    I have worked on small engines a long time in my shop....I have never heard ANYONE want to know the RPM of a drill. Strangely enough, they seem to want to know the rpm's of an engine.

    The video was informative and I really like the tripod screw receiver feature.
    Your Amzn link is broken and the device is now selling for $189.69.

    Can this Tachometer be used to check the RPMs on a push mower or any 2 or 4 stroke engine. If so how do you check it. Do you point this at the spark plug like other tachometers?

    would really LOVE for you to compare this one. up against a few cheaper amazon ones. so i can see if it's worth spending the extra $150.

    Have you checked it on a vehicle's harmonic balancer and compared to the gauges in the car?

    Thanks for the video. I appreciate your testing methods. I'm curious if the size of the reflective tape has any impact on the measurement? Say for example if a cutting that surrounds half the rotating part is different from one that is 1mm sliver?

      Never mind, I see you answered a similar question already. So long at the instrument measures the leading glance of light, it should be good.

    Perhaps you could test a few of the cordless drills you have and see which ones come close to the claims? I would be interested to see which ones come closest to the manufacture claims.

    A test I would add (which maybe you already have) would be to test the rpm of battery tools using multiple, different, amp hour batteries. I don't know if it makes a difference in non-load speeds but it sure makes a difference in power especially for high demand tools like circ saws, sawzalls, hole hogs, etc

      Thanks for the suggestion! I have already been working on that, but I wanted to show what this new meter was & how it operated prior to lumping it into a larger video discussing batteries & performance. Thanks! :)

    • @holtlarson6482
      @holtlarson6482 8 лет назад

      At the very least it would be cool to show a tools difference with rpm under load as well. I could see it being very useful in drilling metal. As well as drilling or cutting, under heavy load, with battery tools and see the rpm drop with different amp/hr batteries

    Does the size of the reflective tape on the chuck effect the result of the RPMs? Would the RPMs be more accurate if you used a 1/16" piece of tape instead of a 1/2"?

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад

      They recommend 1/2" square for most applications (like what I showed) & as thin as 1/8" for thin shafts.....the width makes no difference, it is merely measuring the revolutions with each rotation of the tape. • @RealToolReviews

      They do have NIST certified versions, but the price is quite a bit higher.

    • @JAKOB1977
      @JAKOB1977 5 лет назад

      German Tool review@ you dont need calibration certificate on such devices...they are not off on the non-contact versions...
      even the 5 USD version is insanely accurate and you can test it yourself with a diode with hz-frequency..
      they are spot on pretty much thrueout their range to 100k, even the extremely cheap ones 5 to 10 USD delivered are spot on on the full rpm value..
      its how they work that makes them accurate laser/LED tachometer on sensing reflection.
      accurate is not a problem on such items so no reason for any sense of calibration, its more aspects like distance and likewise, that can tumble a reading or tachometer where there are spinning parts, but on the non-contact versions not really an issue..
      // edit here ia a crude example of the 5 to 8USD ones. ruclips.net/video/2uiByAnSS2k/видео.html

  • @rpn000rpnca

    Can I put two pieces of tape separated by 180 degrees to double the number of rpms displayed? Would doing so increase the accuracy of the reading. (Divide result by 2)

    • @CookieTube
      @CookieTube Год назад

      Yes, you can.
      Note: that 'trick' isn't so much of a trick in that it is actually common practice. It is normally used to measure low RPMs which are outside the tachometer's range. Eg: if the range starts at 100 RPM, and your device rotates at around 50 RPM, put at least 2 reflective dots equally spaced out on it. (or three, or four, ...). Measure the RPMs, and divide by 2 (or 3, or 4, ...) to get the true RPMs.

    My daughter is doing a science experiment on tidal energy. She needs to measure the RPM of a propeller ( model boat propeller) as water passes by the propeller. Would this device pick up the reflected tape if it was submerged under about a foot of water?

    I'm about to invest in a 1/2 impact and I have decided on a Nitrocat. Besides the price what the biggest difference between the 1200-K and the 1250-K?

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад +1

      I am not sure....I will shoot them an email to ask. I know that the 1250-K is very powerful, and if you had to choose....I would go with that one.

    • @shermanj4121
      @shermanj4121 8 лет назад

      ok great. Ya I saw your video on the 1250-k and fell in love with it. After doing my own research I found they have a 1200-k for about $70 cheaper. So if there's a big difference I'll make the investment in the 1250-k if not then I'll save the money. Thanks again

    you can using to see rpm on chainsaw?

  • @APprojection
    @APprojection 7 лет назад

    You do realise that 1500 RPM is synchronous speed, meaning that it will never reach 1500, with load or without. Considering it is a small motor, this offset is very normal, because losses are quite big.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  7 лет назад

      +APprojection so how do you explain the tools that test above the stated rating?

    With the bit in the chuck, isn't it technically under load? The listed rpm are usually under no load, correct? Informative review anyway, seems like a cool product.

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад

      +Seth Bracken I just rechecked it with a fresh battery....zero difference in RPMs in both speeds with & without the bit installed. 100% identical readings. Thanks for the question! 👍

    So why does the factory rate them at a certain rpm but in real world it turns out lower? Is this a straight blatant lie to sell tools?

    • @RealToolReviews
      @RealToolReviews  8 лет назад +1

      It's called 1-upping......the torque specs are BY FAR the most blatant exaggeration......well that & HP/amp ratings on corded tools/compressors/etc. It will be interesting to see which brands are the most "off" & which ones rate them accurately......time will tell.

    its rpm not rpms. The plural is taken care of in the acronym. (revolutions per min.) just how I see it, could be wrong.
