Thank you for this! I Just started at 43. 🙋🏻‍♀️ A year and a half later I’m a burlesque dancer performing shows regularly. That wasn’t my goal when I started. All I wanted was to move my body and explore something I was curious about. Dance has given me a whole new life. It really is true- dance is for everyone. You just have to accept you’re going to be uncomfortable learning a new skill. But if you persist, tap into your courage and keep showing up, I promise you it’s all worth it.☺️❤️

I started dance when I was 14 and at first, it was just for fun and I just went to my class once a week. But then I realized how much I LOVE dancing. So after a year of just doing jazz once a week, I decided to take more classes. Started by adding ballet, and then the jr company of the place I dance at. (in that class we do a mix of contemporary, modern, and lyrical)
As I started taking more classes, I began to feel more insecure. Because not only was I at least 3 years older than most of the girls, I am also tall. So it just felt a little weird, and I'm trying to accept my height now, and the age that I started. I still sometimes wish that my mom would've put me in dance when I was younger, but then I wonder if I would've stayed dancing? And I feel that since I started later I've been able to catch on quicker and move up levels faster. Now I am 16 and I was nominated captain of my jr company, plus had my very first solo in November. (It was really scary but I think I did well)
I'm not sure if I want to be a professional yet, but I do want a dance career. Since I'm homeschooled, I've had more time to stretch and work on turns and stuff at home more. But I'm wondering if I should be taking more classes? I was thinking of adding one more but they are also kind of expressive and I'm not sure if my parents would let me or not.
Do you think I should take more classes and do you think I have a future in dance? (Also I love your channel :))

I'll be 35 next month and I decided last week that I want to learn jazz and ballet. I don't move nearly enough, I'd love to have that amount of control and it just looks so satisfying. I also have a degree in animation, and it's interesting to put the body mechanics I understand intellectually to actual work. I've never done anything like this before and I just fell right into it. It's a blast.

My energy and body took a hit and my soul has been feeling a bit empty. I've been CRAVING dance in my life again but wasn't sure how a larger, older lady would fit into dance classes again. UnoCloutgurl omg you should!! ballet is my favorite thing in the world, idk what i would do without it. i’m 16 and i started when i was 5 but since i move a lot i’ve been doing it super on and off, like 1 in every 3 years. this year i started at a new studio after 2 years of not dancing and i got put in a class with younger girls but i worked really hard this semester and i’m already getting promoted. and if you stick with it, you could probably be on pointe within 3 or 4 years, so that’s before you graduate probably. i’m never gonna get to do pointe but i have to accept that and try to be the best i can be on flat. if your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough, and it seems like they’re scaring you so chase them!!!!

Literally me. I just turned 14 and I’ve been begging my dad to sign me up for dance classes. I’ve been teaching myself how to dance since I was 6 and now that I’m older I feel like I’m gonna be put in classes with 5 year olds. My dad knows how long I’ve been wanting this because I’ve literally made my contracts with his and my signatures when I was younger. I asked him about it again and he said which studio I wanted to join. I’m really excited but I don’t think he’s gonna sign me up soon. Maybe next year. Which I’m glad about because I’m starting to get insecure about my face. I could never go anywhere without masks. 🤥

im 14 and i was never really introduced to dance as a kid. my parents sent me to classes with my brothers like karate as dance was ‘for the professionals’. i wish my parents had asked me if id wanted to do dance now as i really want to become a profesional. im also a pole dancer and have been doing that for over a year now. that is really the only history of dance i have (as well as aerial arts). im also a very insecure person as i got a lot of hate from people at school. sadly all the dance schools around me already have people who dislike me at them, and trust me i would mentally not be able to go there after all ive gone through with them. last night, my mother agreed to let me start contemporary and im really excited, but now its just finding a place. :)

I took dance as a kid, loved it, but couldn't continue (scheduling around my parents' jobs, and availability of studios in my area). When I tried to dance again in college, it was kind of discouraging because everyone else had been doing it for ages, and the teacher didn't really give me much attention because I wasn't majoring in dance. I recently found a studio in my area and their motto is "Dance is for everyone," so I signed up for a jazz and a tap class to check it out. I just want to dance again. Really enjoying your channel. :)

I would absolutely love to start going to a studio and dancing regularly, but I constantly worry about not being good enough and everyone else being sooo much better than me. Ok I need to vent idk who is gonna see this but whatever.
I started dance at 4 and stopped at 8, but wasn’t ever competitive. But at the same time I was a competitive martial artist for 9 years I started at 3 and stopped at 12 to switch back to dance. But the problem was I joined drill team and drill teams aren’t the best for small details and technique. And will drill team, I haven’t had time to go back to studio so I kinda had to figure things out on my own. But since I have dance experience and martial arts I got good pretty fast. And I know I have so much more inside of me but I don’t know how to fix my mistakes because I don’t have anyone to help me. Drill team just isn’t the same as studio dance. So now I’m a freshman in my second year of doing drill team and I don’t know if I want to do it again cause it’s not helping me get better. Like I’m getting better but not technical wise. I feel like out of school, studio, competitive dance will really help me unlock my full potential. Cause I have an insane over split, a straight leg scorpion (needle) ,I have a really good point, I am really strong and I have my front and side aerial. I can do everything in my sleep. But my turns… my releve is too low, my hip is turned in, not using my core enough, my back is probably arching, it’s just so much wrong. It’s the little things. But all I can do is record myself and notice it, but not know how to fix it. So I’ve literally been teaching myself. And if my drill team requires out of school dance hours, I would go to studio multiple times a week but obviously not signed up and stuff because it’s for drill team, and I was always told I was really good. I know I could by AMAZING if I started competing in dance. Not drill team competitions, REAL competitions. And I remember at one studio (for dance hours) I got told that I was really good but I still got those corrections and they helped me so much. But it’s been a while so I can’t execute it the correct way anymore. I just wish it was possible for me to do drill team and competitive dance at the same time. If u want to get any better in dance, I have to not try out for drill team next year , and switch to studio. And all I want is to get better because it hurts me so much that I stopped dancing, never competed (until drill team) and didn’t realize how passionate I am about it until just a couple years ago. And I have it NATURALLY I just need proper lessons. Like i already point my toes in everything I do, it’s just small things. And I want to switch to competitive dance but I will have only like 3 years.. I’m already 14. And comp season has already started so I have to wait obviously. So I would only have just a few years competing then it’s all over. And we do compete on drill team but only twice. I’m also doing a solo at competition so I don’t want to look awful on stage. But I also feel like I’m comparing myself to others too much. I don’t know I’m a wreck right now. Ok I definitely don’t want to waste my time but at the same time being involved with the school is fun. I have to make up my mind fast. Right now I am leaning towards stopping drill team and switching to competitive dance. Someone help me I need advice.

I guess I feel insecure because I am quite flexible I have the rhythm, but I have such an issue with my hips. They are really tight and I have a lot of insecurity. But I also need to be ready to be super consistent and really research more in my stretches.

Hey auti❤️ so i really want to start dancing but I'm Muslim and I don't think i can dance since i can't wear tight clothes and i can't dance with boys... But i really want to start dancing but I'm scared that people would judge me or my parents would not let me because of my religion
Also my country doesn't have alot of dance studios and it's literally almost impossible to find a studio and they're really expensive and I don't even think my parents would afford to buy me dance equipment and dance wear, i don't even think they'll support me 😭❤️
What's your advice? Please answer i really need your help 💓💖☺️

trick or treat freak If you want to dance, you gotta just go for it no matter what anyone thinks.
You don’t have to wear tight clothes to dance, or dance with boys. I would just try learning whatever you can on your own, there’s lots of videos & stuff online that teach dance moves etc. Just start with what you’ve got -you, you’re two feet, & the Internet. 😆
Where there’s a will there’s a way. You might just need to be more creative in how to go about it to it possible. But it’s possible, anything is if it’s really what you love & want. 💜 Don’t give up on your dreams no matter what anyone says or thinks!

Is it possible to become a professional dancer if you started ballet at 16?

    • @sunbright1537
      @sunbright1537 5 лет назад +8

I think it is possible if you push yourself , work harder than the others and spend more time to train than the others. Belive in yourself and you will get it.

Ellie Smith maybe too late to get a job as a ballet dancer in a ballet company but defiantly not too late to go professional in any other genre. That’s not to say don’t bother with ballet, defiantly do as it will help your understanding and quality of movement overall.

I like doing jazz and contemporary workshops for fun, but I really would like to get into doing hip hop! Does anyone know of any good RUclips channels or resources to learning the basics of hip hop? I feel like I'm so stiff, so just slowly memorizing choreo isn't getting me anywhere lol
