  • See the flame inside a carbon arc lamphouse when we "strike an arc" in this 1930's model projector . Carbon arcs were the most powerful man-made source of light in the days before lasers and was the only way to get enough light to to show movies on a giant theatre screen. This episode focuses on a Standard Simplex projector with a Motiograph Mirrophonic soundhead and a Peerless Low Intensity model carbon arc lamphouse.

Waiting to see the platter videos! I worked on them as a projectionist at the Coyote and Vermillion theaters during my college years at USD. It was a lot of fun building the reels up and putting a whole movie together. Great videos! I grew up at the State and Roxy Theaters!

Thanks Scott! The video on platters and the old change-over system is coming in the next few weeks. Max is editing it and we have a couple of more shots we want to finish. I have great memories of watching movies at the Coyote and Vermillion when I was at USD. The Coyote was still the Co-ed back then. When they rebuilt it, they renamed it the Coyote.
