    When my African Gray parrot starts screaming her head off and my ears feel like they're about to bleed, I put this on and she joins in making sounds that AREN'T obnoxious. Modern solution to a modern problem.

      The reason we got an African Gray is because they don’t scream. Layla has never screamed in the 22 years we’ve had him. He never learned screams from our cockatoo either, thank goodness

    I would know that this is recorded in Australia. I can tell only by the Spotted catbirds and the Wompoo fruit dove. I only recognize those two, the other birds I’ll have to study and listen later.

    I know what the caged bird feels, alas!
    When the sun is bright on the upland slopes;
    When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass,
    And the river flows like a stream of glass;
    When the first bird sings and the first bud opes,
    And the faint perfume from its chalice steals-
    I know what the caged bird feels!
    I know why the caged bird beats its wing
    Till its blood is red on the cruel bars;
    For he must fly back to his perch and cling
    When he fain would be on the bough a-swing;
    And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars
    And they pulse again with a keener sting-
    I know why he beats his wing!
    I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
    When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,-
    When he beats his bars and he would be free;
    It is not a carol of joy or glee,
    But a prayer that he sends from his heart’s deep core,
    But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings-
    I know why the caged bird sings! SYMPATHY BY PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR 1872 - 1906 ~~~~Saturday, January 6, 2017~~~~USA~~~

      Paul Laurence Dunbar, African-American poet, wrote this in 1899.
      I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is referenced in the the name of a 1969 autobiography by Maya Angelou, African-American civil rights activist, storyteller, poet, playwright. She wrote a poem Caged Bird in 1983:
      A free bird leaps
      on the back of the wind
      and floats downstream
      till the current ends
      and dips his wing
      in the orange sun rays
      and dares to claim the sky.
      But a bird that stalks
      down his narrow cage
      can seldom see through
      his bars of rage
      his wings are clipped and
      his feet are tied
      so he opens his throat to sing.
      The caged bird sings
      with a fearful trill
      of things unknown
      but longed for still
      and his tune is heard
      on the distant hill
      for the caged bird
      sings of freedom.
      The free bird thinks of another breeze
      and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
      and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
      and he names the sky his own.
      But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
      his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
      his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
      so he opens his throat to sing.
      The caged bird sings
      with a fearful trill
      of things unknown
      but longed for still
      and his tune is heard
      on the distant hill
      for the caged bird
      sings of freedom.
      The US, and the West, have still not adequately come to terms with its brutal, imperialist, enslaving past. People today carry the legacy of that in their relative positions in society and lived experiences and standpoints. The rainforest where this was recorded was cleared by invading Europeans of its people the Kuku Yalanji bama who had lived there for tens of thousands of years. Many, as in the rest of Australia, were killed or forcibly pressed into work. Last year the rainforest was handed back to its custodians, may the slow process of justice and reconciliation continue for first nations and displaced peoples across the world. Racism aint just redneck name calling.
      The sounds in this recording remind us of what matters and what is true. Peace.

    +RelaxationandMeditation I'm *Frustrated* I can't get this to start playing on my phone. Had the headphones plugged in to the phone ready for this video to help me sleep and it would seem to endlessly be buffering. *I'm in Australia* and it's summer here {in Australia} and *Boy is it hot at night*.

      +Tim Bloch If you're talking about the sounds, it's in Australia - I recognise a lot of the birds. Also, that fern on the tree on the right looks like an Australian species, but there are virtually identical ones through southeast Asia and even into Africa, I think.
