Your idea is witty indeed. Unfortunately the historical emitters posses higher purchasing power in the present. Developing countries cannot compete that.
Govt. should increase taxes on German car brands and luxury car brands of Europe if they make cars in Europe and not in India. India shouls say we want to manage carbon footprint so make it here to check and balance. Govt should stock up more grains and slow down exports to increase prices and then sell at higher prices. If they are violating WTO rules then we are also free to do so.
No big deal to German luxury cars in India which were being sold 20000 cars/yr whereas 2 M unit/yr sold in China.
It should be done urgently.

They are doing it to Australia as well. Australian farmers are not subsidised, yet our government keeps to this policy, and all the while costs keep increasing and workers keep getting wage rises. The reason for this is a long held belief by a lot of politicians that farmers are backward, rich and lazy. Most of our politicians have never had a job or worked for themselves outside politics or unions and are spoon fed babies only looking out for themselves.
The whole climate change science is quackery. Banks and well connected entities are making a fortune off moving paper and robbing people of their money under the guise of saving the planet.
Australia is just a sick puppet of the US And the West. It is happy to even blindly join them in any military wars and propaganda.
America and EU exports more to India than Indian exports to them. Trade deficient of 46 billion approx. Imagin who will be at lost if India also come up with some fancy tax. We will handle it accordingly.

Thank you for your excellent reporting. As someone living in the global north I value listening to even handed news coverage in the south. I think you are right about the food stocks but wrong about the steel tariffs. The EU wants to produce the steel over time using green hydrogen which will increase the production costs. They don’t want their steel industry gutted by comparatively cheaper imports.
*India simply needs to negotiate more time* - e.g. the per-capita GDP of India is expected to grow at 8% so in 10 years west can come back to the table and then India should re-consider their proposal, which doesn't make any sense today. Indian citizens need Govt help for another decade and would likely not need any help later anymore right after the necessary economic uplift that's happening over this upcoming decade.

The EU has only one purpose - keep Europe's loot in Europe. But, in this particular case, carbon tax on countries where the environmental norms are lax should be a win-win for the whole world. India has to innovate and create processes that produce less carbon dioxide. Electric arc furnaces that draw entirely from a solar grid would be a good start. If EU still imposes tariffs, it would be time to return the favour vigorously. Right now we do not have a leg to stand on.

How do you know indian companies are polluting more thsn EU companies. EU has asked indian government for the process indian companies follow for steel manufacturing to calculate pollution emissions.

Fully agree with you on India's stand on Food subsidy but as a Indian working In Europe's green sector, I feel it is important to have carbon tax to develop Green eco system in Europe (and also India). This is to avoid cheap fossil based steel being the preferred steel compared to Green Steel (from anywhere) which will be costly.

I have said food prices will go sky high in EU extra but very foolish from EU to tackle on China and India special since recejtion arrived from S.America regarding food.
I always liked Palkis reporting as she gives information and doesn't push an opinion. But not this specific one. How is this different from India ? India charges almost 100% import tax on any foreign made cars.... Like you said, all countries keep their national interest. Just because it's coming at our disadvantage, how is it unfair or different from what India does.

The govt buying crops and selling at lower costs to poor households is going to distort prices in the Indian market for consumers to an extent maybe. Families that are mid-income and above won’t get these subsidised prices in the market. Infact their prices maybe inflated because of less supply owing to high volume govt purchases. This is likely the price at which businesses and producers export to western countries and still the prices are lower or competitive compared to domestic options in the West. Is the West complaining that they can’t afford Indian food imports because the govt is inflating the price ? Seems a bit ludicrous given that our prices are in rupees while they pay for the same way more in dollars locally.

Clause: If any Western Nation tells India that FOOD SECURITY is waste, India have right to do pooja of that Western nation with its SLIPPERS. This rule is best. o.o worked at my home.
