    "i mean we're already freezing from the anemia..so" lol I am so glad I found your channel. A little while back I went to give blood but they told me I couldn't because my iron was low so I went o the doctors and they said I had anemia but your channel has really helped me just figure things out and feel less alone I guess, so thank you :)

    I had my first iron infusion yesterday. (Venofer) They did not give me steroids, benedryl or zantac. They just hooked up the Saline first to the IV then they added the Venofer. Afterwards I was nauseated (I did not eat breakfast before I went, lesson learned) and I got a bad headache. The site of my IV hurt and felt very cold. This could be because the vein rolled as the nurse was inserting the needle so she had to dig around for it and the iron and saline are very cold. The nurses were very friendly and helpful. One even baked goodies for all the patients getting transfusions and chemo. I was thankful for that! Today I have felt dizzy and tired with the headache still pounding. I will have my infusions once a week for the next 6 weeks.
    I am glad I found your video's and learned about your organization. Thank you for sharing!

      Thank you so much! Yes, the protocols for infusions are changing and I think they are mostly given without steroids or antihistamines now. (I used to take a Claritin before mine.) I'm so glad I found your video. I have battled anemia for more than 12 years and am only now finding a doctor who wants to do something about it other than iron tablets. Those make me so sick on top of barely being able to function. I will have two rounds of iron infusions soon. I just met with the hematologist yesterday for the first time.
    All the other videos I found were mostly horror stories about the experience, or they didn't really give any good insight on what to expect.

    Great documentation of your experience. My iron levels were 2-4. I cut out all GLUTEN which blocks absorption, and my iron levels went back up to normal! It was a gluten allergy that was causing me to chase the symptoms (iron infusions) and not tackle the cause - Gluten. All is well now...as long as I avoid gluten which can be challenging. Iron infusions were a temporary "fix" for me.

    So glad to have found this video. I’m getting my first infusion in the upcoming weeks. I love the take of this topic, creating something more personal and comforting. I’ve had to do a good bit of research on low iron and how to treat it in the past several months for a potential job. This has been a draining and often discouraging journey and I have yet to come across something more informative and nerve easing as this video. It was crazy seeing all of the similarities and realizing I’m not alone but that there’s a whole community going through this at the same time I am. In addition, I loved hearing the part about your dad being a diabetic and growing up around needles because my dad is also a diabetic and I grew up always having to be pricked to check my glucose. I definitely believe that it contributed to my fear of needles as I got older. The good news is that I’m gradually facing my fears throughout this process and am slowly overcoming it! Anyways, thanks so much for making this video and good luck with getting your iron where it should be!

    Thank you, this is so helpful. I wish I could get an iron iv. I've been a vegetarian for 25 years....and not the healthy kind. I developed a strong taste for cola and coffee and just wanted to share my experience with others. I have a ferritin level of 10 and realized my insomnia, adrenal, and thyroid issues were related to my ferritin. They say that "pica"...the taste for dirt comes from being iron deficient and craving dirt...I realized my diet coke habit stopped when I started taking iron. Colas and coffee kinda taste like dirt to me. I have had bad experiences with iron supplements where my adrenals felt like they were going to bust....but found Pur Absorb Iron good and recently started doing "frozen liver pills" because they say copper/zinc/and iron are needed in order to increase ferritin iron stores. They say 80-100 is the Ferritin level to achieve. What I also understand is your Hemaglobin and Iron level can be good but ferritin low...if ferritin is low you're anemic...this is me. Had to share....and if you're doctor says you're within range...research online.

    I always get cold whenever I have any kind of IV. I kind of figured out that the reason why is probably because the IV solution is at room temperature which is usually much lower than body temperature. So when you're having that cool liquid pumped directly in your veins it tends to make you cold.

  • @Wishmaster333

    I'm supposed to go for my 1st infusion and I'm already considering not doing it. I already cancelled all of my November appointments. I feel there is something so unnatural about putting blackish sludge in your body. I decided to try dietary changes first with organic supplements of iron,folic acid and b12. After 4 weeks I'm not as fatigued,my period wasn't as heavy and I feel overall better. I have a little over a month before my first December appointment and I'm determined to change this naturally. I also don't like the idea of steroids in my body at all. I have steroid puffers and rarely use them. When I do I'm wired for hours and hours and I'm often awake like that for well over 30hrs. I truly believe anemia can be changed by altering your diet to include more leafy greens.

She gave me Tylenol in case of any fever which I didn't get. Then she ran saline first than steroids and the test iron. Just that alone took about 2 hours. My iron infusion was supposed to take 5 hours, but when my nurse read my chart she informed me that my hemotologist recommended it only be done for 3 hours. Overall it went well. I got a really bad headache and I've been feeling really tired and weak.

I don't think what I have is an Iron Disorder, but rather a just a horrid side effect of gastric bypass surgery. So big thank you!!!!

      Hello Phyllis! You are so welcome and thank you for your very kind words! I am so happy to know that this helped. Thank you for watching my video and supporting this community. I have had many infusions over the years, but it's been a number of years since I did this video. Personally, I found that time and time again, the IV iron did not "hold" and my ferritin just wouldn't stay up. You may want to check out my new iron supplement that I formulated and launched in 2018! After years of suffering and trying every iron supplement out there, I decided to just do it myself based on everything that I learned volunteering with the Iron Disorders Institute and after becoming one of the world's first and only Certified Iron Educators. The product is called Ferritin Boost and it's the only solution for my iron deficiency that actually worked long term! www.ironology.life

    I had my first fusion yesterday, February 13. When you had your fusion did you have a funny taste? I tasted celery, I mentioned it but nothing was said. I’m scheduled to have 5 minute fusion once a week for 6 weeks. Also I had a B12 injection yesterday, today and tomorrow. Thereafter once a month. I’m curious why your is given over hours vs mine (5 min). Although I was there an hour & a half.
    Thank you, Donna

  • @carascottvo

    Your ferritin should actually be much higher than 18- it should be at least 70 to prevent fatigue, hair loss, brittle nails, etc. Most doctors don't know this because the lab range is so broad.

    How do I advocate for myself to make sure they do my infusion slooow and to do small dose like half dose? I'm too sensitive post brain injury and I'm scared as hell but I really desperately need it . From me in New Zealand

  • @adahir100
    @adahir100 10 лет назад

    I had Venofer injections, with B-12 shots weekly 2 years ago. I didn't know there was a community for anemics and venofer patients. I had 10 weeks Venofer, starting ferritin level of 2 (extremely low). After 10 weeks of infusions, iron went up to 38, but then after a few months, it dropped back down again - hematologist was not sure why, colonoscopy did not reveal any GI bleed. I went through another 10 weeks of Venofer, second round. 10 months of B-12 injections, starting weekly first few months, then monthly. You were getting it every day? I got it once a week for 10 weeks. Its been 2 years, and even though my iron has fluctuated a bit, it has remained at about 40+ for the past 18 months or so, so no more injections. I now eat paleo, good quality red meat, lots of lentils and spinach (mostly green smoothies). I also take iron tablets 2 or 3 times a day, and hematologist thinks I am doing ok now. I hope you are doing well.

    • @adahir100
      @adahir100 10 лет назад

      How are you doing now? So glad someone made a video about this. Yes, the infusion clinic is filled with chemo patients, which makes you feel bad. I had PICA too, classic textbook, my doctor laughed about it because I was craving blood of raw meat, raw potato peels, and dirt lol. Now I don't, but I do love love love my lean red meat. I do still have to take iron tablets and B-12 but am holding my own. Have you had to have any more iron infusions? I did 20 weeks total Venofer once weekly, B-12 montly for almost a year but have been OK for the past year or 18 months. I never used the Claritin or steroids, and I was OK. I didn't get Benadryl either, guess I was not as sensitive to it, no allergic reactions.

    I don't understand.....First of all, HUGE fan and longtime subscriber of yours! My doctor knows that I'm an iron deficient anemic due to heavy and painful periods. My iron level is 7.5 and he said that the only reason he would give me iron infusions is if I have kidney or renal failure. Now, I know a couple of people who do and who don't, but those who don't still got the infusions. Why not me? I'm trying to be objective with this although I am soooo drained and am losing my quality of life. Please help!

      Try and get a infusion mine is 5 ferritin is 29 but I feel dead literally my hemoglobin may not be considered as being soo severe but we are all different our bodies react differently I have to pay my GP in the UK won't give me a infusion on the NHS she says only if you HB is 7. I think that's ridiculous.

      bustinasscoach Yeah I'm going private gps just know how to give these iron tablets which cause havoc on the stomach. It takes forever to make a difference. Doctors never consider any alternative medicine when in actual fact for other ailments of mine I've improved them and practically cured it too. Their pills are poison all they ever did was cause side effects.

    I don't understand why they say ferritin levels between 12-150 for females is normal. why is there such a huge gap? 12 sounds way too low to me. Mine is 45 now, when I first started out it was 6. I still feel the same though, even though it has been since November 2018. Still really tired, weak and bruise easy. I'm technically no longer anemic, but I still feel no different from when I first started taking the pills.
