Dan, just watching this video which is very good, thx for sharing. I've updated my Garmin SW a few times but haven't updated the charts so this was very helpful. I'm sure a lot has changed in 3 years but will continue to try to catch up. I only use my Garmin GPSMAP 8612 for Forward Facing Sonar but want to learn as much as I can about the Unit. I have 3 humminbird units I use for Waypoint management, charts, DI, SI and 360. Thx again for all the great videos you put out!
@@DanRichardFishing I got the UHD 93SV. Glad it came with the Xducer too!! Originally i was looking at the striker model... but i couldn't find it. I use it for fresh water... big difference between the PLUS and the UHD?
21:22 Wow, this is a PITA. I got a UHD73SV and North East Navionics card. It says to install the card, transfer the data, then install a formatted Active Captain card.
Dan, First and formost, I enjoy watching your videos. That said, this video is VERY, VERY hard to follow....and I'm a tech savy person. I just purchased a GARMIN 93SV (Fresh Water Version) and they provided me the BlueChart G3 US All and Cananian West Coast micro chip to upgrade for Saltwater fishing. I honestly tried to follow your video my man....but got lost. Just providing you some honest, friendly construstive critisism. Happy Holidays and look forward to your future videos.
Hey there, thank you for the honest feedback, I appreciate it very much! So where exactly are you getting stuck? Remember on your model you can't "overwrite" the built-in maps, so you can't update it with the new maps you got, you can only insert that card in your unit as supplemental maps. Is that what was messing you up? This video was more focused on upgrading the built-in ones. Happy holidays to you too!
I just updated my UHD 73SV US Inland Maps G3, after I put in the SD card and checked the maps and version I had downloaded using Garmin Xpress, I just clicked the SD card to release it, pushed it back in and got the screen to"Do You Want to update the built in Inland maps?". Click yes, you get a do not interupt instruction, click ok and it updates the built in map from the SD card. It took about 45min. Remove the card, update is still there, Turn on the WIFI, connect your phone to the Garmin WIFI and open the Active Captain App it will automaticlly sync your account and any software updates you did will show the new version and you won't get a red dot to update. You won't need the SD card unless you want to record sonar, take screen shots, etc.
It looks like Garmin actually fixed the map upgrade issue that plagues the Plus and older units so that's good to see! When I try to upgrade my Plus, I get a "not enough room" type message so I can't update the built-n maps. They must have resolved this wit the UDH/Ultra units, which is great!
That was a great video that was very informative and put together well. I just bought a new Garmin and will be going through this. I’m wondering if there’s going to be a performance hit when I upgrade the map next year, and it starts running off an SD card instead of internal memory which is usually much faster. We’ll see. Thanks again for taking the time to do this.
I honestly did not notice a difference at all. It's already a big laggy when you move around the screen but I didn't notice it get any slower when I started using the upgraded map on the card. Thanks so much for the comment and tight lines!
Just want to say thank you for posting this video. I need to know the model number and manufacturer of your portable 12 volt battery. I've got an extra power cable but don't want to buy a regular 12 volt battery. Thanks again Dan.
Nice briefing. Helped. Just got the 94sv and having all sortsa issues with Active Captain connection that makes no sense to me. Sets itself up as its own network, so if you want your phone to connect to it, you have to drop your current internet connection in order to attach. Also, book suggests there's bluetooth connectivity for active updates but see no way to control that on the unit, nor do I see any sign of a BT signal coming from it. HELP! (and Garmin's closed around the holidays)
Hi William, you are exactly right. Most people think that the Echomap connects to your home wifi like a smartphone, a computer or a tablet but that's not how it works. The Echomap acts like a router and you have to connect your phone directly to that. If the Active Captain App on your phone detects an update is available, it will then run you through the steps to disconnect from the wifi of the Echomap, connect you back to your internet connection to download the update file and then reconnect to the Echomap wifi to install it. For Bluetooth, you cannot use Bluetooth to install an update via the Active Captain App as far as I know. The Bluetooth functionality allows you to enable smart notifications from your Echomap to your phone. You can find the instructions on how to enable smart notifications here: www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/echomapplus/EN-US/GUID-EBA0131E-EDCB-4ED2-9A96-B91739496BF8.html Hope that helps!
@@DanRichardFishing Thanks; will check it out. Sumbody oughter go bang on Garmin to make their stuff less opaque. And, while yer at it, snuff all the lawyers that pad every section with WARNING, WARNING CYA crapola.
Hey my friend I have echomap 73cv and I want to use in saltwater but doesn’t show anything just a tracking line,my question is can I use in saltwater ????
I wish i could get the plotter to connect to my home wifi - theres no options except to use cellular data. my wifi covers my property ugh OTHERWISE putting the SD card in a reader and using the Garmin Express worked great just like you showed. Thanks.
Hi Davey did you see my other video on how to do this via wi-fi? You can actually connect to your home Wi-Fi with your phone to download any maps or updates and then you connect to the chartplotter Wi-Fi to do the upgrade or installation so you don't actually use your data plan for downloading updates and maps ideally. But I do hear you that it would be cool if the unit just connected to your home Wi-Fi but it doesn't work that way, the chartplotter actually behaves like a router itself that you have to connect to. I would never recommend using active captain on your mobile phone to update maps, it is so slow it's insane!
Hi Dan, like your videos. They’re very well thought out and recorded. Just watched a map update video. How do you power up your Garmin when it’s out of your boat and on your office desk? Did you have to buy a new power cord for the Garmin?
Hi Dan Was hopping you can help..just bought the garmin echomap 93sv uhd from the US,(us maps) and I'm trying to install navionics + Canada. Can you please help? Great videos!
Hi Frank! It's pretty straightforward, was there a particular thing you were stuck on? You can use Garmin Express to purchase and download and create your own SD card or you can go right on the Garmin website and purchase a map card directly and then you get it in the mail a few days later and you just plug it into your unit. Let me know where exactly you're getting stuck and I can try to help as best I can!
Your content is good, your acoustics leaves a little bit to be desired as there is a bit of an echo chamber effect, like you are at a desk in your garage or something. But the info is excellent. Thanks for the info.
Hey Dan, Just ordered an UHD 75sv that is preloaded with Canada maps. Thinking of getting a Ultra102V that doesn't come with Canada maps. Can I share the Canadian map via networking?
Yes you sure can! That's exactly what I do except I don't use Network I just create two different cards because I cannot Network and map share on plus units. I am starting to upgrade my equipment though so I'll have more on that and I will be doing exactly what you're going to be doing via networking. The UHD and ultra units can Network and share maps now which the plus and older units couldn't.
Hi Dan, I’m a big fan of you and all of your videos, I have the Garmin 73sv echo map UHD, with the navionics inland lake maps (USA), what do map I need to buy for Texas coast? Thanks!!
Hey thank you so much for watching my content and for your question! For the Texas coast, you need to buy the Coastal Charts maps, which unfortunately are one of the more expensive ones. They don't have one for just Texas or the Gulf, the chart they have covers ALL coastal waters of the US and western Canada. You can find it at: www.garmin.com/en-CA/p/37703 Hope that helps!
Found it, it’s $219 us, should I get it on a sd card or download it to card? It’s really a disservice on Garmin not able to be compatible with navionics.. all of the other brands are!! Woow. Thanks for the quick response!! I’ll let you know how it worked for me
Hey thanks for the video, before i had a Echomap CV 45 I just upgraded for a Echomap CV75 plus and I don’t understand why the maps are not all included in. I have to download it with active captain and upload it every time I change lake. It’s pissing me off… before it was like build in and no upload needed… I just don’t understand why

Great video. I have some questions. I have a uhd 92sv with only a built in overview world map. I bought a map on dedicated sd card. Now the first question: when I want to update the maps I bought on the dedicated card, will i owerwrite the files on the card or will I create a new cards with a complete new updated map? Its not incremental update i guess? My other question is how will the same upgrade work if I do it with ActiveCaptain? I mean when using active captain I need a special active captain sd card and where are the maps stored then. I only have one sd card slot..
Hi Mattias, thank you for your questions! So you have discovered one of the limitations of the Echomaps (except the Ultra models) and that is the single card slot. If you purchased a map card, then you will need to have a separate card for AC for updating your unit or exporting/importing data etc. In terms of a map update, there is no update to the supplemental maps you buy. In order to "upgrade" you are basically buying a new card BUT I know that there are all new Navionics maps and a subscription service and I am not 100% sure how that works as I have none of those maps and I don't know how they work. I have all G3 maps and I bought the physical card from Garmin. Hope that helps explain it! If you have Navionics or are looking at buying Navionics and the subscription service, I recommend you give Garmin a call. Thanks!
Can I install my saltwater maps on a the echomap 93sv that was preloaded with lakes instead of saltwater. I bought the maps from garmin, set up my unit and thought I downloaded them on but I don't get anything for ocean. I'm trying to just do it from my phone and active captain app but I'm not sure if I can do that or I do I have to use the computer only. Let me know if you can I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
You can't install them to the unit, you have to create the map card and then leave the card in the unit and your maps will load. You can use the Active Captain app to download and install the new maps to your Active Captain card on the unit but I find it's super slow. Use Garmin Express on your computer, it's much faster in my experience. Hope that helps!
Hey Dan! I’m a little confused about the upgrade you mention at 2:41. I just got a new Echomap UHD 73 that came preloaded with LakeVu. Are you saying I’m entitled to a free upgrade to the Ultra maps? Or just updated lakevu which looks like I have most recent according to the version. Thanks Captain! You do a great job 👏🏻
Hi Jake, happy to help you out on this one! You are entitled to 1 free map update within a year of REGISTERING your unit with Garmin. The key here is it's when you register, not bought the unit. They typically have 1 update per year, so if you wait a couple of years before registering, then you will be able to get updated maps for that year you register. You don't need to register to download updates UNLESS you add it to the Active Captain app to do wireless updates. You will be entitled to an update to the current maps on the unit, it doesn't let you upgrade to a different type or level of mapping. Hope that helps and thanks for the question and props :)
I just bought a 73sv when they had a special in march. I registered the unit through Garmin Express. I used a formatted 16gb card and upgraded. When I tried to upgrade the maps, there was not enough space on the card. I bought a 32gb card and loaded the maps on it. It would not load because of being incompatible. I also have a 55cv. I am waiting on a response from Garmin to an email
I just bought the new Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94sv Fish Finder/Chartplotter Combo - Transducer, I also purchased the $199.00 lake map SD card, Is this card up gradable? I'm New to Garmin and I really enjoyed Your Video, Thanks
Hey I got a question just got 7sv uhd and got inland maps but I fish the SC coast wanna know if there's any way to get map just for that coast vs spending 150 and up on whole coast
I wish it was that simple but unfortunately no, you have to buy the card that covers the section you want. There used to be a way to import and merge maps from other providers but it can't be done anymore :(
HI Dan - great videos - Some models will let you update built in map as long as you have enough memory. I followed your instruction and did not get the memory message. I took the card out and still had the same info as with the card in.
Hi Jim, you're absolutely correct, it looks like at some point Garmin started increasing the onboard memory storage so that map upgrades can be saved right on the units, which is great!
Dan I just subscribed to your channel. I am a older fellow totally lost on using my Garmin EchoMAP 70dv. In 2015 I had a boat built and as part of the deal they installed a Garmin unit.on the invoice the description says (GT21 - TM, Xdcr, 8 pin,Trad/DownVu, 50/200/260). I don’t believe I every registered the unit and I believe I need a software update. I could reall use some help you are so knowledgeable please give me a hand if you could. I am 73 not the most computer savvy person out there. Thanks Lou
Hi Lou, welcome to the world of Garmin Echomaps and thank you so much for subscribing! It's really not very hard to update the unit, please check out this video and it shows you step by step how it's done: ruclips.net/video/akKA_UFjC6c/видео.html Let me know if you run in to any issues while following the video :)
I would absolutely feel WAY more secure in fog with a unit so at least I know where I am on the water, but you would still need to run a a low rate of speed to be safe.
You mention at 11:45 an update on how you set up the portable battery for working the unit at your desk, do you have a link? Just don't wont to blow it up!
Hi Mark, I actually show the setup for the first time in this video at the ruclips.net/video/akKA_UFjC6c/видео.html at around the 9 minute mark. Very simple setup really, all you need is a 12v battery (small one will do), alligator clips or terminal connectors, and the Echomap power cord. The power cord will come with the fuse already in it, so just strip the ends, attach the clips and connect the battery and you're good to go! Hope that helps and thanks for the question!
disappointing>> how often do they update the maps? Not often enough from what I see on my first day out. I purchased garmin g3 ultra lakevu west maps which retails for $200 >>>>On my local Texas man made reservoir lake , Lake Lewisville, the chart showed an area as 8 - 10 ft when the reality is that it is between 2 and 3 feet. Not just a small spot but likely the better part of an acre! I am glad the lake level was not any lower or I may have had a serious impact. Yes I did use the lake level feature and the lake today is down less than 2 feet but I entered 2 feet so it should have been a bit higher than the map indicated BUT 6 feet off??? Another issue is the high definition relief is almost featureless on a man made lake and when you zoom in it is actually pixelated with almost no real detail. It is better than the included g3 map but not by much. Very little detail on features an/or even possible hazards. Don't expect to see a pile of downed trees or any features around the size of even a very big tree. Basic features like drop offs and contours do display as long as you are zoomed pretty far out but with the scale at anything 100 ft map measure or less, I have not seen anything I can say would be helpful but maybe as I use it I will find some beneficial areas but today mid lake it was pretty useless and showed absolutely no structure. Even a huge small rise in 43 ft which goes to 16 ft in a sharp cone is barely even indicated. Basically if you are spending $200 for the upgrade you can expect dynamic lake levels and only slightly more detail. Once again finding an area where the map was dangerously off was shocking. I think I may post a video myself and show what you really are getting on a lake.
It seems that you upgraded your existing maps. My Exhomap 72sv is new. I just bought a new Navionics Vison+ 22:51 map. I downloaded it to the SD card with G Express. I took the card and inserted it in the unit. How do I know if it’s using the map that I bought instead of the built in? Or how do I force the use of the new map? I have a Global map built in and bought another one specific to one area. Tks//
When it first loads it should show you what map it's loading and you can also check the map version by going in the system information. I'll shoot a video of this on the weekend and I'll upload it so you can see :)
@@DanRichardFishing I guess my problem is that the chart is not showing on the screen after turning it on. The chart is in the card by the unit reads only the preloaded one. How do I make the unit to read the Vision+ map from the card that I have just downloaded it to?

Thanks for a great video. Question on maps for 93sv bundle with lvs32. Tried to download charts using Garmin Express. Download took a long time and ended in an error. Tried to install software update and got map not unlocked. Can I reformat the SD card, tag it to the unit, and then download the map update using Express tp where the map will run off of the card?
I downloaded a map update and put it onto the SD card via Garmin Express. It was an update for the Worldwide Relief map. I then copied it using the unit Echomap 62CV from SD card to unit. Got the message it had copied fine. Now each time I start my Echmap i get a warning the update is not compatible. How do i get rid of this annoying messge?

I've got a new 94sv UHD and I shelled out a lot of money to WM for the upgrade. Well I followed the screen prompts and I don't think it downloaded. This was a hard micro SD card and not an online install. Any suggestions?
Congrats on your new 94SV! Just so I understand, you are trying to upgrade your maps via Garmin Express with your own SD Card? Is there a point you get an error?
I have a garmin echomap plus 95sv ... i downloaded hawaii and pacific islands satellite map and the quality that shows in the gps is not high resolution...any ideas how to adjust the quality of the image??
The resolution of the screen and detail of the maps is pretty much set. Can you give me details on which maps you have exactly (version numbers and type) and maybe link me to a screenshot of what it looks like?
Unfortunately I don't have a UHD unit, I only have a Plus so I can't tell you first hand. The UHD version with a UHD transducer should provide much more detailed images via the GT52 UHD 3 in 1 transducer. Here's a screenshot that shows you the difference: reviewmarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Garmin-Ultra-High-Definition-ClearVu-Sonar.jpg
@@DanRichardFishing It definitely does. And the new vivid color palettes allow you to see incredible detail in side view. I just tried it out yesterday and was smiling the entire time I viewed it.
So I understand that if garmin sends me the data and I make my own card it has to be to only one unit. And if I buy the card with the data then I can’t copy the data. If I buy a card with the data on it, can it be used on multiple units if I just grab the card and put in another unit?
You got it! So if you download and make your own card, it will work on units you're registered to or in your network on Plus, UHD or Ultra units (they recently did a firmware update that allows map sharing) and you can make as many as you want. If you purchase the card they ship to you, it will work in any supported unit but you can't make copies of it.
Yes that's correct. You used to be able to use navionics but Garmin and navionics had a huge falling out several years ago and that was the end of that.
@@DanRichardFishing just weird cause I was under the impression navionics was owned by garmin so I figured there'd be some compatibility there. www.navionics.com/usa/blog/post/garmin-acquires-navionics
@@ncsuduckin oh that's right they did purchase them but I do remember that navionics had their own product many years ago that were compatible with Garmin and then something happened and they cut their support and then years later they actually acquired them. I think that navionics actually is who makes their G3 map products. So you have to use the G3 Lakevu Garmin specific products you can't just use any navionics maps. I used to have a very old Garmin unit a while ago and when you started up it would actually load navionics maps.

Do I need to copy them all on to one SD card and insert it in to the garmin unit? I’m not sure what the maps are? Thank you.
Holy jeez, you have a lot of maps available to you! If you're fishing the English Channel, then I'd go with that one. You can only run 1 map at a time so you wouldn't be able to run all 4 anyhow because each ma has the same filename.
I just bought the 63cv UHD unit, went through the process of registration and downloaded maps for my area on to my SD card. I have the card installed in my unit; however I can't seem to get the navigation chart to appear, only the "tracking" chart. Please advise...thanks.

Hi Warren, you'll want to grab the U.S., Mendocino, CA to Salina Cruz, MX Coastal Charts from Garmin, there are 2 versions - the Bluechart G3 Vision version or the Bluechart G3 version, which is half the price of the Vision model. You can purchase them and see a full comparison of the two and exactly what is mapped here: buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/33574/pn/010-D0554-00#additional Hope that helps!

Martin excellent question. I am not clear on how many cards ideally you want to have to do all the maps, upgrades, etc. that the Garmins offer. Anxious to see Dans answer!
I don't believe it formats but I could be wrong. I use the exact same card for all my updates, new maps etc... never had an issue with my data getting nuked.
I have the 93sv, and then purchased the blue chart for the west coast. When I have the memory card in, I see only the blue chart, if I take the card out. I get the original maps. I see a merge button, but it says nothing to merge.
Hi Ross, that's correct, you can only use one map at a time and the unit will use your GPS location to determine which map to display or if you have the same map but a newer version on the card, it will use that one. I actually called Garmin on Saturday to confirm this before I answered you to be sure. The merge function is not for the maps, it's for tracks and waypoint imports. Hope that helps!
@@DanRichardFishing Thanks Dan, I contacted them too. It's not a huge deal, but something I'll have to keep in mind while navigating to the sea from fresh water down here. Thanks! and keep up the good work.

Personally I'm doing both.... Panoptix + Mega 360 :) I'm not impressed with the Mega Live demos so far and Garmin's side imaging has improved HUGE. Every brand has it's quirks. Look at the Solix second gens... slower than molasses going uphill in January in a snow storm.
Dan, very good video thanks for posting this! Quick question, I thought Garmin offered free updates for the built-in map region only, in your video it seems you could have updated either USA or Canada, is that right? I'm in Canada and just bought a unit with a US built-in map... I was going to buy a LakeVu Canada SD but if there's a way to get the Canada map update for free, I'm going to hold on ordering the SD... any thoughts?
Hi Fred, let me clarify what happened... you are absolutely right that you get access to the free map update for 1 year once you activate your unit with Garmin for the built-in map. BUT because I ALSO have a 93SV (US Lakes) that I activated, it then gave me access to US Lakes and I can use them on either unit, or the Canada maps from the 95SV. So that's why I have both. If you ONLY have a unit with US maps, then unfortunately you would have to buy the Canada maps. Hope that helps clear it up!
@@fuvang7174 Hi there, you have a couple of choices... you can get the inland lakes at buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/667388 or you can get the US Coastal and Western Canada at buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/37703
Make sure you've formatted your card properly and that it's not bigger than 32GB. See my video on how to update your Garmin Echomap for details :) Thanks!
Unfortunately the Echomaps cannot save additional maps other than the built-in ones so any supplemental maps or upgrades have to be a on a card. You can connect via wifi and sync data and run updates on the Plus and UHD generations with ActiveCaptain mobile app, but I believe that's it.
@@DanRichardFishing So I finally hooked up my 63cv unit to a mobile battery and finally got Activecaptain setup. It is a nice app and allows me to grab new maps from MyCharts, Quickdraw and ActiveCaptain. It asked for an SD card and so I threw in a 32G card it formatted it and boom it updated the software on the unit the internal maps and downloaded the Quickdraw maps I asked for. It seems to update the ActiveCaptain data every 10 min or so with new info coming in. I am going to purchase the Bluemaps for the US and see how that goes but so far this is very nice and great on the go!
@@RedDragon72q awesome, glad it works so well!! Gotta love technology! This is a great reason for owners of the older Echomaps to upgrade to these newer generations!
@@DanRichardFishing It is working great and cannot wait to test it on the water. Note a missing feature is the ActiveCaptain mirroring. It seems to mirror the units display you need the GPSMaps units. I was really looking forward to that feature. Imagine one unit and mirroring it on a 10-inch cheapo tablet. Oh well, this will work for now.
That's a great question but unfortunately no you would need to upgrade the maps on both units. but the good news is if you have both of your units registered under your garment account and one of them qualifies for a new upgrade you can download that upgrade and use it on both units you just need to install it to two cards. Same thing if you purchase additional maps so I'm in Canada and let's say I buy the US lakes map I can create it on three cards and use it on all three of my units. Thanks for the question!
Is it still not appearing in your maps in Garmin Express? If not, give Garmin a call, their customer service folks are top notch and will get you sorted out.
Hi there, do you mean if you want to set it outside of your boat like in an office or something like that? If so, you need the 4 pin power connector like this: amzn.to/3brGHLf and a small 12v battery like this: amzn.to/3jOBhOZ Simply attach clips like this amzn.to/3GAXeur to the red and black wires of the power cable, and connect the battery and connect your unit to the 4 pin connector and you're all set! Hope that helps :)
Hi Mike, yes you can control and access your maps with active captain, but you can't merge them to a single card to use in the unit. The Echomap formats use a single file for the maps and it's always the same name so you can only use one at a time per unit. There is a special program that allows you to merge maps together in to a single file, but the issue is that if your map gets too big, it will slow down the unit severely. So things like scrolling, zooming in and out etc will be very choppy and a pain to use. You can't share maps from one unit to another if they are networked, but as long as you register your units as shown in the video, you can make copies of the maps on separate SD Cards and they will work on any of your registered units. Hope that helps!
Does anyone know a video of someone installing maps on a Garmin without an SD card slot? I have a STRIKER™ Vivid 7sv, downloaded the active captain app, bought the charts for all of North America, and am trying to see if they will show up on my actual Garmin rather than me having to use my phone. Anyone know how?
I know that you can connect your Striker to Active Captain for software updates, sharing waypoints and quickdraw maps but I do not believe you can upload new maps to it that's why you need the SD Card. I've had a Striker so I can't be 100%, next time I speak to Garmin CS I will ask them about it.
Incredible info. This stuff is very confusing without some guidance. Thanks. I purchased an Echomap 73sv and an Echomap UHD 94sv. Wasn't sure if that was a good move. If I make a copy of my sd card for Lakevü will that allow me to use my Bluechart and the LakeVü on my 94? I was just now able to update my 73 with LakeVü 2021 version without a charge.
Yes absolutely! When you unlock and add these devices to your Garmin online profile, you can then create map cards with any of the maps installed for any of the units in your account. So like I have a 93Sv with US maps and with that I can create a US card for my other 2 units that have Canadian maps built in :) Enjoy your units!!
Absolutely, you can buy them from the Garmin website or right through Active Captain directly. I actually talk about that in the second half of this video :)
Absolutely, you can by Lakevu G3 maps off Garmin in either direct download form or SD Card. You can order through Active Captain or their site. You can find a list of all the BlueChart and LakeVu maps available at www.garmin.com/en-US/MarineChart-MapPurchase/ and I like this link because it shows you all the different packs in one list: buy.garmin.com/en-CA/CA/maps/on-the-water-maps/c452-c455-p1.html
@@DanRichardFishing Good intel. Same question for a newly purchased Echomap Plus 44cv. I am blessed with being able to leave my dock turn south and saltwater fish (hence the 44cv)or turn north and freshwater fish. So, can I add the LakeVu maps for my neck of the woods to the 44cv?
Hope you guys like this new Garmin Echomap video! Anything else you would like me to cover?
Dan, I sent a message to your Facebook acc. about this.
yes i want you to cover this again with out all the small talk in 5 mins so im not frustrated
Thanks for taking the time and cutting through all of the Red tape to get the map updates much appreciated
Many many thanks, I had all sorts of problems understanding how this was supposed to work. Followed your video and bang! It all now works. Cheers mate
Amazing, glad it was helpful!

You are helpful real person and thanks for you , Regards from Bahrain in Arab Gulf
Just picked up the 93sv today fresh water lakes... cant wait to use it.
Nice, which version of the 93SV did you get? Plus or UHD?
@@DanRichardFishing I got the UHD 93SV. Glad it came with the Xducer too!! Originally i was looking at the striker model... but i couldn't find it. I use it for fresh water... big difference between the PLUS and the UHD?
I'll try this on my new unit this weekend.. thanks!
Very helpful !! Thanks so much ! I just got 2 new Garmin UHD 95 SV. Cheers !
Congrats on the awesome units and thanks for the comments on the video! Stay tuned, this week's video is how to do this wirelessly with your phone! :)
great job Dan, helped me understand a lot about my ecomaps units, keep up the great video's
Thank you so much Mick, I appreciate the feedback and glad the videos are helpful. I have more on the way soon!

Excellent clarity. Very helpful videos. I find the videos on GPS especially helpful.
Thank you so much! I'll have more Garmin content soon!
21:22 Wow, this is a PITA. I got a UHD73SV and North East Navionics card. It says to install the card, transfer the data, then install a formatted Active Captain card.
Thank you for explaining!
You're very welcome, thank you for the comment!
great video!! how did you power up Garmin chart plotter in your video? Since it was away from the boat. Thanks!!
What are the steps to formatting the sd card for the echo? Awesome video by the way. Helped out alot.
You're very welcome Mike!! I am using a simple 12v alarm battery from Amazon, it pretty much exactly this one: amzn.to/3GBVsd8
You can find the instructions on how to enable smart notifications here: www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/echomapplus/EN-US/GUID-EBA0131E-EDCB-4ED2-9A96-B91739496BF8.html
Hope that helps!
Hi Jonny, yes it definitely can be used in saltwater. Something is wrong with the transducer or it's not compatible.
Hi Dan do a review on your old 95SV please
Just have to wait for price as a Canuck. Have a EchoMap Plus CV
Hi Dan, like your videos. They’re very well thought out and recorded. Just watched a map update video. How do you power up your Garmin when it’s out of your boat and on your office desk? Did you have to buy a new power cord for the Garmin?
Hi Dan, I was looking at your video, I did not see a chart for Panama.
Hi there, you want to buy the Mexico, Caribbean to Brazil - Inland and Coastal Marine Charts at www.garmin.com/en-US/p/794842/pn/010-D1887-20
@@DanRichardFishing Good looking out Dan. Thanks
Hi Dan
Was hopping you can help..just bought the garmin echomap 93sv uhd from the US,(us maps) and I'm trying to install navionics + Canada.
Thank you. Great video.
Thanks so much, glad you liked it!
@@DanRichardFishing The Ultra has 2 networking ports which eliminates the use of a hub when I add panoptixs. 🎣🎣🎣
Hi Dan, I’m a big fan of you and all of your videos,
I have the Garmin 73sv echo map UHD, with the navionics inland lake maps (USA), what do map I need to buy for Texas coast?
You can find it at: www.garmin.com/en-CA/p/37703
Hope that helps!
Found it, it’s $219 us, should I get it on a sd card or download it to card? It’s really a disservice on Garmin not able to be compatible with navionics.. all of the other brands are!! Woow.
Thanks for the quick response!! I’ll let you know how it worked for me
What does this mean for screenshots and sonar recording? If you gotta have a map card in the only SD card slot, do we lose those recording options?
You make it more difficult then it is!
Not at all, Garmin Express is the easiest and quickest way to update your maps and works on all Echomap models.
Cool man! Dig the videos!
Thanks so much!!
What if you bought 2 units. One fishfinder for front of boat and 1 near steering wheel ?
Thank you Sir.
You are most welcome!
Hi Gilles, what maps were you trying to load?
Does these maps go onto the Active Captain card??

Yeah the maps don't upload, you need to keep the card in the unit. Thanks!

Wad up dude
Up here in the Puget sound we get gnarly thick fog . Reckon this unit would get me home safe ?
I’m talking can’t see past 20 maybe 30 feet

Dan, do you know if the SD Card used for updating the system can be used for the maps? Or do you suggest having a 2nd SD Card?

If i got free spots say from the fwc page can i put them on my 93 echomap?😊
Hi - thanks for video! Seeing as how you have a chirp and uhd version - is there a significant difference between them?
Is it better to just buy an 8 gig as your update card and then get a 32 gig card for your maps card? My 106sv Ultra has 2 card slots.
So am I right in thinking you can't purchase a navionics map or cmap card and use in the echomap units? Only maps useable have to come from garmin?

VEU001R English Channel 2021.50, HXEU001R English Channel 2021.50, Worldwide Marine Basemap 2020.0, QuickDraw Contours Starter Map 2021.0.
Hi Joe, just to confirm you purchased maps and installed them to the SD card with Garmin Express?
@@DanRichardFishing Actually I just registered my Garmin, then downloaded "free" maps
@@joemiller1740 OK so you activated your unit and got the free upgrade that you get for the first year of registration. You did this via Garmin Express?
@@DanRichardFishing Yes...upgraded my unit today from the SD card; still NO nav chart
Does it give you relief shading?
You only get relief shading if the map you are using supports it on the body of water you're on. It doesn't have it by default for all lakes.
I purchased the 93SV model. Didn’t know they had a 94. I need the California coast line saltwater map. Is there a way to get this without buying the whole country? I don’t fish lakes. Thanks
Hi Warren, you'll want to grab the U.S., Mendocino, CA to Salina Cruz, MX Coastal Charts from Garmin, there are 2 versions - the Bluechart G3 Vision version or the Bluechart G3 version, which is half the price of the Vision model. You can purchase them and see a full comparison of the two and exactly what is mapped here: buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/33574/pn/010-D0554-00#additional
Hope that helps!
@@DanRichardFishing Thanks for the reply Dan. My unit is supposed to be delivered today. I wonder if there is a way for me to sell the freshwater (since I haven’t used it) and put the $ towards the California saltwater map.
@@warren6172 You can't "export" the maps on your unit, they won't work on any other unit except that one unfortunately and you can't replace the maps that are currently on the unit with the new ones, you will need to leave your card in at all times. Congrats on the unit either way, you're going to love it!
When I go into settings and click on software updates I show none for the built-in maps. I put the SD card in and I get a message that says this update is not compatible with the built-in map. I am so confused what to do anymore. I did the software update from computer to SD card then put the card into the garmin did software update like 3 times now and I still get nothing. Can you help me out?
I just got my trophy yesterday and I'm banging my head against the wall trying to download the free map. 🙃
I hope this video helped!
@@DanRichardFishing it did thanks
Late to this discussion ... can you use same SD card that you used to update software?
Martin excellent question. I am not clear on how many cards ideally you want to have to do all the maps, upgrades, etc. that the Garmins offer. Anxious to see Dans answer!
@@robmoskal3612 Garmin website recommends separate card since express will format card before downloading chart. Now to get express to I’d my device.
Yes, absolutely! I use the same card for everything.
I don't believe it formats but I could be wrong. I use the exact same card for all my updates, new maps etc... never had an issue with my data getting nuked.
@@DanRichardFishing Thanks much.
@@rossvanpraag8113 Did they give you the same info? Thanks so much again for the kudos and I'll do my best to keep the videos cookin ;)
I used a promo for a map. Purchase went well and did it under my username. Well, downloaded garmin express and that map hasn't shown up. Got so frustrated I just purchased a physical card for them to send me. All I do is plug it in when I get it?
I try and doesn’t work at all put my micro sd card inside my garmin open it like you do and close everything and I check my micro sd card it’s empty why?
Hi Stephane, can you tell me what exactly you are trying to do? Are you trying to export your data like your waypoints?
So, you're saying I should sell the Garmin echomap that came with my boat and get a humminbird?
I have a echomap chirp 95sv (Canada). Are you able to give me a link to where I can purchase the US map region. Thanks
@@fuvang7174 Hi there, you have a couple of choices... you can get the inland lakes at buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/667388 or you can get the US Coastal and Western Canada at buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/37703
When I try to add my SD card with my device (echomap plus 93sv), nothing is found...
Make sure you've formatted your card properly and that it's not bigger than 32GB. See my video on how to update your Garmin Echomap for details :) Thanks!
@@DanRichardFishing That's what they told me today.
This is cool. I thought there was a way to buy maps on the go from the unit itself from Active Captain or is that a totally different beast...
If you upgrade maps on a card for one unit will it show up on the other u it’s if they are linked via NMEA 2000?
That's a great question but unfortunately no you would need to upgrade the maps on both units. but the good news is if you have both of your units registered under your garment account and one of them qualifies for a new upgrade you can download that upgrade and use it on both units you just need to install it to two cards. Same thing if you purchase additional maps so I'm in Canada and let's say I buy the US lakes map I can create it on three cards and use it on all three of my units. Thanks for the question!
Dan Richard Fishing helps a lot thanks! Just got 3 new units and have an older chirp linked together and bout to update them all
Can you put inland lake maps on a 94sv?
Absolutely!
I have purchased the map online but it's not showing on garmin express
Is it still not appearing in your maps in Garmin Express? If not, give Garmin a call, their customer service folks are top notch and will get you sorted out.
Hi Dan Richard.
Can You help me how I can open the ADM file from Garmin download thank you Dan Richard
How do you know what changes are when you buy a update for you map
My Nuvi launches up with "nuvi 7 series" as its only description (©2012) and cant find anything to describe it in better detail.
Using a 4G SDHD formatted as per FAT32 and left in formatted title of UNTITLED.
Tried with only Garmin folder then only Map and then Maps folder, as instruction on OpenChest website has mentioned.
Tried the same 1.6G file .img using the name gmapsup1 and gmapsupp, made no difference.
Inserted the card into GPS before boot, and also after already booted.
IT DOESNT WORK on this unit.
Basecamp can read the file however and displays it when selected.
MapInstaller and MapManager dont see the file and wont install it.
Ive already added some files in the past, forgot what off road forum GPS supporter website it was, it was in the .gmap format I believe.
I dont recall having to convert an .img to .gmap or anything. SO, sol so far.
where do I find the video that explains how to power up a Garmin 64cv?
Hi there, do you mean if you want to set it outside of your boat like in an office or something like that? If so, you need the 4 pin power connector like this: amzn.to/3brGHLf and a small 12v battery like this: amzn.to/3jOBhOZ
Simply attach clips like this amzn.to/3GAXeur to the red and black wires of the power cable, and connect the battery and connect your unit to the 4 pin connector and you're all set! Hope that helps :)
you can use a Garmin licensed map on ALL of your Garmin Devices
can you add charts to active captain to get more areas? and share charts with all the Garmin units you own?
How can you help me learn this unit
Keep watching my Garmin videos, I teach all kinds of tricks!
Can u get us maps with the sv94. If I have the Canadian lakes
Absolutely, you can buy them from the Garmin website or right through Active Captain directly. I actually talk about that in the second half of this video :)
I have bluechart on my echomap plus 74cv can I get Lakevu
@@guygowens4948 Absolutely! As long as you have an SD card slot on it you can run any Garmin supported map on the unit. :)
