Of course if you turn on the PRE on TS-2000 the s-meter of TS-2000 will change the signal but also there are things to do inside the TS-2000, I mean, if you want more Dbs on s-meter you can make a fine adjustment inside but each radio has their own type of RX. Like some guy said, doesn´t matter de signal. You must have a clear audio as possible. Adjustments outside are also important like filters and others... I like both radios. The TS-2000 is a complete radio. Nothing to talk about this radio. It is a super radio. TS-590 also. Best 73´s de PY2KJ.
Even just listening off my phone you can tell the 590SG is better. I've owned the 2000 and found it to be a great rig... I've heard great things of the 590 SG and this fortifies what I've already heard.

You just proved that both radios can hear a loud signal. S meters don't mean anything in this test. They are not calibrated the same.

The TS-2000 has more weak sensitivity without PRE amp than 590. If you make the comparison with turn on pre on both rig. You will see no difference.
Both of these are better than my TenTec Omni D.
Turn on TS-2000 preamp, then run your test.....
Would have liked to see the difference in noise reduction.
