- Jamie, Annabbella and I head into the Urban Jungle to rescue a rare and desirable 1968 Buick Riviera Grand Sport that has been in a concrete tomb for the past ten years. Will we be able to make it run?
In 1987 I picked up a NON-GS '68 Riv for a winter beater for $175. 430-4 with 360hp. It was a Very fun car. Yours is too nice to part out. Turn it into a nice driver. You'll do well.
The Buick 430 put out 360 HP and 475 ft lbs of Torque. Great engines and even got decent gas mileage.
My dad had one of these beautiful cars when i was a teanager. I drove it all the time. I would love to have one now. Such great memories
That is a nice Buick Riviera GS, it worth saveing I had a 1966 a 1967 a1968 1970 and a 1971 beautiful cars ;-)
Reminds me of the '70 Rivera I had back in the early 80s... LOVED that car!! my GOD that thing was fast with that 455 4-barrel! one of the best cars I ever owned.. I do miss it.
You might need a new oil pump
Nice save with the Riviera Rick. It sure looks awesome out in the sunlight, even for its age. “Geraldo” is perfect. 👍🏼😄 Great video! Thank you.✌🏼👍🏼🤘🏼😎
Wow, what a find !! Love it. Definitely worth saving / restoring. Don't break up one that's that complete.
Two things when I see that car. What a beauty! What a beast!
I really love the lines and the colors.
What a find....LOVE IT! It fell into the right hands, thanks so much for the video and good luck with her. God Bless.
Thank you too!
michigan home town of BUICK F Factory was on the north end of town.
I like that car! Pretty clean and solid! You just clean the floor, I would put gravel guard on it, and a new carpet and bingo! The dent, on the side, you fix it when you can, it doesnt affect the car running... very good save!
Reminds me of the '70 Rivera I had back in the early 80s... LOVED that car!! my GOD that thing was fast with that 455 4-barrel! one of the best cars I ever owned.. can't remember now why I got rid of it.. oh yeah, now I remember.. got 8 MILES to the GALLON! I was a poor college student at the time.. couldn't afford to keep gas in it LOL!! I do miss it, though.
Hank, thanks for being honest about the mileage you got with these cars. You get people claiming they got 10 or 20+ mpg out of their 1969 or 1970 Electra....I have to laugh !- I have some of each of these cars and now have a 74 Buick Century GS 455 (Built to High compression specs) and I have always gotten around 7 or 8 MPG. My 69 Electra convert maybe got 10 MPG with the rebuilt engine and carb.
What an awesome car and what a good year. Take care God bless
What a great car. I would run it just as it is. Back in the days when styling was still important.
The first car I had was a ‘69 Riv. I pulled it out of my dads pasture when I was 14. Rebuilt it from the ground up in about 2 1/2 years. Got rear ended going to school. Sure miss that ol car. Taught me a lot though.

The Old Man had this massive stretch model '73 Fleetwood Broughm, White with a red leather interior, with the 472 and enough room to stuff five adults in comfort and all our gear inside for a long distance trip to Idaho. That thing was a spectacular long distance cruise mobile like the Starship Enterprise. Just set the cruise control on 75 and walk past everyone uphill, down hill whatever, in comfort and style. Like driving in your living room.. Miss that car, we sold it in Albuquerque. My brother used it for rolling parties in high School and it became locally famous and gained a nickname... It was "The Popemobile" people knew you had "arrived" when you showed up!
Awesome...some cars become famous for the services they provide....
Awesome choice ! The Riv is my favorite car since childhood.
You guys are great doing what you do, keep it up as long as you have Money
Thank you! Will do!
What a gorgeous car. Look's in fantastic condition for its age.
It really is!
That Buick Riviera Is Very Nice & Would Make A Great Product! 👍
I agree. Thank you. -Rick
Part it out? Hell no! That's a classic!
Somebody loved and cared about it for a long time.
Wow..... Truck/ Buick inspector and an assistant winch operator..... What a team!!!!!!
That car was worth going and getting. Looks like someone really cared for it. Its worth going through putting some money into it and keeping. Its probably a good riding car. Those old Buicks and Oldsmobiles just hugged the road.
Yes, they really did, the wide track helped, my 68 Wildcat was great on the twisty roads.
Great video and adventure! Thanks for taking us along. Watching from North Carolina.
Thanks for watching!
I was raised up around all those ole trucks you have and the one that my uncle had I really remember is a 59 EL Camino white on red. Keep looking for you to get one but haven't seen you with one yet, gosh I loved that vehicle my uncle owned.😆
That's awesome. Can't wait to see the progress of the ole girl.
Hey Rick hey Jamie thank you both for the video and yes I was in your livestream didn't go too well but hopefully it'll work out better next time happy you save this one too
You did good saving this one needs a little work and a lot of Love
Had one just like that.G`day from Sydney Australia.
Rear of the car resembles the 1972 Grand Prix, had me one of them, loved that car!
More like a Monte Carlo in my opinion.
man thats a nice car. i would be keeping that one for sure. great find
I think that is a keeper, cars like that you don*t see anymore.
As I recall, the headlights open and close with vacuum. Might be wrong tho. But when he scrapes the door across the fender! Ouch! Great car, tho. Had a friend who drove one in high school. LOVE the style!
You are correct
Can't wait to see it finished
Save it if you can. She's a beauty!
Saved.
It sure looks like the bat cave, but that is some car, with all the bell*s & whistles, love the way you have 2 assistants annabelle& your wife, who is the one that has the final say.
I guess the person paying for the Rescue has the final say...that's usually me...LOl. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
Great find.....love it.
Real classic
Loving the vids Rick .glad your channel isnt slowing down !
Hey what a sweet find. How could anyone call that car junk? They're totally clueless. For a car that is 52 years old, I'd say it's in really good shape. I live just outside of Portland, so I just had to watch!
Good save on the big,bad, Buick.Sure is a keeper,fixer upper,makes a good weekend cruzer.Enjoy the ride.
Glad it started. If you baby that motor it could last quite a while. If I had bought the car, I would no doubt have the engine done, as I am only going to scorch a bearing on an old engine like that - the big Blocks are too much fun to lean into - ya Know? Been there a few times with Buicks...lol!
Nice looking car I like it hope Jamie is doing better
Love them old buicks classics
Had I seen this at the time , would have bought it from you sir !! Been looking for a late 1960's Riviera for some time now .
Nice to see the buick got home get under cuver reel quick then get to that pole barn all the best
That's it rick get ur done gods speed but dont go herting your self in the proses 😉
Very nice people. Thanks.
Thank you Ben!
Her hood and left fender have been painted. GREAT bones tho easy resto
WOW ! WOOW ! WOOOW ! COMPLIMENTI ! 👀🤯💓💪🤙🇲🇾🗽🏆
Not all GS's had the sport console. Some had the bench seat. It does have the right larger base air opening the chrome lid sits on. Alot of people just switch the lids to chrome without realizing the GS bases are also different.
Nice Rivera, not that hard to restore and will be a great car to restore! Enjoy it! John
PDR would take care of that dent in the left fender and you could live with the scrape on the right rear wheel well! Just thinking of keeping it original. A good clean and buff and she would be awesome.
there is a dent on the other side wing right on the swag line at the front
I luv these 66-70 Rivera's I'm been working Amt 1/24 scale 66 model as ledsled custom.
I had a car just like this. Bought a 69 Riviera in Kentucky, in 2007. Fixed brakes and was driving daily. brought the car back to nj but had to sell.
Man that is in great shape for a 1968 for sure. My mom use to talk about those she might have liked them I think. The fender dent might pull out with a plunger. Someone will want that car its nice. I bet it drives like a Cadillac. Its really in super nice condition. on the body. You can tell its been inside all of its life. Hope you can get out of the rain. Get that building done I know your working hard on it have not seen a update on that lately. That car is great! Look at the wear on the break peddle for how many miles it has. If its not worn much it may be 28 thousand miles. That was an easy start wow. But it needs an oil pressure gauge installed so you can see if its pumping oil. Is the oil pressure light coming on? Old American iron yeah buddy. We called them carbs quadra Junk. But its working aint it? so let it be.
The car is immaculate even that dent can be popped out no problem wow what a nice car
Great video Rick and Jeanie real cool car all the best from your fans in the UK as you say peace out
Check the firing order for that misfire. I was forever replacing headlight fuses. A lot of us cut the A/C belt in the 70's when gas prices started going up but the R12 is likely to low now to kick the compressor anyway. The seals back then didn't hold up so well. I would also check compression. I seem to recall you saying it was pretty low milage but that oil level makes me wonder if there was a known oil leak when it was parked.
Who cares about the mileage the body is solid . Thats a keeper for sure .The hood was painted so what ,solid car . A friend has one ,5 mpg but who cares it runs .
Nice rescue hope you find it a good home
that is an awesome find rick and jamie....take that sweet car home and get her purring!
We're working on it Cliff. Thanks Fer Watchin'. -Rick
So lucky to find a master piece
That shifter is great
I like it too. Thanks.
Love the car brother. Save it.
Awesome video Rick! Great find and a great car!
That's one beautiful car I love the 68 year cars and trucks
It sure is!
She’s alive! Fired up real quick The weight of your body dropped the doors a tad bit lower. I had to crawl in and out the window one night towing my 57 Ford Fairlane, and all by myself.
I noticed that myself...need to go on a diet maybe...-Rick
I got 1967 Pontiac in Ethiopia and I love it
If I understand correctly....and you are driving a '67 Pontiac in Ethiopia....? You have my absolute respect for that! Please send a photo to rick@classictruckrescue.com
Classic Truck Rescue I tried to send u the pic but I couldn’t access your blog I think I can send u by telegram this is my No +251913076060 my name is avner
I checked your web and I like the hats u have 👍🏼
The oil pump on that should be part of the timing chain cover and you can get to the relief spring right from the outside. Maybe the spring is broken or the valve is stuck. An oil pump comes as a kit, relief valve, spring, and new gears. Sure wish I could afford that one.
Agreed. This (low oil pressure) could be a result of worn pump gears. A Buick tech told me about that thirty years ago.
The gears are subject to premature wear when a new oil filter is installed without pre-filling it with oil, over several oil changes. Minor wear is noticable on start-up (noise). More serious wear may result in the lifter noise.
Possibly, who ever rebuilt the engine overlooked the pump gears. The engine should be in good shape otherwise, with 42,000 miles on the rebuild.
Yes definitely save it that's a sweet car
That was deff worth it rick....nice car brother!
That's a jewel guys don't get rid of that car they're rare things didn't make that many rivies. I had a buddy that had a 67 Riviera he got it when his mom got a new car that car was awesome I've never seen another one like it this was back in the '70s all I know it was white interior with a red body red paint I had a 401 in it that's a trip but this one has a 4:30 it probably gets it he'll probably end up keeping that car.
Boy, i would like to have to restore even if i am 84 years old. I could handle it.
buock os a cool ride . keep it .your well enjoy that car . flint Michigan build a few here .gordpn
Right on
Well hello it Halloween night in FLINT MICHIGAN.2021 .why as said Buick was built on the North End of Flint. Say also on south Saginaw Street. Where
Nack To The Bricks held every year for tribute to GM vehicles.from chevy 2 nova kidd flint mi.
I think it's beautiful!
Love old Buick’s. Wish I could buy it from you. 😕
Hey Rick & Jamie! Love your channel! Can you tell me what is the guitar music you use to close out your video? I really like it! Starts in this video about 1hr 3 min. Into video. - Thanks!
Take a ruler and line up the first and last number and see if all the numbers line up.
42:34 - "10 extra horse power" and epic smile...hahahaha...happy man
Beautiful car, i would have it in a heart beat ;)
Wow cool car.
Its gonna need new wheel cylinders they leaked all the brake fluid out so you know they are bad. Maybe the master might leak too but maybe not? It runs. It could be a grounding issue and the ground needs cleaned but it is probably the head light switch since the dash lights aint working too. That is a very good thing it starts and runs and drives. Running and driving is great thing. Victory.
!00% save it !
They will never make cars look this again and its got " The inspector Generals approval "
👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💪that is some muscle car, that dent you can take it out easily.
They say ciao in Italy !
I know...I was in a rush...and shame on me since my Grandma Yolanda Rosatti came over here from Italy and went through Ellis Island....

I agree and I will. Thanks, -Rick
Cherry thats sweet goregous ride
Geraldo Riviera that is awesome
Its perfect.
Love that classic Buick Riviera GS, what a find! Lots of hot rodders would love to buy it for sure. Great job.
You and me both! It's still here....I Dunn'o why.
Hi from Edward from North Carolina. nice car!
When it's "big as a Buick" it's almost a "classic truck"!
455 is alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know it's been a long time but Buick engines have an exterior oil pump and they tend to lose prime pull of cover and pack with assembly lube patrolium jelly it will get pressure prime with drill already run long enough
Gotta wonder if the pick up tube screen is clogged.
Got a 69 not a GSR but it has the 430 it looks identical to that one I started working on removing paint n primed it just didn't finish Have for s as le but after seeing this I think im going to find a way to finish it or unless someone gives a good offer I might let it go???
love the name. its a beautiful car
love the Riv's
