    I remember meeting you, Kale and Kevin at that festival. I came very close to buying one from him but my darling wife convinced me I would be missing out on the enjoyment of building one. Almost two years later I built one and love it. At least I got to see and play one of Kevins for inspiration. Hope to see you and the same people this November at the festival. Thanks for this video and I hope it inspires others to buy or make one.

    I remember talking to Kevin at that festival. He's a really nice guy. I'm sure you remember the diddley bow class he did for the kids. If I'm not mistaken, he made Justin Johnson's first shovel guitar but now they're made by someone else. So cool! This was a fun video.

    Good looking shovel guitar 👍 I can dig it. Justin's ( crankin up the 3 string shovel guitar) video is what got me started making instruments

      I now look at all my yard tools as potential builds. I have already used an old broom handle and cigar box to build a diddley bow.

      @@alwayslearning8365 I suggest you make a nylon string cigar box diddley bow. Be sure to build it with parts that she can’t remove and swallow. Let me know how it works out!

    Can i ask some question what are the sizes of the string and what is the distance of the nut to the bridge?

    • @stevesstrings5243
      @stevesstrings5243  2 года назад +1

      I don't know. I was just borrowing the instrument. I suggest you ask Kevin Hamilton of Hambone Cigar Box Guitars. That said, If you are building your own, you can decide upon the scale length you want, then put the bridge and saddle where they need to be. String gauges are dependent upon what notes you want and the tension you want. Most folks use the ADG strings from a guitar set to get GDG tuning with a scale length somewhere near 25 inches.
