Red shouldered hawk has similar striped al feathers, is a similar size, but the whole underside is noticeably red.
The peristome falcons are slightly smaller, don’t typically hunt like that (they’ll perch up as high as possible and fly up and dive to catch prey - typically avian prey). And their tail feathers are a more solid grey and in my opinion narrower and longer.

I had another look at the video. I believe it's a mouse or vole next. Sorta looks like a coiled rattlesnake in the video. That said, I have missed stuff before! Lou B

I haven't sadly. I believe the ones in Texas are OK to handle. Not 100% sure about that though. Maybe this year.............. Lou B

@@loub747 I believe Lou is correct.......they're all superior snakes but the Eastern Indigo is a protected species at least in Florida and Georgia whereas the Texas Indigos are perhaps threatened but not necessarily hands off like the Eastern Indigo. However, they all need our help and respect to increase their numbers and habitats!! Jim C.

I love my rattlesnakes Lou. I know the western pacific's have a very strong venom. How are the Western pacific rattlesnakes populations doing compared to the 1970s in and around Los Angeles. Thanks for the video.

I'm not too sure to be honest. They are plentiful in untouched habitat, even if close to civilization. It's my pleasure! Lou B

Where I live in So Cal, the California kings seem to be gone compared to 20 years ago, but the rattlesnakes are doing quite well considering the human onslaught. Lots of prey items around. Such interesting animals.
