The Swivel seats and the Imperial " Mobile Director". Hood ornaments and of course the flip-up headlights or hidden headlamps like Lincolns, Imperials and many more . Please keep'em coming
I miss the old "wing" (vent) windows and the foot switch radio tuner the most. Also, some cars had a light that went on when you turned showing the way.
Back in the day, when most cars had ‘vent windows,’ everybody called them ‘wing windows.’ And I mean everyone. I never even heard the term vent window until many years after they were gone.
You forgot the crank handle that was used to start the car if the battery was a bit flat or on cold mornings. Many a time I had sore hands because of the kick back they had. Cheers.
Push button automatic transmissions ended because the government mandated that starting in 1965 all manufacturers would use the PRNDL indicator. Up until 1964 many GM cars used PNDLR indicators. I had a friend who after driving a FORD all week with PRNDL took his '59 BUICK out on the weekend and when he came to a hill he grabbed the lever to throw it in LOW, however, he ended up putting the BUICK in reverse while going down hill . It locked up the transmission, we all got out and rocked the car and it unlocked and continued on without a problem.
Swivel seats were used in some MPV's in the 80's, maybe not quite the same as they did not swing round when the door opened by were used to create tables in between the front and rear seats. Rolls-Royce still had bonnet ornaments (Spirit of Ecstasy) until quite recently which retracted when in an accident, but don't know if that worked though. I don't know if the mentioning of T-Shaped gear levers (Shifters) was the innovation as they are still used today (mainly in automatics). Known as quarterlights in the UK (Window vents) still exist on some cars but they are now fixed so do not open any longer.
The '61-'66 T Birds had the swivel seat, with the swing away steering column. My aunt had twin '64's with both features. The 1956 Oldsmobile car had the pull out radio option. The radio could be pulled out and used in close proximity to the car.
My late father owned a Ford Galaxy 1959,it had a Phillips record player which was amplified by a Supersonic radio we had no problems.I still have the record player
When I was a kid we and some friends were making fun of someone and they ran into a back of a car and cut themselves.. still feel guilty about that today be good to people
My sister had 45 player in her Plymouth, it played the records upside down and you could stack about 5 records, after one played it would drop into a tray on the bottom.
Car top tents are still very much a thing. My 1985 Dodge Ramcharger 4X4 truck had a hood ornament shaped as a ram's head. Some cars had them into the 90s. The Hurst shifter is still being used. The original "Hurst Performance" company was sold in 1970 to Sunbeam Products, with the shifters continuing production and use. Later the Hurst company was sold again, but is still in use.
My 2002 Toyota Camry couldn't handle a car top tent. I don't think any car smaller than the Ford Crown Victoria or the old GM B-Bodies could handle them.
5:10 The Cartop Tent is still very popular in Australia. I'd never seen one prior to my two-week trek through the Outback in 2019 in a pulled caravan. Few people had ground tents. I figured with Australia's infamous creepy crawlies and slitherings, people wanted off the ground.
Just found this channel, subscribed Immediately!! Being a car guy since I was a kid growing up during the 70s . The 70s is when Detroit was still building cars WE wanted, remember those days????
To me, the mid 60s was the height of car culture. The number of options was something. Some car options - 2 door or 4 door, notchback or fastback, hardtop or sedan, sport options (Chevy SS and so) station wagon and even a pickup truck bed, seat cloths or plastic, interior trim options, exterior options, engine (many choices), transmission manual or automatic, shifter (column or floor), wheel options and hubcaps, radio AM, AM/FM, and even cassette. Then the color - any color paint. There were other options, too many to list. buying a car today how many option choices do people have? What I mean choice innovation also no longer exist.
I just found my old 4 track in the attic! Also an old 8 track!Do you remember wedging a matchbook underneath whatever 8 track tape that was "double tracking" so it wouldn't play 2 songs at the same time?Ah,good times!
There is a very rare car parked about a mile away from my house ! It is a 1970 or 71 chrysler 300H factory Hurst addition and the thing is in amazing condition for being parked outside under covered parking with no cover over it! I just hope it doesn't end up burned up by a careless resident of the apartments.
This younger generation is missing out on front bench seats. Straddling a center console is no fun. Get it? I also miss the wing windows. The electric ones that go up and down don't count. You could use them for ventilation in bad weather and not soak the inside. It was also useful for smokers. They sucked the smoke out and the ashes with a simple flip. Speaking of bad weather. I find it extremely irritating not have roof gutters. They actually work quite well for keeping the water run off from coming in a slightly opened window. Gee. Bring back the wing windows and you wouldn't need the gutters.
The flaw in the record player was it required specially formatted records, which could only be found at a dealership. They were also subject to warping if you left them in the sun
Odd that the tail fins on the late fifties cars were considered "futuristic" at the time. Since 70 years later they still have not returned! Actually, tail fins were just "late fifties-istic." 😅
On clutch type transmissions, in todays world where automatic transmissions rule, manual shift transmissions, with the cutch, can be theft deterrent devices. if you leave the transmission in high gear, some people can not figure out how to get the car going, maybe not even start it. Theft deterrent by old knowledge.
I loved the sliding vents on the side under the dash of my 1968 AMC Javelin and 1968 AMC AMX 2-seater. Very nice in summer highway cruising as I didn't have AC. 😊 We called vent windows "Poor Man's AC". 👍
How could they make a record that could play in a moving car without skipping and jumping all over the place due to the motion of the car. I can remember playing records at home as a kid that would skip if you walked across the room too hard.
I am 72 the records were not special they were regular 45's every record player in the country played them there was a special adapter to play them they were sold when someone had a hit song and you just wanted the one song the other side had some off the wall single the artist had out all ready i had a 62 Impala with one of those players in it and it played all my 45's.
Nobody wants a record player their car today. And they didn't work well when they were available. They skipped when car went over bumps, every few minutes another record would have to found and loaded into player when song ended. Talk about driver distraction.
specially made mini records... Nope not watching this. Lost both cases resulting in the banning of tail fins. Makes no sense. Definitely not watching anymore of this video.
Which of these old car features would YOU like to bring back?
Vent Windows
The Swivel seats and the Imperial " Mobile Director". Hood ornaments and of course the flip-up headlights or hidden headlamps like Lincolns, Imperials and many more . Please keep'em coming
Swivel Seats was a realy cool idea.
I guess when they put a vinyl player in a car, they forgot that road bumps is a thing.
It's as smart as playing vinyl with a huge subwoofer.
The swivel seat is pretty cool. They need to bring it back for senior citizens.
I miss seeing those tailfins on the road.
Onboard record players didn't use a ''new format,'' but 45'' single records. The ''big'' records are 33" - FYI
Yes, I wondered about the video's claim that they were special / specific format records!
I miss the old "wing" (vent) windows and the foot switch radio tuner the most. Also, some cars had a light that went on when you turned showing the way.
Hood ornament! Amazing! 🤩
AMC Pacer did not have vent windows. It was a ridiculously huge wind up window the length of the doors. I learned to drive in a 1976 Pacer.
Chrysler push button was not electric, it was cable
Correct. And it still works perfect on my 62 Valiant
This is groovy man😊😊😊😊
Back in the day, when most cars had ‘vent windows,’ everybody called them ‘wing windows.’ And I mean everyone. I never even heard the term vent window until many years after they were gone.
I thought the SAME THING!We also called them wind wings, but to my knowledge NEVER vent windows!SAME,as far as never hearing that term before!
You forgot the crank handle that was used to start the car if the battery was a bit flat or on cold mornings.
Many a time I had sore hands because of the kick back they had.
Cheers.
When you were young you looked forward to the future. Now you’re nostalgic for the past. 🤔
Oh those caves and tiger hunts. Rubbing two sticks for fire.
Those were the good old days.
The entire episode was compiled by a non-human agent.
It's because we were lied to. The future was supposed to be awesome, not awful
😅@@Zerozerozerozero00qQ
That’s because somewhere in-between were the best years of our lives. 🫠

LOL, new format, they were just 45s like in a juke box.

Yes. Everything there wants to kill you.
I bet you can’t get that License Plate starting at the 2:17 Minute Mark anymore.
Those Chrysler hood ornaments are murder.

This is so cool❤❤❤❤

Wheel options are finally becoming available-useless hubcaps still available and make any vehicle look lame
My dad’s office manager had a Plymouth Hemi with a 45 Record Player (‘61-‘62).
My dad had an Imperial convertible with the Swivel Seats.
The automobile record player was just before the 8 track player boom. The era also produced a 4 track version.
I just found my old 4 track in the attic! Also an old 8 track!Do you remember wedging a matchbook underneath whatever 8 track tape that was "double tracking" so it wouldn't play 2 songs at the same time?Ah,good times!
1959 caddy. My fav automobile.
Where is the picture at 11:43 taken? Was it Karmann in Germany or even at AMAG in Switzerland?

I’d love to get my hands on a car record player. My uncle had one in the late 60s Thought it was the coolest thing ever at the time
The flaw in the record player was it required specially formatted records, which could only be found at a dealership. They were also subject to warping if you left them in the sun
Car top tents are still around. Just not really practical in price. Like 20 times the cost of the tent itself for some reason
Odd that the tail fins on the late fifties cars were considered "futuristic" at the time. Since 70 years later they still have not returned! Actually, tail fins were just "late fifties-istic." 😅
Let’s play, Count the Inaccuracies.
Way too many.
Lost count! WTF! Is it artificial idiocy?
Hurst out of business by 1970...????
I think I need to replace the clutch petal in my automatic car. It's been missing since I bought it.
Record players we're replaced by 8 ,track players and cassette players
Wondering why car tents are listed here. It’s still something we use today unlike all the others listed.
That’s a pretty good point.
I never knew about them.
I don’t camp, I want one though.
What clutch pedal? Push button start- ??
these swiffle seats, are now only optional (and very expensive) for disabled persons. Its a pitty that good inventions disappear.

Theft deterrent by old knowledge.
Automatic transmissions, you talk about the States. Over in Europe, at least, clutch transmission is still the golden standard!
The rear vents were to let air out, they worked well with the vents under the dash open, to let air flow out the back of the passenger compartment
I loved the sliding vents on the side under the dash of my 1968 AMC Javelin and 1968 AMC AMX 2-seater. Very nice in summer highway cruising as I didn't have AC. 😊
We called vent windows "Poor Man's AC". 👍

What about the tank outside the car window as air conditioning in the 30s I think 🤔
Record players were an automotive accessory all along as they are older than the automobile. You need to your research better.
13:24 Ventless???? No...
I wonder how many people today could drive a car without "power steering"😏
And without power brakes! 😊
In the 1970s we called manual steering "Armstrong Power Steering"! 😅
My first car had no assisted steering, it's been a 1969 VW Beetle, and it's been real hard to drive. Got a 1977 Ford Escort soon after, much better :)
I am 72 the records were not special they were regular 45's every record player in the country played them there was a special adapter to play them they were sold when someone had a hit song and you just wanted the one song the other side had some off the wall single the artist had out all ready i had a 62 Impala with one of those players in it and it played all my 45's.
There were also 16 rpm records for car players so they would play near lp length records on the 45 rpm size records.
Yes, some pathetically bad 'research' in this video.
was that jim Morrison?
Before car CD or cassette player were invented
Go play on the freeway, if you need a movement take some Miralax.
Not jus incorrect buy it contradicts itself.
Ash tray and cigarette lighter and now called a accessory out let are now gone
Push button transmissions still exist
Came here looking for the HOT BLONDE on the thumbnail = Thumbs Down for clickbait!!!!!!!
It WAS interesting until you mentioned Dog Poo Tesla
In some places kids would steal the hood ornaments to use as necklaces.
My 2021 Honda Passport has push buttons transmission.
Most of these things were gimmicky just like most modern car features.the push button cars were a safety Hazzard with children
SO SAD !😪😪😪😪
What does "Arkansas" have to do with electronic technology? This has far too many mistakes.
Who writes this ? Certainly not a mind that has a trace of knowledge of the subject. Repetitive, contradictory and often plainly wrong...
Nobody wants a record player their car today. And they didn't work well when they were available. They skipped when car went over bumps, every few minutes another record would have to found and loaded into player when song ended. Talk about driver distraction.
How many mistakes are you going to make in this video? Swivel seats were called fat man's seats. Don't you know any old people?
specially made mini records... Nope not watching this. Lost both cases resulting in the banning of tail fins. Makes no sense. Definitely not watching anymore of this video.
what a disjointed video. repetition and comments not related to the video. can't watch to the end
I would be the first to complain, but I don’t see anything wrong with it.
I guess the Woke movement existed since the 1950's parents protesting on car manufacturers over fins lol
That really doesn’t fit.
Woke is about racism and social injustice.
Tail fins don’t fall into either.
Motorola used to make record players for cars that's why their name is Motorola
Why can't these idiots line up the picture with what their saying? Sad.
