I really hope the series doesn't go with time travel. Time travel _almost always_ ruins anything it touches.
i think time travel could be done very well if handled correctly, but i do agree that it wouldnt be good for made in abyss and just wouldnt fit with the story. i do highly doubt tsuk goes that route
Times already kinda messed up in made in abyss
They already have. It's been stated that time moves faster the farther down you are in the abyss. The characters up top are most likely much older at this point.
It only makes sense that the farther down you go eventually you'd reach a state where time is moving backwards. Would create for some horrific concepts.
Time travel has gotten a bad rap in media because of its overuse as a Macguffin problem solver (like in Endgame). It also creates a narritive dynamic where nothing holds weight and there's no risk because you can just go back and fix everything.
MiA is less of Time Travel and more of time being manipulated around them, kind of like in Interstellar where it's revealed that one hour on the planet was the equivalent of a year on earth.
Time manipulation becomes terrifying when you have no control over it.
@@yderga8707 100% agree with the negative time concept. Time probably will start flowing backwards after they reach the bottom of the abyss, and Reg will ascend again to go and find Riko at the top just as he did at the start of the story, reseting the cycle. Which explains why his name was always Reg too
The closest to "time" hi jinks I could think of for this series would be that we'd probly eventually see the other kids from orth in the series, It would take about 1 year in 6th layer time for at least 1 of them to hit white whistle status and the rest to be blacks, I wonder how they would react if they head to the abyss and see riko still as a child 🤔
I've always held this theory that the civilization which pre-dated the modern Era in the MIA was incredibly advanced in not just technology but the use of etheric forces as well. They managed to create technology which was on par, if not surpassing, the fabled civilization of Atlantis. However, their rise to power through their etheric technology would also be their downfall when they created a device which could change reality on a fundamental level.
The device performed far beyond the expected capacity of its intended functions and quickly melted down in a Chernobyl-like event which changed the the world reality on a miniscule scale while drastically changing it near the epicenter. This reality changing event resulted in the Abyss and the artifact which would become The Heart of Darkness. Riko's mother will be forced to sacrifice the most valuable and beloved thing to her in order to shut down this techni-spiritual machine...which is Riko.
It's a long shot but this is my theory.

We have just reached the 7th layer!
when reading the manga and the 2000 year cycle, to me it seems like something to do with the layers of the abyss.
How come so many of the layers hold remnants of ancient civilizations? I think maybe the end of the 2000 year cycle is what creates a new layer in the abyss, sinking whatever has been built around the hole, making it ever deeper. Also perhaps the time dilation in the abyss could be a reason for why the cycle takes so long, who knows
What if takes 2000 years for a special sacrifice to reach the bottom of the abyss and eliminate the shrine maiden ending her suffering and take her place as overseer of the abyss. But it can't be just anyone. It has to be someone truly special, someone that isn't died nor alive, someone like riko.
can you elaborate a bit? that would be cool but the way we see bon, wazukyan, and srajo talking about it implies that its a reoccurring phenomenon not influenced by people, but by the abyss
@@CompadeGD I noticed as we get deeper into abyss the more the inhabitants of the abyss become more aggressive with relics that is meant solely for combat for example reg's incinerator that has the ability to destroy anything down to it's very soul(life essence). At first I thought these relics was to combat the creatures of the abyss. I always thought why would need weapons of that power for creatures? And why every relic is weapon except for imrumyuii body morphing relic is specifically made for human to human combat, not human to creature combat. Even whitle whistles are due to chapter 64 commonly used to power up weapons and with the most recent chapter 64 they are even used in living people as well in order to give them a power up.
And with each layer the we the audience descend to the inhabitants of those layers making reference to the children tale. And as we can see the child's tale is real and based on the layers of the abyss and how they react to the shire maiden of that story with true disgust and anger as if she was some villain. I believe that who ever this shrine maiden is could possibly be the soul of the first person that was sacrificed to the abyss. And some how either due to slowing down of time or the curse itself turned her into some abomination something that not dead nor alive, both with a soul and with a soul, organic and machine. and now she is probably the reason behind the curse itself.
And what if reg true mission was to climb the abyss find that special someone to bring down to the abyss to confront their destiny. To confront and become the next shrine maiden.
I find interesting that each of the white whistles arent trying to kill the team but to make them physically stronger probably strong enough to defeat the current shrine maiden.
Imagine the group reaches the bottom and meet Liza, only for her to tell them the only way to go back up is to have the compass...
i think Lyza will be the true villain here, rather than Reg, who was probably just sent by Lyza to get Riko. Maybe he even don't know, for what purpose Lyza want to get Riko at the bottom...

Well chapter 64 didn't help anything with the lore, just more Srajo character background and way more questions than answers.
Also a friend of mine have this theory that I haven't seen anywhere.
Every 2k years cycle everyone on the surface dies and get swallowed by the abyss, and creates a new layer, that's why there's a lot of corpses found everywhere on higher layers, also that make sense how a ship can be on the 3rd layer thousands of meters below the sea level.
Also it seems everybody forgets that Bondrew somehow has a magical elevator from the 5th layer to the surface, that honestly it's a huge engineering project to get past thousands of meters to get a shaft for it, it seems there's obviously more ways to get from the 5th to 6th layer other than ido front, there is a lot of characters there that obviously haven't a white whistle to use the sphere thing or a white whistle isn't the only thing that can activate the sphere because we don't see any of the wazukyan members having a white whistle and somehow they're down there, and they used the sphere thing.
I thought the same thing ab Ganja Gang, but they do show in one of the episodes after that there was a Hollow in the elevator with a white whistle. So either a previous person that happened to create a whistle out of life reverberating stone, or something weird is going on in the Abyss hm

My theory is that reg met bondrewd and potentially ozen on his ascent. I am not sure if it's going to be important to the story later, but everything I have noticed so far suggests this to be the case. I believe the story gives us enough details to infer that it is possible yet also pulls a metaphorical cloak to distract you from what is giving you so far. I'll only cover bondrewd for now.
The very important question we have to ask ourselves right now is. How did reg ascended to the 5th layer? Well, so far we don't know because the story is not telling us how. But we only know of one way of descending into the sixth, and that is the Lift. Now, if anybody can swim up the sea of corpses all the way up to the 5th it probably would be reg, but we can't even infer how dangerous that would be even for him or even possible to begin with. And we also know that you need a white whistle to operate the lift. Which is weird because if that's true. We don't know if reg ever owned a white whistle of his own. Which means he shoudent have been able to operate that lift in the first place.
So it seems like the only potential way for him to go up is off limits to reg, and that should had made him find another way up. Until in season 2 WE GET TO SEE BONDREWD IN THE SIXTH LAYER!!!. the only other entity in made in abyss we can infer has made it from the sixth to the fifth layer also happens to have a white whistle, and should have full access to that lift. I believe bondrewd took reg into the fifth layer with him when he ascended back from the sixth. And we will get to see the answer to this later when more chapter come out.
Maybe Reg used the same method Tempeste and Cravali used
I apologize. I haven't gotten that far into the manga yet and was not aware others have ascended. When I get to read the whole thing I shall revise my theories about the subject.

To build on your last theory, what if the compass acts like a forcefield map, always pointing to the direction it’s pushing you, they could be pockets where it’s weak enough for the compass to point up allowing you to ascend
