Kawaii does mean cute. But Kawaii was also a rebellious art movement. Kawaii art was cute in rebellion to the current social norm. Such as Hello Kitty. I mean you see it everywhere in Japan now. But it didn't used to be that way. So Kawaii Metal is a super cool and fitting name.

It's something that happens to everyone when they hear Babymetal for the first time, it's difficult to make sense of it at first since it's something that didn't exist before, Kawai Metal was created by them, so if you haven't heard them your brain won't know how to explain it. . By listening to more songs you will have all the answers to your questions :)

Fun fact: (since you mentioned them) BABYMETAL opened for Guns N' Roses in January 2017 in Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama and Saitama (the last two are considered Tokyo greater area).
They are very diverse musically since they like to mix any music genre with metal. So always expect the unexpected. 😁

BABYMETAL is better live than on studio recordings, but as for Monochrome, I highly recommend seeing the official music video and the piano version of The First Take. I think each of these can be interpreted in a completely different way.

Well originally They were one lead vocalist, two Background singer and dancer (Scream and Dance) but in 2017 Yui got sick and in 2018 she decided she would not return. Then they tried to relearn dancers that shared Yuis Position. And in 2023 they decided that Momo was her full Replacement, but it now looks like she is bigger than a Replacement. The girls look more and more like they recovered their Soul.

@@AlteredChat Yes and in fact they have changed but also thevperspective of them has changed. There were a lot of fans that worried what they did to Yui and how stronly they were controled. But after there contract was finished, they met in Tokyo rented their own Studio and after some time they went back to Koba and gave him a document what they wanted to return to Babymetal... the conditions were obviously not so terrible as speculated and if we consider that Yui was for Years one of the biggest authors of the Sakura Gakuin Yearbook, i don't think that she hates Amuse either.
Now we have a new Babymetal. At first Kobametal obviously did everything that his old girls were not financially overburdened. But now he is really in the Background and Babymetal dies most of their Interviews and Concerts by themselves.

GAnimal83 also told you who the ladies are and you asked their ages which he has also covered. Just consider they were aged 12 and 11 when they started in BABYMETAL in 2010 and they are nearly 14 years in now.
I think I told you most of this when you reacted to 'RATATATA', but I will repeat it in case you didn't see,
BABYMETAL are the best live entertainment of any kind that I've had the privilege to experience in person. You won't have seen or heard anything quite like them, they pioneered their own metal sub-genre fusing metal with J-Pop hooks, melodies and aesthetics (including introducing choreographed dance to metal ... yes they did that) and they are both original and unique.
BABYMETAL have nearly 70 songs now, each one different to the last - some are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots, they do everything in between and they will also mix and blend in so many other musical styles and genres with the metal. The whole thing was formed and developed around the lead singer Su-metal's vocal talents (yes Moametal and Momometal do sing as well, but mainly backing vocals, harmonies, leading the crowd chants and sing-alongs and so on) ... Su-metal was only 12 when they started and she is phenomenal.
Pick any live BABYMETAL song, you can't go wrong. 'Megitsune' live at PIA MM Arena from April 2023 (same concert as this video) would be a good one to do next. It is one of their earlier songs and it shows a lot of what they are all about.
Welcome to Babymetal. It's always such a treat to see somebody experiencing Babymetal for the first time. You did a nice job on the reaction and had a lot-understandably-of questions. Babymetal is the three ladies Su, lead vocals is 27, Moa stage right-she does backing vocals, is 25 and Momo-stage left the only non-OG in Babymetal is 21. They are an amazing and unique band with a long, complicated and fascinating history. Filled with much lore and mythos. I'm not going any deeper cause I'm sure at this point I'll just be repeating a lot of info provided by some of the Babymetal keepers of the lore. Enjoyed this introduction. The 'girls on the side', Moametal and Momometal (and Yuimetal in the past) have multiple jobs: dancer, backup singer,. but also very important: leading the crowd.
This wasn't very clear in these songs, but I suggest something like: Headbanger Legend 1997.
They actually opened for Guns in Roses in Japan (thus also Tokyo) in 2017. 4 shows, Osaka, Kobe, Tokyo.

There's this channel from a few years back by three Brazilian ladies totally into Babymetal.. it was one of my go to channels for a while, the reason being half of the time you can see in their faces they do not know what to make of the group but also loving every second the Babymetal girls performance. I guess there is not much value to "understanding Babymetal".. the point is just to enjoy getting your mind blown 😎

I am a huge Babymetal fan, and there are lots of songs you should listen to, Headbanger, Megitsune, IDZ. All a lot heavier than this one.

If you want the Babymetal videos with subs, the channel “For the Fox God” uploads those, I’d still recommend to also watch them without subs, to appreciate all the art the girls put into the show and not get distracted reading the subs at the same time.

i thought i was losing my mind with my headphones because the sound kept going very low, but its your audio in the video. 6:02 to 6:12 one example. last one that happened though.
My guess is that it's because of copyright. If you use a whole book, it's not a citation anymore. Similar with music. Hence, if you make gaps it's a "citation" of music. For people who want to listen to the song, there is always the original video.

Yes dancing is in all of their songs. Since they always want to reach their female Fans this is important. This is Babymetal or if you want the Genre they called it Kawai Metal, but in Reality it is better recogniced as Babymetal, since they are by far the biggest and international only Band with these features.
And thy do this since 14 years, although Sus Voice now is a power of her own. And as we see they slowly regain their internal voices, after all this time as they tried to function as a duo. But I get slowly the feeling that they are stronger than ever before.

It makes sense that they act cute, because that's what made them famous. Music is an industry. Every band plays a role. The fact is, they invented a whole new style and embraced this idea... That's really cool.

The result you can see in todays Babymetal concerts, about 40% female fans, all age groups between 5 and 85. Not really normal statistics of metal bands. But step by step he got bigger audiences. One of the main factors, Metallica observed them. And when they planbed their first International Festival itvwas between 1.000 to 4.000 planned, and then went "Give me Chocolate" viral and Metallica published a raving Review abd the Festival pushed them to the Main stage (60.000+). 2014 Sonicsphere. There were all possible Threads, butvafter their Concert "We want more" and since then they were usual guests in the US and Europe. This made then to the International most successful japanese Band. While you find bigger Acts in Japan, they became highly influential in the japanese Metal Scene. Simply through their existance. Whenca Band reached International Markets no Label destroys this Band. They might be setting on Diamonds. And this is thevreasons for Japans today huge female metal Scene.

Monochrome (2023) has 3 versions, all deeply moving in their own way.
The lyric video is seen as an eulogy to the WWII Hiroshima victims. 'Blame' it on the MV video director for choosing such visual imagery, but Su (who's from Hiroshima) & BM svengali Kobametal have acknowledged this perception without commenting further. Let's face it: such an admission will only rile up the left & right wings in Japan, its neighbors, as well as render it awkward for American fans (whose country did the nuking).
The First Take piano version is seen as a tribute to their younger selves. Ex-member Yuimetal is metaphorically the 3rd hooded figure. BM had previously tackled the theme in their Karate MV (2016) where they helped each other up & fought hooded/masked villains who, when finally shattered, turned out to be themselves (inner fears). Remember, the BM girls had bravely embraced heavy metal in 2010 (at ages 11-13) & were loudly bullied by metal gatekeepers in 2014 (at ages 15-17).
The live version epitomizes BM profoundly appreciating their fans who shared their journey. What an eloquent & artistic expression of solidarity it is turning out to be every time they perform it. In the clip you reacted to, Su & Moa were 26 & 24 while Momo was 20 (& newly-promoted to permanent BM member). She was otherwise still a non-miked side dancer when the lyric video & First Take version were initially released.
Since you asked, BM is built around Su as lead singer (acclaimed), & Moa/Momo as 'hype women' who work the crowd & lessen Su's dance choreography workload. The two BM sidekicks previously performed as Black Babymetal (ironically to more brutal metal songs) until the subunit was shelved after 2017 when Yui left. Since then, Su had shown her versatility by crushing the savage 'BxMxC' on her own. Moa has proven her singing ability (see 'Moabanger 2019') & can probably front her own Jpop girlgroup, but said she is content being a sidekick to Su. Momo has musical theater experience like Su, & is still showcasing her talents (see 'Momobanger 2024' & 'Meta Taro 2024' to hear her vocals, & 'Metali' & 'Ratatata' live for her growls/roars).
Behind the frontwomen, Team Babymetal also comprises the Kami Band who play the music live, Hidefumi Usami who does the live sound engineering, Mikikometal who devises the dance moves, Masaki Noguchi who conceives the stage costumes, Koba & his team of producers who create the songs, the scenic designers who conceptualize the concert stages in Japan, & most of all, the fans whose crowd participation makes each live experience so immersive.

*About the ladies:*
Momometal, stage left, is the newest member who supported Babymetal after original 3rd member Yui left in 2018. She became official 3rd Apr 2023. Don’t let her peachy smile fool you, during her 21st Birthday concert Mar 2024, she went from cute to Godzilla in an instant, and let out a nasty growl.
The Queen… I mean, Su-metal, now 26, is the lead vocalist. She is an original members since 2010. Despite her youth and elegance, she’s bonafide S-Tier Stage General who can split a 20K crowd faster than Moses does the Red Sea for an epic wall of death and circle pits. Oh, and she sounds amazing while doing choreography.
Moametal, 24, stage right, is also an original member. She’s been with her bestie Su since the start. Moa leads the choreography and a lot of the crowd engagements, and she is a solid vocalist, an amazing dancer, and the queen of hilarious stage antics lol.
The badasses in the back are the Kami band, Babymetal’s live backing band. And these guys are amazing musicians.
You wanna see true power metal? How about a song that had Dragonforce involvement?

I'm a die hard old metalhead. I found these ladies when they first came on the scene. I was initially put off but the music was good and there was something undeniable about these young women. Lots of the metal community scorned them because they did not follow the traditional formula. End of the day they are a group of artists that produce great music and clearly love the Metal genre. You'll get lots of suggestions for songs from different shows etc. For my money nothing compares to them in a smaller venue with a scaled back show. The girls are front and center and not drowning in a huge stage, they are sharing the stage with their band who is also front and center. Also, I find the Japanese Blu-Ray releases a little too polished. Which is not really how they sound live. There is a killer YT video from Jakarta 2023. It's an entire concert melded together from over 100 fan recordings of the show. It puts you right in the audience, worth checking out. Good luck on your journey!

Su-metal has been the lead singer since BABYMETAL began in 2010.
They other members provide back up vocals.
There have been a few occasions where one of the other members has taken the lead, like performances of 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' that celebrated one of their 15th or 20th birtdays.
Moa (still with the group) and Yui (who left in 2018 for health reasons) used to perform four songs without Su as "Black BABYMETAL".
Moa has performed some of those songs as a solo.
The concert venue for this performance was PIA Arena in Yokohama.
Yokohama is Japan's second largest city, after Tokyo.
In this Video (2023) Su, the singer, is 25 or 26, Moa (pigtails) is about 2 years younger, and Momo (on the left) is I believe 20 in this. For reference, Su was born in 1997 and Moa on the 4th of July 1999 (this is where the Legend 1997 and Legend 1999 concerts get their name). Momo just joined officially not much before this concert. some of the videos their literally 15 and 13 years old. Younger if you do Doki Doki Morning original video.

BABYMETAL's dancing is not just dancing. They gesture the words and meanings of the lyrics through their dance.
BABYMETAL is a sub-genre name at the same time as the group name, meaning a newly born genre.

This song is the "monochrome firework" which is the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima (where Su-Metal comes from). It is actually about finding positive lightness in darknss, this is the context of the break in the middle where Su-metal ask the audience to "light up the darkness with your lights" in Japanese.
Moa-Metal and Momo-Metal are "dance and scream". They sing backing on songs - here they are doing the oh-oh-oh backing, and always use head mics. Moa-metal does more singing in other songs and both Moa-metal and Momo-metal have sung lead on their birthdays to Headbanger and Meta-Taro. Moa-metal has a sweeter/softer voice and has a beautiful sound, while momo-metal has an Anime higher register voice, also very sweet sounding.
Babymetal started around 2012 when Su-Metal was around 14 and Moa-metal and Yui-metal (left due to unknown health issues) were 12. They did start earlier at Music school/and follow on, and defining when babymetal really started is difficult - look up the history. The band is built around Su-Metals vocals, there is nothing like her, she is known as the "Queen of metal" and has been on stage with some of the biggest bands, played the biggest venues in the world.
The band (Kami band - here the western band, there is an Easter band - even better) are some of the best musicians in the business - they love to back babymetal (the singers) as they are told to play as hard as they like, Su-metal can sing right through anything - she is just such an amazing - god tier - singer .
One of the more extraordinary concerts for me is Sonosphere 2014 UK, it was their main break into Europe and the world where they were supposed to play on a minor stage with say 5000 people, but were moved to the main stage with 65,000 UK metal heads that don't take things lightly, with about 1000 fans that already knew them at the front , the rest, never heard of them. They did 5 songs and it starts with looks of "WTF" on the crowd, by the 3rd song the crowd is beginning to join in (You are required to join in with backing and charting at a baby metal concert or Su-Metal will give you the death stare). By the last song the crowd were charting "more more" and were in love with these (then) 15 year old Su-Metal and 14 year backing singers. There is small moment at the end where Su-metal just looks at the crowd and realises she did it - amazing moment.
If you liked this you will fall very quickly in the fox hole - and you are trapped for ever.
Recommendations : nearly always live - they sound better live and in your face.
Monochrome firework : first take - Look up what "first take" is, here Su-Metal (and Moa-metal) sing this song as a Ballard - it will rip your heart out and tear it into little pieces.

Nice reaction, the PIA Arena 2023 concerts are generally safe to react to without a watermark, but then I haven't seen many reactors from Brazil, so it could be different in your region. The channel you pulled that from almost never has subtitles, the other big ones like For The Fox God, who? as well as my small channel all do have subtitles in some form. FTFG seems to just machine translate, who? does an alright job, and I do translation/timing.
Monochrome would probably best be defined as melodic metalcore. For power metal I would suggest Road of Resistance, and for more metalcore I would suggest Megitsune, both Live at PIA Arena 203. They dive into other metal genres as well including djent, groove, speed, etc.

The crowd isn't normally setup like that, it's probably a venue regulation, or whatever other reason.
So, first you edit out the first minute of the video. Then you blur the video and THEN you put an overlay on the video. Seriously?? And to make this disaster even worse, your audio cuts completely out several times. Doing all this does NOTHING to prevent a copyright strike. There are hundreds of reactor videos to this performance and 99% of them don't do this BS. If you don't know how RUclips works, then get off of it kid. Duh. Unbelievable.
Really nice text… but u forgot just one thing… the other reactors are not from Brazil… here we dont have the same law as others countries… the fair use law…
