Thank you for the kind words. A lot of the older model reels have great character in addition to wonderful designs, which are missing in modern reels - Dennis

I have a number of J C Higgins reels. The two best ones I have are large Bretton saltwater spinning reels made in France. I’ve fished them both and they did quite well. I don’t have a Shakespeare 2065 but I have worked on a few though. I love the mechanism inside this reel. It is unique among the Shakespeare reels of this era. Beautiful video and excellent work! - Chris

This reel is in amazing shape but some of the beauty in these vintage reels to me is how restorable they are internally. I fish a couple Special Senator 4/0's that looked awful internally when i bought them but if you're willing to put in the time you can bring these old reels back to prestine condition. Maybe externally they wont look amazing but the materials internally can be restored to like new condition.

So true. Most of the cosmetic damage is external and the internal parts do not generally wear on these old Penn Reels. Items like drag washers and springs fail with use, but the rest of the internal parts were so over-engineered that they rarely are a problem once the old dirt and debris are cleaned away and a fresh coat of oil and grease applied. That applies to these Shakespeare reels as well - Thanks for sharing - Dennis

I’ve been hesitant to pick these reels up as I didn’t know if they were the same quality as the Royal Maroon reels that I have collected over the years. Glad to know your positive opinion on these or any other reels.

These were very well made, just like the Royal Maroon series. If you see one, get one!
