking out. This was one of the darkest periods in Assam’s history, a time that many have almost forgotten. As someone who has researched and studied the secret killings, I know how gruesome the events were. On the same day your father was killed, Dharanidhar Das and his entire family were also wiped out. The tragic stories of Umakanta Gogoi and his family, and many others, remain as painful reminders. While it is important to move on from this dark phase, we must not forget the innocent lives lost. Did we, as a society, do enough to seek justice for those killed during the secret killings? No. The least we can do is remember them and tell their stories.
May your father and all those who lost their lives rest in peace. We failed them, but their memory lives on.

I was quite all these years because during that time neither did I understand nor I had a platform . Now that I have a YT channel and atleast 13 k people follows me , I took a lot of courage and let people know what happened to many innocent souls. Moving on from the dark phase is easy to say but the victims family have to live with it . It’s a chapter in our lives that will always be there . It’s a stain or a wound that will always be there . Anyway, thank you for taking out time and writing down a comment

I have tears in my eyes as I finish watching your video. It brought back memories of those dark times in Assam. I am so sorry for what you had to go through. My family went through a similar fate. One brother joined the organisation and the other brother got picked up and tortured regularly until he died of an accident. The house where my old mother slept got bombed one midnight. She almost died of the shrapnel. They called it pressure tactics but one calls it murder of humanity. The brother who was in the organisation too was later caught in an ambush. Then he seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. We haven't got the closure yet. It's been 20 years!

We, who have seen it all, enough gore and brutality, as kids and teens back then, should tell our collective stories. Personally I was in the parade ground during the infamous dhemaji blast incident of 2004. Just like me and you, many of us, from all corners of Assam have been through some. That dark phase from 1990s to early 2000s did caught us all very well. History should not be repeated that's why it's important to tell the stories to every coming generations.

My greetings to you Chow Sureng, I know about this incident because my father used to work at astc as well but at that time he was working at AFC, near to your office but frequently visited astc as he had a lot of friends over there even might knew your dad as well. My father narrated me this incidence once from his perspective but at that time was an infant, still chills down my spine with terror. I am glad that I could know the details about it. Even my father was under the radar, interestingly from both sides. Grandfather served the army and my father was an NCC cadet before, so suspected to be working for them while the other side thought the other way because of my father's strong political opinion and independent brave thoughts which were just false assumptions. We were living a simple life but pains so much when harassed without any reasons that's why I can feel what you might have went through.
I'm pleased to meet you over a platform, never thought will ever come across. These things are never meant to be forgotten.

Central govt be it any party has always used Assamese ppl against each other (irrespective of ethnicity). Lack of loyalty n bravery on the part of many weaklings have made Assam a truly deplorable state, constantly battered over the years, even today.
    Stay strong brother 💪🏻

I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I understand the hardships your family endured during that time. My father also joined ULFA in the 90s, and my family faced unimaginable harassment from the police. My uncle was beaten many times and jailed just to find out my father's location. My aunt, and grandparents all suffered greatly because of it. Eventually, my father left ULFA, but the scars of that time remain with us. Please know that you are not alone.

I am a witness to the harassment endured by our family and village. Many of the young people have left the village due to the torture inflicted by the Indian Army and police.
Every other day, I hear of someone going missing, only to have their body discovered later. The case of the late Dimba Rajkhowa in Dibrugarh remains vivid in my memory, leaving me in a state of rage and distress.
