Hi, Luke and Kirby! I'm so happy you love the Dolphin House. My father, Pat Matlock, built that house in 1963 and '64. He got the beams in Eureka and in tearing down an old Mill. He hand carved all the beams and the original kitchen was amazing. All the kitchen cabinets had carvings of flowers on them. The spice cabinet is still there with the "Tree of Life" carved on it. My dad built this house because, when he was a little kid, he saw the movie "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and he always wanted to build a carved house like the one the seven Dwarfs lived in. There were a lot of adventures while he built it. We owned one of the houses in Indian Shoals, too. Thanks for doing the video! 🙏🌹❤️
Wow! We are so happy you left this comment! It is so interesting to hear the backstory to such a magical place. We absolutely loved it, it was clear a lot of imagination and love went into that house. We said it was the most peaceful place we had ever been. Looking out the picture window really felt like looking out of a fairy tale! We loved how a lot of Mendocino builders repurposed wood from the area. I believe we rememberThe tree of life carving! What a true craftsman! Thank you for sharing! We hope to return sometime in the future :) Luke and Kirby
Oh! I forgot to tell you that the kitchen originally had 150 year old Mexican Tile on the counters. The doctor that owns the house now, ripped it all out and put a modern kitchen in. It was a shame! I wish he would have given me the carved cabinet doors. Darn! Anyway, it is a truly amazing house and it made me feel good that you did that video! P.S.You are a very attractive couple!
